It may've been a battle so fierce the bookshelf-lined walls of MI6 HQ shaked and the green lamps on the desks trembled, but in the end it probably turned out pretty much the way we all expected: the classic M came out on top; the classic Q was a very close second. Yup, the late, great Bernard Lee (whose country of origin may be disputed, but the fact he grew up in England isn't, it seems) has claimed the gold and the equally late, great Desmond Llewelyn the silver. Oh, and as if it actually needs mentioning, not far behind with her points tally, the also sadly late and also great Lois Maxwell, the classic Moneypenny, has secured the bronze.
Elsewhere, controversial her interpretation of the British Secret Service chief certainly may be around these parts, but good old Judi Dench comes in in fourth place very comfortably, while her direct predecessor in the green leather-backed chair Robert Brown is fifth. Taking the sixth and seventh places respectively are Walter Gotell as the détente-favouring Soviet General Gogol and Geoffrey Keen's loveable grump Freddie Gray. And making up the top eight is the aptly named Samantha Bond, the Brosnan era Moneypenny, of course.

Yes, well, given that of the 14 entrants in this week's contest, 11 of 'em were English, the Anglo-Saxons unsurprisingly dominated proceedings - er, yet again. Yup, not just content with taking the gold, they filled out the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth finishing places too, which ensured they've racked up another 22 points on the Medal Table and, once again, have double the number of points of their nearest competitors, the US. Suddenly, the Three Lions are looking, well, unassailable again.
In other news, thanks to their silver medal, Wales have done more than solidified their current fourth place in the table; they've put real pressure on the third-placed French - only one point now separates the two. Canada's progress continues too; their bronze from this contest giving them a 10-point lead over joint sixth-placers Italy and Scotland, while just one point behind the latter two nations now is Germany, whose sixth-place finish this week sees them rise to joint eighth with Denmark.
Event 11 coming up soon, chaps...!

I've visited my top four on this list and share sentimental favour to them but they also looked stunning on screen. I recommend people visiting Karlovy Vary & Locket (Czech Republic) if you ever get the chance. Amazing looking towns and some of the cheapest beer prices you'll find in Europe! ;)

So, it's an Italian/ Casino Royale lock-out at the top of this event's results, folks, as the ridiculously unique and marvellous Venice and those jubilantly lovely Lakes Como and Garda take the gold and silver medals - indeed, this is Venice's second medal of the tournament (the only competitor to be able to boast such a feat, thus far), as it won a bronze in the '70s Locations event for its featuring in MR. It must truly be in blue-lagoon heaven right now.
Elsewhere, both London's Docklands and the once 'white elephant' that was the Wok, er, I mean Millennium Dome from TWINE, as well as the picturesque St. Petersburg from GE, prevent an Italian one-two-three, what with the Smoke taking the bronze and the Russkie city finishing fourth, ensuring that the rather rustically beautiful Siena as featured in QOS ends up fifth. And filling out the sixth, seventh and eighth places are the stark desert-landscape of Chile (doubling for Bolivia in QOS), the oh-so exclusive Monte Carlo from GE and the triple-pronged Czech effort that is Karlovy Vary, Locket and Prague as seen in CR - the last of which just, just managed to squeeze out TND's Hamburg (although goodness knows how the latter even threatened the top eight, but hey, that's just my opinion ;) ).

Oh yes, no prizes for guessing who cleaned up this week - yup, given the great affection in which many around these parts (quite rightly) hold both Venice and the Lakes Como and Garda, Italy saw an open goal and hit the back of the net. The Azurri's gold and silver thanks to those two locales, as well as Siena's fifth place, delivered a thumping 22 points for the table and saw it zoom up three places up to third. Mama mia, indeed!
Elsewhere, England - but of course - did well, picking up a further seven points to ensure it's now just one short of a cool 150 points-haul, while success for Russia, Monaco, Chile and the Czech Republic (a rather random clutch of countries, but hey, it's all good) sees them all make welcome debuts on the board.
Event 12 coming up soon, chaps...!
England always had an inevitable advantage going into this tournament, given its sheer number of entrants. But there's some heavyweight North American competitors yet to come - we're not even halfway through the thing yet... ;)
Even so, who better to win than England, Bond's home, the land he wakes up everyday to serve without compromise??
Yup, Italy's not done in this contest yet either (neither is France or Canada - all three still have major competitors yet to appear). Keep an eye on 'em, I'd say... ;)
