If 'James Bond' weren't his name...

Heard a story once that Fleming told somebody he used the names of guys in his school, just switched their names. Can't remember where I've read that.

I don't mean to be rude but some people should maybe consider living outside of the world of James Bond, I thought how have you lived like Bond today was bad enough but this takes the biscuit!

its just a bit of harmless fun for goodness sake! There are plenty of serious conversations on this site. All work and no play makes JAMES a dull boy!

Cool fun fact, this happened with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle too quite possibly. There was a boy in his class when he was a boy that had the surname Moriarty.

    Not possibly the schoolyard bully?

I'll try to look that one about Bond up, think it's one of two books I read not long ago.

If you don't like it, stay out. Think up a better one if you find yourself so superior.

I know some people on here are young and it's not about being superior, it's an idiotic question and I guess it deserves the silly answers it's getting I'm not attacking that I'm questioning it needs a thread in the first place.

You can defend peoples right to post threads they like but really someone should draw the line what's next

What do you think James Bond will have for breakfast in Skyfall?

What brand of toothpaste does Bond use?

Does Bond take 2 bottles into the shower.

What brand of toilet paper does Bond wipe his arse with?

I think these threads are fresh and interesting, unconventional if you will. And, to answer your question:

2 eggs, 7 slices of bacon, two pieces of toast

    Crest

    No

    Cottonelle

Are you comparing my thread to these questions? Great.

Those threads would really be fine, i should do them.

It's not my fault to have some more curiosities about 007's world for everyone here. All i'm trying to do is trying to get out of the boring and predictable threads. It's just really boring to ask always the same questions that the guys do around here, and my "job" is to try to get out of that boringness.
But if you don't like my threads, fine, just get out and do one better, as i actually see you can do one.

Pure gold. This one is pure gold. Along that same token could also come "Dirk E. Cox" (replace the 'k' with a 't').

On a more serious note, his name could have been [censored] Mc[censored again], and we would have accepted it simply because of the allure created by the films and novels.

I agree its a light hearted thread that people are obviously interested in. It does no harm...

Mind you, I believe there's been claims in the media its unique ingredient 'Menthol TNT' is a bit OTT...

    @Shardlake does have a point.

Threads like these can be allowed in sufficiently small doses because a little bit of fun cannot hurt. However, after a few pages they easily jump into SPAM mode, where mostly inexperienced members feel like they can start cute but meaningless conversation only for the sake of boosting up their post count. This is the point where my fellow mods and I are confronted with complaints of ridiculous or insulting comments and need to shut the thread down.

Also, it is desirable that when multiple of these 'what if' threads were to suddenly come into play, someone would have the courtesy of working from merely one existing 'what if' thread and edit the title each time a next question is brought up.

This is a Bond forum and yes, we can lighten up, but the funny ones we prefer to limit down to merely one thread per kind. There's nothing wrong with a 'what if' thread, for example, provided it doesn't explode into a wild array of similar threads.

Again, we do allow some fairly stimulating and less cerebral threads. Like you mention, they can be a warm change to the more informative threads we have floating around. That said, we care a great deal about some kind of controlled flow of threads. Most Bond fans happen to be around for the more serious discussions. We split them up into categories that allow for a quick survey of what has already been discussed before and we closely monitor that each new thread resides within the boundaries of one specific category, the one that's best suited for each thread. We also enjoy a good portion of the lightweight discussions where everyone can drop by and catch a good joke. The danger with such threads, however, is double: A) suddenly, many overenthusiastic members squeeze out a myriad similar threads that usually don't last for more than a page or two, and B) they become a SPAM feast for those members who only contribute by means of the annoying less-than-four-word posts, empty phrases such as "I agree" and funny pictures, usually intended to build an enormous post count very rapidly. We are quite experienced with these 'hypes' and frankly hold our James Bond forum in too high an esteem to allow for a sudden dump of SPAM-inducing, hardly relevant chatter.

Though there's nothing wrong with an occasional post like this, we nonetheless prefer to see those limited to a minor few. Members who produce such posts more than occasionally, will be contacted by a mod and asked to avoid them in the future.

Please, gentlemen, don't let me be misunderstood. I am by no means objecting against this thread. I've already read some funny entries and what puts a smile on my face cannot be all that bad. But please bare in mind that our forum primarily exists to talk about Bond on a more cerebral, informative manner. We're like an atypical school with mostly class rooms for intelligent, adult debate and a very - VERY - small playground. ;-)

Thank you for taking this into account.

I will avoid those quick/small posts, and try to make'm longer.
And i will continue to make stronger threads like the Skyfall one i have. All i wanted was to make a less-serious thread, but next time i'll think greater for a better one.
Also, just to make me clear, i'm not that guy that makes small posts to get a boots of poster counts, it's not my intention. i see none of you guys said that, but i just want to be prevented of that type of thinking. :)
Well, I came here to help with healthy discussions, that's what i'll continue to do. Thanks DarthDimi. :)
