In the novel by mr. Fleming 007 is trying to find out the evil plans of a Hugo Drax who turns out planning to shoot a nuclear rocket on London to take revenge from losing the war against the Vaterland.
MR the movie as written by Christopher Wood has a space station. ANd is very unlike the novel. That said the novelistation is the closest that anyone came to Flemings style and making it enjoyable.
Just remember, the same people that wrote DAD wrote CR as well.
I can appreciate why some may take issue with it, nevertheless I enjoyed it for the most part, it's arguably one of the best of the last twenty years
I wouldn't say that. TLD and LTK were great. Brosnan's films were mostly stupid, but they weren't unwatchable. Even DAD has it's moments.
So far, there really has only been one film that senselessly acknowledged itself as an "anniversary" film by throwing in a bunch of lame references to the previous films (sigh). No other Bond film has really referenced others in the preposterous ways DAD managed to. So is there really a 'curse' at play here? I'm not so sure. But as long as Mendes and the gang do not take the DAD route, at the very least Skyfall will be serviceable...more than I can say about Die Another Day as a whole.
You are right about that, the film's opening and everything up to Halle Berry's intro was actually pretty good. But the film mostly goes to hell once it hits Iceland.
I really hope it won't, because the original is better.
There was no 30th anniversary film, but there was a 25th anniversary one (TLD) that was pretty smashing, in my book. Surely 25 maps to 50 better than 40 does...
The Moonraker BOOK!
Goldeneye had a great storyline
TWINE had a good thriller- i mean the whole plot twist with Electra King (Alright Denise Richards as a Scientist requires a much suspend of disbelief) was a stroke a geneius- the first time in the bond series that there was a female villian (not henchwoman)
Tommorow Never Dies is a guilty pleasure but it isnt that bad....
Die Another day is the only victim of poor writing- Gene Therapy
but look at Qantum of Solace- the writing was abysmal- what was the villian after Oil? Nah scratch that they want to control the water supply so they get an extra couple of dollar bills on everyones water bill....FFS- worst thing was that because of the writers strike they had to scrap the original storyline which would have probarly be decent..i mean a hotel in the middle of the desert that with one spark can set it completely on fire...
QOS is right in my middle range as a solo film but couple it with CR (my #2) it shoots into my top #8.
"So you live to die another day....?"
"Yes, Mr Bond I do. And thank you for mentioning the title of this film."
"I mention all the Bond titles in my films. I'm under contract to do so. If I don't, Eon get cross."
:P
@identigraph too, the past references were not the major concern with that release, in hindsight they could of reduced significantly what they did, but most people take umbrage with the fact it was an overall disaster of a picture, said it before if they had cast other members, a different tune, cut out all that awful CGI trash and not insulted our intelligence then maybe it could of been a movie fitting of the 40 year celebrations. Instead of that it will be remembered for all the wrong reasons
Holy hell, that's really true, lol.
How from what we've heard about the plot so far do you extract a worrying disposition? We've heard nothing but positive exclamation and jeering from the cast and crew about how great the script and the story they're getting to tell is. I don't see your logic.
Any way, what I'm saying is that the Skyfall plot sounds like a retread of TWINE. I hope it isn't but that's what it sounds like.
DAD did suck, but it was actually a great movie up until Q revealed the invisible car. Everything after that drags the film down. But QOS was worse than DAD, almost none of it is good, even craig doesn't like it. QOS is the worst bond film ever.
I'm not a big fan of QoS but it its certainly better than DAD. That said there are some action scenes in Die (namely the sword fight) that are more impressive than those in Quantum.
I agree with @Getafix
I don't like the sound of skyfalls plot. Everything else seems great, but the plot sounds crap. We've been seeing too much of M lately, it was original in TWINE, now its boring. M should just stay at a desk instead of pretending to be bonds mum throughout the film (another reason QOS sucked). The last thing I wanted was for skyfall was an M/bond trust focused plot, but thats what I've got.
I'm annoyed cleese isn't coming back too. He was great and this new guy (young, serious) doesn't sound great.
I am not convinced about Mendes either.
Hopefully I will have all my concerns blown out of the water, eh???
QOS has left a very bad taste....
Snowfall!
:D
How she got an Oscar for Monsters Ball is beyond me.
However, she did manage to get Razzies for Catwoman, which was certainly deserved.
