Name Your Favorite "Bond Moments" for Each Actor

edited February 2012 in General Discussion Posts: 1,778
This is pretty simple. Just list your favorite moment of each actor. Bond moment means pretty much what it sounds like. A moment that makes you proud to be a fan,

Sean Connery- I’ll have to pick a cliché answer and say his introduction in Dr.No. But honorable mention goes to Bond tricking the half-witted security guard in Goldfinger and is “man talk” moment with Dink in the same film.

George Lazenby- Slim pickings. I’ll go with his scene with M before the attack on Piz Gloria. One of Lazenby’s better acted scenes.

Roger Moore- A toss up between the way he beats Kamel Khan at the card table in Octopussy and his legendary cold-blooded kill of Locque in For Your Eyes Only.

Timothy Dalton- There’s no question here as to what my favorite Dalton moment is. In LTK after Bond has killed Sanchez and stands in the middle of the desert bruised, bloodies, and battered. He limps over to a nearby rock, sits down, and takes a breath all alone, as he’s been through most of the movie, culminating his journey. It’s one of those instances where I can point my finger and say “That’s James Bond”.

Pierce Brosnan- I was going to say his cold-blooded killing of Electra followed by his cool delivery of “I never miss” but then Brosnan ruins it by almost getting on top of Electra’s dead body. So I’ll settle with Bond’s introduction in the PTS of Tomorrow Never Dies.

Daniel Craig- Like Dalton I know my choice for sure. Near the end of QOS after Bond has made quick work of the MI6 guards in the elevator he defiantly walks up to M and speaks his mind. M then finally realizes that Bond was never in it for revenge but it was indeed always about doing the job and finally believes Bond’s earlier statement of “You don’t have to worry about me”. I easily see it as a huge shift in their relationship. Craig’s Bond has finally made that transition of being fully trusted by M as the other 5 Bonds were. It was just nice seeing how it happened.

Sean - "Red wine with fish, that should have told me something.." "your the one on your knees old man.."

    Laz - the bobsled chase

Rog - the meeting with Colombo in FYEO "my country awarded him the kings medal.."

Tim -at the Prater Park chasing the balloon sellar after Saunders is killed. "Yes, I got the message.."

Broz - Dr Kaufman in Hamburg

Craig - getting up from nearly dying of poisoning and asking Vesper if she is alright. So tough and so British.

Connery - "Bond, James Bond" Dr No.

Laz - "There's no hurry you see, we have all the time in the world"

Rog - "You left this with Firarra I believe"

Dalton - the threatening of Pushkin

    Brozza - "Me too"

    Craig - "Yes, considerably"

    Anyone else?

    Me!

Sean Connery: "Old man? Is that what you chaps in SMERSH call each other?"

George Lazenby: "It takes more than cutting off your earlobes to turn you into a count, Blofeld!"

Roger Moore: "When I kill it's on specific orders of my government; I doubt you qualify as a gentleman."

Timothy Dalton: "If you can't trust Krest, who can you trust?!"

Pierce Brosnan: "You first. You, second. UP!"

Daniel Craig: "That last hand, nearly killed me."

    Connery
When he executes Dent - loved this moment from the very first time I saw it... not just the killing, but the way he sets it up and catches Dent in the act as well.. F-ing brilliant

    Lazenby
I always liked the way he disarms Tracy of his PPK in his hotel room... other than that, I love the fist fight between him and the guy in Tracy's room - and also the scene where he breaks in Gumbold's safe.

    Moore
When asked to go Pheasant hunting by Drax, and he shoots one of Drax's gunmen from a tree, who was aiming to kill Bond... "Ha-ha, you missed Mr. Bond." (guy falls out of tree) "Did I?.. As you said, such good sport."

    Dalton
Interogating Pushkin in his hotel room in Tangiers.. "That was damned STUPID!!" (thwack!)

    Brosnan
Bond's first confrontation with Renard in TWINE down in bunker... IMO, one of Brozzer's good moments as Bond... right along with that, goes the scene in which he kills Dr. Kaufman..

    Craig
The PTS in CR, the whole sequence showing how he brutal kills the man in the bathroom, and also how he calmly kills Dryden... i also do like his chase, and fight with Mitchell in QOS, as well as his confrontation with Yusef at the end of the movie.

PB: Pierce avenges Alec's betrayal and celebrates by getting a haircut.

    My list

Connery Too many to name, but I may go with Bond's escape from Dr. No's prison-- it was such a change of pace to see him bloodied and hair all over the place with his torn up clothes-- after seeing him neat as a pin in his tailored suits the rest of the movie. The escape itself had some tension as well (particularly in those tubes with the HOT water-- I would have freaked)

Lazenby Haserot mentioned one of my favs (below) so I'll go with the attack on Piz Gloria when Bond slides down on the ice firing his machine gun! What a (stylish) badass!

Moore Another tough one- I'll have to go with OP- the entire train sequence followed by the car chase. Very adventurous- like right out of an Indiana Jones film.

Dalton LTK with Bond sneaking aboard Krest's ship and interrogating Lupe- he was SCARY! Then I love when he goes on deck and just shoots that laughing diver right in front of everybody! ('Compliments of Sharkey')
lol It was like one of those Stealth video games like Metal Gear Solid-- like 'ok I'm done sneaking around now, I'm going to just kill this guy'
*honorable mention: framing Krest with the money later on, Bond's double-take when Pam strips down to her swimsuit! LOL I would have done the same thing! Those LEGS! DAMN! :-O

Brosnan The shootout, and then hand-to-hand between Bond and OO6 at the end of GoldenEye. Two professionals throwing everything they've got at each other- the filmmakers really did a good job of conveying that these two guys have had years of the same training- and they're just neck and neck the whole way. 30+ years in, we're finally seeing Bond go up against someone who's truly his equal

Craig I feel SkyFall will have something to top this one, but for now I'll go with the very end of Casino Royale, when he calls Mr.White as if he's somewhere far away, then SHOOTS him! Then he steps into frame decked out in that sharp suit (I want one), combined with that music, I thought to myself the first time I saw it in the theatre 'That's Bond right there....' and then that's exactly what came out of Craig's mouth! Now that's how to do a re-boot!

I LOVE that part! Lazenby seriously moves almost faster than I can see-- and he looks so confident-- even stating at Tracy's eye the whole time! 'I could think of something more sociable to do **SNAP**"

That was the moment that sold as Bond for me

Sean - so many to choose from. Love the PTS of Goldfinger and his insouciance at the bar as the explosion goes off in the background.
George - the final scene of OHMSS.
Roger - dressed as a clown at the end of OP - brilliant bit of acting.
    Tim - PTS of TLD
Pierce - the last glimpse of him at the end of DUD
Dan - train meeting between Bond and Vesper
  • I really liked Lazenby's disarming Tracy in OHMSS but what always gets me in that scene is Lazenby smoothly talking and then a horrible dub of him barking the line "now who was he" hits in. It just made it look cheap.

People have said there are too many to mention, obviously the introduction of Connery in 1962, killing of Dent, beach scenes in Dr No, Train fight with Donald Grant, and some classic lines of dialog in Diamonds. Moore too had some such as the Crocodile Farm, snake in the bathroom, fooling Solitaire with the tarot cards, emerging on the beach and fish out the window in Spy, killing Drax in Moonraker 'take a giant step for mankind etc', the Acrostar Jet escape in Octopussy, dice game at Kamals club, Miss Magda 'needs refilling' in bed, steeplechase at Zorins racecourse and the Eiffel Tower shots were fun too. Dalton had the interogation of Pushkin and burning of Sanchez, Brosnan on the train with Bean and Janssen, remote control car demonstration wih Q, opening titles of TWINE on the Thames, pipeline scenes and sword fight with Toby Stephens. Craig at the airport, talking with M, futile attempt to save Green from drowning and some hard edged action scenes in QOS

Sean-His big introduction in DN, killing Dent, FRWL train fight, meeting with Dr. No, killing Jacques Bouvard, FRWL shootout at gypsy camp, shooting clay pigeons with Largo, checking his rooms for bugs(most notable in DN and FRWL), reaction to Kerim's death, making Goldfinger lose his card game, laser table talk with Goldfinger, TB underwater bout, Little Nellie fight, bye bye Mr. Wint and Kidd. Basically anything Sean did was cool and my favorite, okay?

George-Reaction to Traci's death, breaking the 4th wall in PTS.

Rog-Killing Stromburg, facing off against Scaramanga.

Tim-LTK bar fight, reaction to finding Felix near death.

Pierce-TND fight at Carver's gala/event, tank rampage in GE, TWINE Thames chase.

Dan-CR PTS, CR opening chase, Bond meets Vesper, smiling at Carlos's big BOOM, reaction to Vesper's death, "the bitch is dead", forgiving Mathis, payback for Mathis, giving Greene an ultimatum, meeting Yusef, "I never left".

Great thread idea to boot! =D>

I believe he means his innocence when at the bar as the explosion goes off. Yet he is the only one remaining after the aftershock besides his on site overseer. Suspicious, hmmm? :P
  • I thought it was refering to 'his innocence' also, it would make perfect sense as Connery calmly lights up with his watch as the timers go off in the Goldfinger teaser, but apparently Insouciantcan mean turning a blind eye or unconcerned so @Getafix is therefore correct with his sayings. Well said then

Sean:When Pussy told him her name: "I must be dreaming".
    Laz: fight with Blofield
Rog: to the bullet maker, pointing gun at his groin: "Speak now or forever hold your piece."
    Tim:PTS of TLD
Pierce: when shooting Elektra: "I never miss"
Daniel: when asked if he wanted his VM shakin or stirred: "Do I look like I give a damn?"
  • I wouldn't have minded too much if Ursula Andress or Jane Seymour had been named Pussy Galore but with Blackman if I look back now, it all seems a bit unsavory, I take into account her age at the time and I didn't really find her that attractive either. Apologies to Ms Blackman, you are a fine actress but that's how I feel about it, maybe they could of found a different name for her and saved the Pussy title for someone else. I have to be honest with myself

Insouciance - lighthearted unconcern , nonchalance etc.

The essence of Connery's Bond and of course Moore's as well.

If you'd taken the care to read previous comments you'd see that we have both corrected ourselves and thanked you for giving us a new vocabulary word. I on one hand, do not appreciate being told that I don't "understand English anymore". I have an expansive vocabulary, and write with great prose, but that does not mean that I know the meanings of every word in the English language present under the moon. It isn't that it is a "big word", but that it was just foreign to me and the other members. So please, in the future, a simple correction and clarification will do, but never insult my intelligence.

Perhaps it just isnt used over that side of the atlantic? I knew what it meant. Its used over here.

  • Connery - "Shocking. Positively shocking."
Lazenby - Throwing the hat to Moneypenny at the wedding.
Moore - Knocking the tie out of the henchman's hand and sending him off the roof in TSWLM.
Dalton - The sniper scenes in TLD.
Brosnan - Racing and then playing baccarat with Xenia in GE.
Craig (so far) - PTS and "The name's Bond, James Bond" from CR.

    Oops...sorry for the double post.

I was just watching OHMSS and thought about that wedding scene. What a touching moment. It's a shame it gets ruined in DAF by Moneypenny asking Bond for a ring. Not sure if that was an appropriate request given the way Bond's marriage ended.
  • What did I say before ? (not what Action Steve quoted above in any event, that was someone else i.e. Brady) but let's try for an update -

Connery - "My name is Bond, James Bond" (where else could you start)

Lazenby - "We'll be going on in a moment, she's just having a rest"

Moore - The parachute jump at the start of the Spy Who Loved Me. Yes, it was Rick Sylvester, and not Moore of course, but it's all a lot of people talk about, and it was a standout moment for the franchise

Dalton - Setting ablaze Robert Davi. "Don't you want to know why"...

Brosnan - The Jump off the dam in Switzerland (Archangel research facility)

Craig - Trying to save Vesper Lynd from a drowning in a Venice elevator and sinking building
  • Connery - the introduction. "Bond. James Bond." A legend is born.

Lazenby - "We have all the time in the world".

Moore - the moment in FYEO when he kicks Locque off the cliff. One of the coldest of all Bond moments in the only film where Moore is truly convincing.

Dalton - the death of Sanchez, and the solitude that follows.

Brosnan - "For England? No, for me". Although most of Goldeneye could have taken this.

Craig - a tie between the train conversation with Vesper (probably the best bit of acting in the entire franchise) and the ascent up the stairs of White's villa, with the Music and the Line. And so we come full circle.
  • I thought I'd bring this thread back up seeing as how Skyfall is upon us. I'd imagine I'm not the only rewatching all the Bond films and enjoying all those great moments. ;)

Good thread idea! So hard for some of them!

    Sean Connery

Many great moments to choose from. His introduction in Dr No, the bedroom scene in From Russia With Love, walking through the casino in Thunderball, any of them would be worthy winners

But for me, the fight scene with Peter Franks in Diamonds are Forever is stunning. Connery at his most brutal and charming. The fight is the best fight sequence not just in a Bond film but in all of cinema.

    George Lazenby

Not much to pick from here. I think the love scenes with Tracy steal the show and are amongst the best.

The rawness at the end where he is cradling Tracy is emotional and terrifically done. It's all filmed very well and Lazenby plays it so well

    Roger Moore

This is the toughest category because there are so many great moments in the Moore era!

    Contenders included

    - The crocodile jump in LALD
    - The ski jump in TSWLM
    - Bond kicking the car of the cliff in FYEO (the series darkest moment)

But for me, it is the Germany sequence (and more specifically, the clown) scene in Octopussy. Terrific and amazing, it highlighted the best of Moore and was the series most tensest moment

    Timothy Dalton

Dalton's stint as Bond was short but very sweet. Though neither TLD and LTK are iconic as such, he did have some great moments (his confrontation with M in LTK for example)

But it is LTK that provides one of the series greatest Bond/Villain interaction. When Dalton first meets Sanchez, it's the wolfish look and approach that makes the scene. It's topped off by one of the best lines in the series

Sanchez: So you're a problem solver
Bond: More of a problem eliminator

Terrific, and the little smile he does makes it even better

    Pierce Brosnan

Ah the Brosnan years...yes. Well there are some good moments. Though she's turned into a pest, when he first meets M in GE is terrific, the straightening of the tie in TWINE is good and, if i'm honest, so is the torture sequence in DAD

But for Brosnan, his best moment came in GE when he and Xenia Onatopp are in the sauna. She attacks him he draws his PPK out and this follows:

Xenia: You don't need the gun
Bond: That depends on your definition of safe sex

An all time high for Brosnan that was

    Daniel Craig

Yea, the running in CR is good, the car chase in QOS isn't bad either. But there is only one winner in the Craig years:

The train sequence with Vesper. Stunning, sparkling dialogue. So well played and hinted that Moore's interpretation of Bond isn't fully dead. Craig and Green relish it and create a chemistry that sets the tone for the film. It's the best Bond/Bond girl interaction in the series imo
