OHMSS has more winks and nods than DAD?

Also, while it's known he and Teri Hatcher didn't get on and lacked chemistry the shot of him undoing her dress is pretty erotic.

    Shoulda been Monica Bellucci.

Probably, but I've never seen her act so can't comment.

Many fans seem to loath the "winks" and "nods" in Die Another Day to past Bond movies, But what about OHMSS? the Title sequence is a lager nod to all the past Bonds. Then there's the midget whistling Goldfinger. And in Bond's office, as he removes gadgets from his desk, a tune from that gadgets particular movie is played. Thoughts?

why do I dislike the nods in DAD as compared to OHMSS...

first off, there aren't as many..... while some might be as "in your face" blatant as DAD's, there is simply less of them - due to the simple fact that a reference point from all previous 19 films is in DAD at some point or another - whether it's subtle or in your face...

secondly, DAD felt like a film that was trying way too hard to be everything - OHMSS while it had it's nods, still felt like it was trying to be it's own Bond movie... DAD was the result of 40 years stuffed into a blender and turned on to high speed.

OHMSS, is better directed, better edited, better scored, better acted - and is all around the better film between the two.... does the middle drag a bit?.. yes, it does (for me anyway), and could've probably been trimmed up - but i would take that over the majority of DAD any day of the week.

Another good point to mention, in the OHMSS little flashbacks, the action wasn't created just to give a nod, while in DAD certain actions or scenes were there solely to give a wink to the previous films. Tacky.

One thing I'm thankful for in DAD was the absense of a Sean Connery/James Bond cameo - as was 'allegedly' suggested by Tamahori.

lol right, as Brosnans FATHER no less!

Didn't Tamahori buy into that whole 'Bond is just a codename' crap?
Apparently so. I must admit part of me doesn't believe it. It may have just been a joke made by Tamahori in script meetings but I have difficulty accepting it as a serious consideration. It just sounds too preposterous.

In my eyes, the whole film is a poorly executed oddity in the franchise.
Lazenby looks like such a goof!
I know I`m going against the grain here, but I preffered DAD by a mile.

I don`t get why OHMSS is forgiven for so many naff elements, like the ones you mention. It comes off like a charactature of a Bond film.
Also, doesn`t anyone else here think that the middle of the film drags on and on? With that ridiculous accent dubbed over Lazenbys voice???

As a kid, this film was considered a stinker by me and my childhood friends. I still consider it to be a stinker.

DAD is too, but to a much lesser extent. It still has a fantastic first half.....

Preach it brother! OHMSS is my least favorite Bond movie. Now, while I still prefer it as a Bond movie to any other movie out there, it sits at the bottom of my Bond list. And yes, if my choice, I'd pick Die Another Day as well. Pierce Brosnan is just too epic for words, and the action in DAD is really thrilling, not to mention a pretty good score by David Arnold. Also, in DAD, we get a variety of great locations that span across dirt and mud of North Korea to Caribbean Cuba to cold ice of Iceland. Is DAD in my Top 5? No, but I do prefer it to OHMSS any day of the week.

Poorly executed? With some of the best action sequences and location photography of the series? With possibly the best script of the series and one of the best scores?

Lazenby a goof? When does that happen exactly? Is it when hes smashing the f**k out of various adversaries in the best fights since Bond v Grant (the beach, the hotel room, Piz Gloria reception, the bell room) or is it when he cockily strides into the casino looking smoother than the Fonz himself? Or is it when he gives as good as he gets with Bernard Lee in some of the best M/Bond scenes of the series? What about when hes coldly choking the guy behind a tree to keep him quiet - whilst at the same time showing real fear that he might be caught (something that even Connery only managed to convey once when he was on his knees on the Orient Express). Or how about the final assault on Piz Gloria where he cooly slides along the ice mowing down goons and then gives the king of double takes as the lab technician throws some acid at him?
Theres only one goof around here sir and its certainly not the Laz.

I think your use of the horrendous term 'franchise' betrays where you are coming from. 'Franchise' describes a production line of crap such as Mcdonalds or KFC so if thats what you prefer then DAD is certainly right up your alley as the Big Mac of Bond films. I prefer Dom Perignon and Royal Beluga (North of the Caspian obviously!) myself.

OHMSS is as close to what Fleming put on the page as we have ever had on the screen and if you are seriously saying you prefer invisble cars, sub Carry On double entendres and a CGI overload then you might want to consider turning your allegiance to 'franchises' such as Transformers, Charlies Angels or Avatar as I dont really think Bond is for you.

Honestly if the moment Bond straps on his skis in Piz Gloria as John Barry quietly revs the engine of the OHMSS theme before giving it full throttle doesnt get your heart racing then you really have no right to call yourself a Bond fan.

Each to his own and I've no problem with people who say they prefer FRWL, CR or (god forbid) even TMWTGG to OHMSS but to say you prefer the embarassment of DAD to possibly the highest point of the series marks you out as an imbecile who has no appreciation of what Bond is about - because I can tell you for one thing its not DAD.

Oh, I`m sorry. My taste doesn`t match yours, I must be the imbecille then...? (to quote YOU)

Right. As you have decided to make this personal, so shall I.
I can see your passion. I get it. I can be passionate too. If you were to insult me to my face like you just did, I would become passionate. You would be picking your teeth out from your throat. Crying, for your mummy.
    Don`t believe it? Try me.
That`s the great thing about the internet though, isn`t it? You can act like a total retard and sleep well afterwords, in your little Wizzard fantasy.
It`s people like you who ruin the vibe of friendly forums. And all the other f*ck wits who backed your abusive post towards me.

    YOU, owe me an apology.

While I don`t claim to be an expert on Bond as much as some people here, I probably have been a fan longer than you have been walking your GOOFY ass on this planet.
Oh, and go and look up the meaning of franchise, it doesn`t mean fast food burgers.

For the record, and to REINSTATE, I said DAD and OHMSS were messy films. I just prefer DAD.

OHMSS is crapola of the first degree, and Lazenby is f*cking awfull. This does not equate a Brosnan fanboy. Try and get your thick mind around this, you total pr*ck.

Have a nice day in Wizzard land.....

There's no need to get aggressive Shorline. We all have our own thoughts and opinions and Wizard expressed his clearly and articularly (other than the 'imbicile' remark). I myself, as stated, am not a big Laz fan but I'd take OHMSS over DAD anyday.

OHMSS has Diana Rigg, Tely Savalas and Louis Armstrong.

DAD has Halle Berry, Toby Stevens (good actor in a hammy role) and Madonna.

I know which one I'd pick and I know which one has more heart and dignity.

    Get real...

I have never knowingly insulted someone who has a different opinion to mine, I don`t expect it back.

Well, if this is the case, that if you don`t fall in with the crowd, then you are not welcome, see ya.

the only thing i hate about OHMSS is that it has so much padding- i mean i had to skip chapters just to get to the plot (the part with the dubbing was so bad) and well the only really good bit of acting from Lazenby was at the end with Tracy's Death but considering that all this romantic nature from Bond doesnt feel natural i mean this is post Connery and well i like Diana Rigg...she was decent if cold
