Tracy here here as well. Her death was so real and painful- no last looks or words. =((

Tracy! Because Vesper betrayed Bond so I didn't like her for a while. But Tracy was a civilian, and just married Bond, and then the movie ends... One of the saddest ending in movie history!

    Technically, Vesper saved Bond's life.
  • Tracy everytime. Diana Rigg still my favourite Bond girl/wife. Love her to bits.

It's true but I'm like Bond and my anger dominates me at first.
  • Without a doubt, Vesper. I hadn't read either book beforehand, so the element of surprise was all there. Those who say there was a greater buildup to Vesper's death and hence more predictable are both wrong and right - I was expecting Bond to shoot Vesper down in cold blood (for instance, when he says, "Allow me." in CR), but instead ... as for Lazenby's simplicity being moving, Craig's acting was just as touching - look at the contrast, Solange being killed and Bond thinking of her as just another victim of his work, or not thinking at all, and then Vesper being killed, and Bond being grief ridden enough to not even attempt to look for the briefcase of money, just kneeling there holding her corpse. In context, CR was way more touching - it had all the elements in the romance OHMSS did (Bond choosing to resign, a too good to be true few days, death and crushing grief), with the plot and acting far better than OHMSS. AND, if that isn't enough, Vesper enables Bond to trace White, the guy with the organization behind it all. Now, I don't care however many times I hear "The bitch is dead," I am never going to be convinced that Bond thought of Vesper as a bitch - my belief is that he looked at Vesper in the light M suggested he look at her ("She must have made a deal with them, to spare your life in exchange for the money" - if that isn't proof of Vesper's love for Bond, I don't know what is), and moreover only regretted bitterly that Vesper was too consumed by her guilt to remain with Bond. All I can say is, Lazenby's acting with Diana Rigg didn't move me - I was not expecting Bond to really propose to Tracy in the movie and was surprised a lot when he did - with Craig and Green, after that epic declaration "Whatever I am, I'm yours", I hardly expected anything else - in full knowledge that before Bond met Vesper, he took women as disposable pleasures rather than meaningful pursuits.

For me it has to be the death of Tracy, I felt so bad for Bond when I first saw it.

I am disappointed to read that Lazenby's and Rigg's acting didn't move you. I thought the acting from Lazenby during his escape from Blofeld's mountain was fantastic. When he was sitting down at the ice rink, waiting to be caught before Tracy turned up, is the ONLY time I have genuinely felt fear for Bond. This is purely down to Lazenby.
I have to disagree with your 'disposable pleasures' comment also. Yes at first Tracy was only used for info but that soon changed and Bond fell for her. He wouldn't marry a disposable pleasure would he?

  • The death of Tracy at the end of OHMSS is by far the most emotional moving moment of any Bond and the its what elevates the film to #1 to me.
I think part of it is the film spent a lot of time on their romance so It felt like more than a love at first sight or the love and leave them of most other Bonds.

Just watched OHMSS, and i think it was Tracy's. I really felt the guilt when she had said: "Now, I have a future" before Blofeld had her shot dead; she was a spoiled, rich daughter who had just found a better life. Yes, the scene lacks suspense--alright, it was made in the 60s--because Blofeld and his henchwoman were shown driving towards Bond and Tracy, but George's reaction was convincing enough. Diana Rigg was clearly better than Laz in the movie.

Vesper death was sad mainly because of Craig's reaction when he failed to resuscitate her, but it didn't affect me that much to the point I remember it most of the time. The relationship between Bond and Lynd seemed too complex unlike Bond-Tracy's good, old, true love. The "The name is Bond" scene with Mr. White is much more memorable and cooler.

In the books, Tracy's death hit me harder. Bond finally gets to settle down, finally is able to truly move on from Vesper, only for Vesper's death to basically happen to him a second time.

However, in the films, Vesper's death has much more of an impact. Just a beautiful scene. Gets tears going every time I watch it.

They didn't know how to do anythings back then, but thankness for progress !

    Vesper all by the way.

Absolutely Tracy's. I feel Bond loved Vesper and Tracy equally, but Tracy's death is more tragic because it happened on their wedding day and add to that, Tracy didn't betray Bond beforehand. I love Vesper dearly, my 2nd favorite Bond girl after Tracy, but yeah. The ending of OHMSS is so sad, so damn good. So shocking for me the first time, too.
  • Tracy. Far more brutal. Plus, I went to the cinema knowing Vesper was going to self-perish.

Yes that's pretty well summed up. I'd like to think 90% of Bond fans had read the novel by the time CR had hit the cinemas so the ending wasn't exactly a surprise. The shower scene probably has more of an emotional impact simply because we didn't see it coming.

Tracy's death still remains the most powerful scene in the series' history.

Tracy's death affected me the most. It was unexpected and unstoppable. Vesper's Death on the other hand was useless. She could have undone the damage she caused and exposed Quantum to MI6 and in return she would be in protective custody.

Tracy's death was more hard-hitting on the instant. Lots of in-between scenes including disagreements naturally played through OHMSS to make Bond and Tracy more natural for a couple. Plus Tracy was played by a very credible actress whose age matched more. Vesper's cry for Bond during his injury reminded me of Natalia's bad acting in GE with Bond during the sunset. That's not to say there wasn't chemistry in their smart conversations between Bond and Vesper. Great dialogue for both couples. But I liked Vesper more in a msytical or spiritual non-alive sense like she was in QoS because no matter what Bond had to overcome her all by himself. No matter what he did she could not be brought back. So QoS is why Vesper's death was probably just as hard hitting as the end of OHMSS without knowledge beforehand that DAF would pee-budt all over the story's legacy.

Have to say Tracy's death affected me more by default. Vesper's death was very tragic as well, but Tracy was completely innocent toward Bond the whole time. And they were actually married. The one thing he ever loved was taken away from him in an instant, and it was a lot more sudden and unexpected than Vesper dying. Both are well-done sad scenes, but for pure sadness and attachment to the film, no moment trumps Mrs. Bond's death. Good acting from Lazenby, and one of the most important scenes in the history of Bond.
  • Vesper did betray Bond, even if Yusef tricked her. Less remorse for her. But also at the end of OHMSS, the beginning of the movie came to mind when Bond had saved Tracy from committing suiee, she looked forward to life, then it got taken away from her.

If Vesper came after SF then it would have been sadder to see Bond lose her, knowing Bond's backstory and his psyche a bit more.

Traceys death is easily more sad and tragic. She had just found the will to live again having met and married Bond.....and then to be killed in such a brutal fashion... :((

I couldnt care less about Vesper. She was annoying.Glad the bitch is dead.

    Tracy! Definitely.

Vesper was a great character and I thoroughly enjoyed the pairing of Craig and Green (one of the best in Bond history), but I was just not affected in the same way by her death. The romance between Laz and Rigg felt much more solid and 'grown-up' - therefore the impact of her death was felt much more. Plus, Laz's performance is excellent in that final scene.

Tracy. Biggest "plot twist (?)" in all franchise

    Tracy.
  • Tracy' death was far more effective.

Somehow I get the feeling that even if Vesper died on her wedding day or being gunned down while giving birth to Bond's baby, her death will still do not resonate the way Tracy's did.

I guess that is because Tracy's character was written better, more realistic, and portrayed by a far, FAR superior actress. I mean, how can you top Diana Frigging Rigg??

  • Tracy and Bond spent time together more. There was feelings of celebration and more drama scenes. Plus, Tracy didn't seem like she was competing with Bond too much nor was she much different in age. The credibility of her character was more accurately portrayed.
  • Did SC ever comment on OHMSS or GL?

Without doubt these are my favourite Bond girls. Tracy is the more devastating for the viewer but vesper more emotionally damaging for Bond due to the betrayal.
However the one that effected me most was the loss of M in Skyfall. The film was blinding but left me numb. I sense this was due to the fact we had got know her over a series of 7 films as only a single one for the others. (I know this is slightly off subject - - apologies for any offence caused)

Interesting that a FEMALE M would get captured (TWINE) and ultimately dies (Skyfall) whereas the male M was relatively separated from the action.

The loss of Judi Dench's M affected me greatly; I would say tied with Tracy for saddest. All 3 were the saddest deaths/moments in the series for me.
