The point is that they were kids and kids grow up. The Bond series did as well.

    I hate growing up. It's overrated ;)

Seriously, Bond should be about having fun and not being TOO po-faced and serious. Even Royale - a darker film - has an elegant, classy and fun side. It strips back the silliness but still keeps the sense of fantasy that makes Bond work.

There's a reason films like GF, YOLT and TB are fondly remembered by many and LTK is often overlooked. The former are more "fun". I remember a friend of the family (a grown up person) who described LTK as "horrible". The fact that it seems to divide even hardcore fans more than any other film in the series tells you something.

I enjoy it but I can see why some don't.

And a new generation of kids come along. If Bond doesn't give them what they want then they look somewhere else. ;)
  • There is nothing wrong with a bit of fantasy. If we lose that completely we lose the true essence of movie Bond. There was a fair bit of fantasy in the Fleming novels too. A James Bond film should (at some level) be escapism.
  • If that was the case them some of the releases I've seen over the years may well have been of 'Houdini proportions'. A little bit of escapism and fantasy is all very well but not to an extent when they get a bit carried away with it. All I ask for is a sensible story, a minimum on outrageous humor such as we have seen before, OK times change as does Bond but there you are. Craig is not without his silly moments but for the most part presents a very much serious depiction of the character and hard edged reality, it's probably the best thing he brings to the part since taking over from Brosnan

Am I missing the fact that the acrostar from OP is missing from that list?
    Tell me I'm wrong.
How could you have a list of 50 iconic Bond items and not include the acrostar.
  • I don't really agree with some of the items on that list

OddJob's Bowler Hat at #2, are you kidding me, there are plenty of other more iconic symbols of 007 out there that deserve such a position

It gets worse - Thunderball Jet Pack at Number 4, this is getting absurd now

#5, Flying Speedboat, Live and Let Die, what is going here ?, OK, it's my favorite Bond release but this speedboat should not be in such a position, that makes no sense, matter of fact it shouldn't even be included in this list, it simply isn't a worthy inclusion

I looked through the rest again and take issue with at least half a dozen other rankings there, how can Craig's swimming trunks be included in this and in a higher position than the Cyanide dart gun from Moonraker ?

Damn silly if you ask me 8-|

That White bikini with Bowler Hat , Walther PPK, Martini and Opening Film titles particularly of John Barry are in my top6.

Too much from NSNA. That's not a Bond film in my eyes.

Is a James Bond movie just not a EON movie.
