Among my personal friends, most still enjoy DAD ... far more than I do.
They like Pierce and think it was fun and that Halle was sexy. What can I say? I like parts of it only.

The two scenes with Bond and M are definitely highlights.

M: You had your cyanide Die Another Day DVD.
Bond: Thew it away years ago, what the hell is this all about?!

"The same person who sold me DAD then has just sold me 'Movie 43', so I'm going after him."
  • DAD was immensely successful at the time. I was in the top 10 B.O. movies of the year, and the reviews were mixed to positive. It's only after Casino Royale that people started to complain about how OTT DAD was.

The movie just seems like - a 40 year old celebration + keeping up with the trends type movie- rather than an entry, and it does a good job for what it was meant to be.

    'When your intervention forced me

the disgusting Gustav Graves on you.
    Oh, just in the details.
    That unjustifiable swagger.
Your crass quips - a Bond DVD
    concealing such inadequacy.'

Watched it again last night.....apart from the inexcusably bad cg surfing and theme song, its bloody good fun! The car duel and destruction of the ice palace are amongst my favourite Bond movie action scenes ever.

Yes, I agree. :) And I also like the whole movie, it's in my Top 5...

In retrospect I think Die Another Day was a massive improvement over Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough, it was a good end to the Brosnan era films and it was fairly entertaining. Not as good of course as Goldeneye was though

I dread to imagine what would be a massive drop, by your standards or anyone's standards.

I got in the theater thinking DAD would be a great Bond, I had read positive reviews about it, but not detailed one so I didn't know what to expect. I had my doubts after seeing the trailers, it looked too fake and I was fearing it was going to be heavy in scifi elements. But I did not expect it was going to be that bad. My frustration grew watching it, when I left the theater I was disappointed, when I was home I was actually angry. I thought this was the Batman & Robin of Bond movies and it may actually destroy the franchise. It also made me reevaluate the whole Brosnan era.

I watched it tonight for the first time in years. I guess, in part, because of the beating it takes around here my expectations were fairly low. In the end I enjoyed it much more than expected. Is it perfect no but I found it fun. many have said that Pierce was looking old by this point; I could not disagree more. While he may not have the physique of Craig he looked in his prime. So in the end; perfect no, fun yes.

I agree. Pierce looked great for his age, and his performance was fine. As for the film itself- nobody can accuse it of not being entertaining.

It's a Bond 'popcorn flick' like MR ..just leave your brain at the door and go along for the ride.

The film has a few good moments but unlike MR its a badly made "popcorn flick". You can't really forgive it for that. Films like MR, YOLT, LALD and to a lesser extent even TND had a style so you could forgive the flaws more.

DAD is like a fan fiction Bond film.

Except in DAD's case, the ride crashes very early on and everyone ends up dead in a horribly twisted wreck.

Yes, but what a record-breaking crash!

I can switch off so easily, can't I? Doesn't it bother me, DAD killing those people? ;)

Yes, that seems about right. Bad fan fiction at that.
