With TWINE for me he's good in some scenes (the PTS, the castle, the construction site, the casino, the underground mine, killing Electra but REALLY bad in some other scenes.

Watch Haphazard's review for a good analysis of his performance.

I think Haphazard over-analyzes the crap out of the Bond films. His reviews are interesting but he points out very miniscule film-making flaws that only the eye of a trained film-school nerd would catch. I'm thinking of his critique of the GE PTS in particular. All of the Bond films since the beginning are littered with technical errors. Just watch Peter Hunts commentary on FRWL where he explains all these little editing tricks. Sorry that's a tangent...Brosnan in TWINE is the most confident as Bond IMO up until then.

Bond wouldn't say "I have no armour left, you've stripped it from me" either but no one cares about that.

    I do - I hate that line.

Yes me too. That line is horrible and recited like a high school play. What is this friggin' General Hospital?

He does. His assessment of the GE PTS is a classic example.

Brosnan's performance in DAD was his most comfortable outing in the role.. i mean it's obvious that he looked more relaxed as Bond than in previous films.... but i would hardly call it Fleming-esque....... was it at times? sure - but so was Moore in a handful of scenes, and he was the farthest removed from being the Fleming Bond than any of the actors....... Brosnan had his moments like Moore, but what is left after those moments, is far removed from anything resembling the Bond that I read in the Fleming novels...... and his performance hardly justifies giving this film a passing grade. - because nothing else about it (save for Arnold's score) was any good.

I respect everyone's opinion on here, and their love for certain Bond films over others.... but when i think of "proper Bond films", i think of From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, The Living Daylights...... some how, for me, Die Another Day just doesn't fit anywhere in those films...

IMO Moore in TMWTGG is one of the most flemingesque performance in the franchise. About Brosnan in DAD - he's acting in that film is simply a huge middle finger directed at TWINE, where he acted all melodramatic, wussy, like a 'trained theater actor' with all his gesture and hilarious (if not cringe-worthy) body-language... Frankly I much prefer the much more serious, fun, no-bullsh*t acting he gave in DAD over TWINE anyday. Brosnan seemed much more relax, strong, authoritary in DAD than his OTT performance in TWINE.

in terms of Moore, that is 1 film out of 7 - not a good batting average...... he had his moments no doubt - but they came few and far between... same with Brosnan - a poor man's Lazenby trying to emulate Roger Moore..

Brosnan wanted serious material to work with (like CR), and as close as he got was TWINE - he wanted material to explore Bond's emotional depth, instead being a cardboard cutout, 2 dimensional caricature... what TWINE showed, is that his Bond, wasn't capable of handling it on a realistic level - it felt forced, and unnatural.... a couple bright spots where there, that showed Pierce could infact do more than strut and smirk.. but again, he failed to deliver the goods where it counted...

DAD pulled back on the reigns yet again - instead of continuing to let Pierce explore the character, they turned him back into a cardboard cutout caricature - which works for Pierce obviously, because he looked more relaxed in the role..... i don't consider his performance a middle finger to anything and anyone - and if it is, if he threw a fit over material he was given, then fine - but TWINE proved his acting capabilities weren't up to snuff - not that they ever really were in the first place.... he was a decent 4 film place holder.. that is really all.

Which is why Brosnan should have started his tenure in 2002, when he finally gained some matured looks and acting chops... he could well have played Bond up to this year's outing.

starting Pierce's run as Bond at age 49 =))

if the man hadn't developed those skills by age 40, i doubt waiting until 49 would've made much difference.... it wasn't his age, it was his comfort level in the role... so at age 40 or 49, we would've had to sit through the same progression - but this time with another elderly Bond by the time his last film would debut........ yea, no thanks.

Please don´t mention that part of CR. It´s so terrible I´m trying to erase it from my memory.

I mean the stripped armor part.

And Brosnan was good when kept in a leech. He was really good as the lighthearted Bond he sometimes was. If he had his way, like in TWINE, I probably wouldn´t like him very much.

that is my point.... Brosnan's Bond was better when they basically told him "go act as Bond." instead of "go BE Bond."

Well then you are right. The DAD/TND approach should have been used in all of his movies, and a couple more after DAD.

    Matured looks=bloated Shatner/Baldwin

Acting shops=...what?! Pierce Brosnan?!? I grew up worshiping the guy but even I know he´s a tv actor, always will be. He doesn´t have acting shops. How matured acting wise was he in...say...Momma Mia? The only film I can stand him is in the Crown remake. Why? Because he plays it cool and quiet. The only scene in that freakin movie where he talks a bit more he almost ruins the entire flick (park argument scene near the end). Oh and the ending in the plane is just emo sh*t. McQueen wouldn´t stand for that. Pierce Brosnan is a cool cat, but he´s no top actor. I really like the guy, but I´m not delusional.

Brosnan isn't a great actor but he has had his moments - Inside Bond its Dr Kaulfman, dropping Alec and many of his scenes with M. I agree he's better as the cool cat though.

I gotta agree with on The Thomas Crown Affair..... IMO, he was better in The Thomas Crown Affair than any of his Bond outings - pure acting wise.

I admit I enjoy the car park scene in TND right after the Kaufman debacle. Cool scene with a funny ending.

He had some brilliant moments as Bond. The "me too" line with Kaufman, the look in the Swiss bankers office, the statue park in GE, ...many others. But moments don´t make the character. Sean was alwas cool as Bond, even if he had to chew on the scenery. I really like Pierce. I just think he´s a better Remington Steele. Always will be.

Yeah, brilliantly funny. Reminded me of the "yeah, one of those red italian things" line in the original film. Subtle yet wonderful.

That scene was great, but it´s to bad the ending of that was cut out ("I left the keys in the car"). That would have been epic.

I didn't know that was to be included. That is a shame.

Brosnan's best moments as Bond for me are as follows..

    - GE pts
    - GE confronting alec in the monument graveyard
    - GE final fight above the dish
    - TND execution of Dr Kaulfman
    - TND parking garage scene (even if it contradicts the emotion of the scene before it)
    - TWINE interrogating the swiss banker
    - TWINE taking out thug and then drinking martini - all in one motion - always cool.
    - TWINE interrogating Renard
    - TWINE executing Elektra
    - DAD "i'm not that kind of customer."
    - DAD fencing scene "oh dear.... you wanna continue??"

thats honestly about it..... and most of those make up mere seconds of 2+ hours of film.

See? Low key. Cool cat number. No Gas-face secret agent with bad puns.

meh... that deleted scene does nothing for me.... i liked the way it was presented originally better.

Ouch. That scene instantly reminded of the moment in TSWLM when Rog holds up the fish. Probably best they kept it out of the final cut.

Well, at least he got to see no one was injured...or dead. The Jaguar scene was cool though.
