I agree but I wouldn't say that's controversial.
There are some cringey lines and one awful bit of product placement but it's nowhere near as bad as the dialogue in DAD imo.
Don't think this is very controversial. Agree, I don't see why people are clamouring for the return of Quantum. SPECTRE, two films in, had already made a big impact and had already given us Grant, Klebb, Dr No and Blofeld. In Quantum's two films all they've done is try to steal some water, and they've given us Mr White and Dominic Greene. No contest really.
It is to one or two on here...
Yes toppling American Rockets and stealing a cipher decoding machine over funding terrorism and capitalizing a countries water source. About even ground really. It's kind of unfair to just dismiss Quantum when we haven't even seen their full potential. QoS had the faults of a writers strike so if that hadn't of happened they might have been developed better. And we've also had Le Chiffre as a Quantum agent. We've only seen the tip of the iceburg. Ignoring Quantum now would be like DAF ignoring OHMSS.
No. QoS not referencing Vesper would have been like DAF ignoring OHMSS. Not referencing Quantum is neither here nor there. It's possible to expand on them, but it's also possible to leave them out there, while Bond continues battling various nefarious threats. Quantum are not necessary in Bond's personal narrative. He found his Solace.
Mister White is still out there. And with the risk of the UK government being corrupted thanks to Haines influence is still possible. At least mentioning them would be nice. I know some of you guys don't give a hooplah about continuity but the rest of us do.
To be fair @Murdock, there is very little continuity through the entire series other than the odd reference to Bond's dead wife.
No, I am guessing credit card number. I will do some online shopping now.
I personally don't think it's about plot continuity. The continuity of the Craig films is the narrative of the character himself. At the beginning of SF he is a seasoned agent, the Bond of old, who is so cock-sure he'll straighten his cuffs on the most inappropriate, yet bad ass, of occasions. This is then stripped away - cue his gradual resurrection. Prior to this, there is a period of time between QoS and SF, not committed to film. A period where he could theoretically have tracked down White and dealt with Haines. On the other hand the trail may have gone cold, only to be picked up years later in B24. So what I'm saying is, yes, Quantum can return and there are many ways of achieving it, but it's case of whether it's absolutely necessary. I see no harm in referencing them, but will they fit into the 'character continuity' of Craig-Bond to warrant more than a nod?
nobody who did it.
I suppose that would have been more in keeping with the novel but I don't really mind it as it is.
DAD has some clangers, 'Yo Mama' being the crowning turd in the cistern of the film. Though that line was bad, the dialogue in Casino Royale made me wince. I felt like I had to apologise to anyone else watching, on behalf of the writers.
As for the product placement, that hasn't gotten better either. In CR alone, I recall that close up of the front of the Bondeo, the Sony logo painfully visible when Bond is watching the CCTV footage of Dimitrios & Solange at the club and the Omega/Rolex line on the Train.
Yes, slating SF--whilst praising QOS--is the acme of hip in these parts. Yet another reason to hold hipness in contempt.
Ha ha. Very true.
I'd still say the dialogue in DAD is worse. Also, if you want cringe-inducing product placement there's the exchange in TND
Bond: This looks familiar (holds up Rolex)
Wai-Lin: We've made some improvements
Bond: Have you indeed (close up of watch)
I wonder if Brosnan and Yeoh felt awkward saying that.
(I'm going by memory here) :
"You had better stay in my room tonight, keep up the pretense of being lovers" is just so bloody corny, the way he says it...have a look !
I thought he sounded a bit pissed off when he said that.
(around 2.58)
Right lets just shag and get it over with.
Er.....nope.....
Brosnan had no edge, and that's bad.
But when Brosnan had an edge, that's bad.
Y'know, Craig is not 100% my idea of Bond, but I don't feel the need to go about bashing every little thing about him to make me feel better about it; I wish people here could just admit they don't LIKE Brosnan to save time with all the pecking comments. ;)
There are some filthy members on this forum.....
:-&
Personally i do like Brosnan, and have supported him on several occassions both on the old website and on here.
And tbh i watch his films more than the others lately !!
They can be easy, fun watches. I have to get all ready for a LTK or CR...
I know what you mean, the same goes for me with TLD.
No, I think the examples I gave, especially the name check, are far worse.
