And Octopussy and Magda are cool.
I’ve always clearly assumed this to be the money strapped to Mr. White’s kneecaps from my very first viewing. What’s all this business about it just being the actor’s kneepads or something? They have stunt doubles for that, people! It’s the money strapped to his knees.
Controversial opinion:
I think Jesper did that fall himself. I don't believe that was a stunt double. Unless we can uncover a deleted scene where Mr White straps the money to his knees, I'm content with the belief those are poorly hidden knee pads to cushion Jesper's fall.
To me those pads look as obvious as that back pad Bond's mulleted opponent wears during the Barrelhead Bar sequence.
However for the sake of the character I like the idea of Mr. White hiding the money in his trousers.
If you look closely during the opera and chess scenes in QOS and SP you can still see the money strapped to his knees. He doesn’t fall in either of those scenes, does he?
I admire his preparation, all the same. You never know when you're going to take a tumble.
Or Roger: ‘thank God for hard currency’
LOL! You beat me to it. I was going to say something similar. That was Krest's back up stash of money the Mullet Man was wearing. The plan was to plant it on Bouvier at the Barrelhead Bar, make it seem as though she stole the money, then feel her to the sharks a'la Felix and come off as heroes when Sanchez later inquires about the money.
Krest has people everywhere.
It is both. It s money, but it also works as kneepads. Good thing it wasn t coins.
I'm going back on my kneepad theory now. It's not holding up.
Maybe Mr. White had his knees replaced by the same factory that manufactured Jaws' steel teeth?
I think those are steel kneecaps.
That makes absolutely no sense: orthopaedics and dentists are two very different kinds of professional.
Precisely. That's why it's in the controversial opinions thread.
Could be an orthodontist rather than a dentist:
Orthopaedics + Orthodontics
Ortho = Octo
Spectre is behind it all.
For villainous folk in a Bond film, there's the glaring omission of a physical defect or oddity. The knees seem like a natural. Would also force resultant improvements on Casino Royale: Bond's shot ricochets off White's stainless steel knees. Wild hand to hand combat ensues. Bond is put doubly at risk by the knees turning into jaws that can bite through metal cables, bite through boards, deadly for necks. Does the Aston Martin DBS have an electromagnet installed?
Unfortunately we'll never know.
That would've saved his knee if bond had shot at it though...
Those kneepads are great value for money.
I think you're onto something. It's good that we have so many of us on this now: it's a real joint effort.
If only approached as on the Monty Python and the Holy Grail DVD special features.
As "Unshot Footage".
Well, as long as you have the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch...
They can't help themselves with gadgets, for marketing purposes. And as each Bond actor gets more expensive, the newfangled gadgets help defray the costs.
I think the producers are always walking the line of trying to please as many people
as possible.
