Just read this... http://metro.co.uk/2018/01/25/henrikh-mkhitaryan-problem-jose-mourinho-says-armenia-coach-7261793/
‘I think Henrikh had a problem with the United coach and at Arsenal, it will be another thing and not the same situation. There will not be so much pressure on him defensively.
From what I've read today, there is a disagreement over the value of the player. Dortmund want more money, to put it simple. This worries me, as Arsenal have been in the same situation before many times, with the end result being no agreement. Still, with Gazidis, Mislintat and contract negotiator Huss Fahmy traveling to Dortmund, you'd expect the deal going through (hopefully!).
I sure hope the Armenia coach is right about Mkhitaryan possibly exceling at Arsenal. Arsenal need him to!
From what I have seen of Arsenal there is not much maneuverability when it comes to offering money for a player, it would appear Dortmund want rid so maybe the deal may still happen.
No, there isn't. Where other clubs just look like they can throw whatever the selling club wants on the table, Arsenal are constantly offering below the value, and negotiating themselves out of the deals. Then there's the Suarez bid story…
Can only imagine the reactions if a deal for Aubameyang isn't reached! Writing this, I know this is just as likely to happen!
Do you think Arsenal going in for players like Lemar is a smoke screen to create the illusion they are going for top players.
Decent win for United credit to Yeovil they had a go early on.
I hope not! I'm sure they are going for top players, but many top players wouldn't even consider Arsenal as an option, with the money and possibilities sides like Man Utd, Man City, PSG, Barca, Real Madrid etc. can offer.
The Lemar case is another odd one, though.
United showed the distance between a League Two team and a PL team in the end. Sánchez even got an assist…
The money side of things is crazy it is more of an unfair playing field than ever, the very top teams can spend stupid money, if it does not work out for a player they bought they ship them on and spend silly money again.
I have been a United fan since very early 80's, one thing I am happy about as a supporter through out that time is home grown talent the club has developed. Young Gomez 17 looks like a Star in the making who came on tonight.
Arsenal CAN spend stupid money, but are more reluctant to do so. Wenger like sticking to his principles, which have also hurt the club. There are plenty of "almost" cases, which could have been great signings. I think the Aubameyang transfer is an important one. You have a club that everyone knows want to sell, a club that don't like to spend money, but is given a great chance of seeing the deal through, and a Dortmund connection at the club already in Mkhitaryan and chief scout Mislintat – who brought Aubameyang to Dortmund!
Throw in that Arsenal have sold Walcott and Coquelin already this window, and have got Mkhitaryan in a swap deal. There should be money to spend for Wenger & Co.
United are at a good place right now. Mou is able to bring in big name signings, and can throw in a few youngsters in any competition. Even Luke Shaw looks to have won Mou over, which is good to see. Shaw looked like the target for frustration by Mou only a few months ago.
I saw an interview on ESPN with Gabriel Marcotti regarding this. According to him, the move is pushed by Aubameyang and his agents. Wenger's impression of the whole thing is supposed to be luke warm, as he is reportedly unsure of wether Aubameyang fits in or not. I don't know how trustworthy Marcotti is on the subject, but he is a very respected journalist.
Would Lacazette move to the wing if Abaumeyang arrives? With Özil behind and Miki on the right? How would they line up you think?
Might be the case, but Arsenal did send people down to Dortmund to negotiate. Either they are thinking beyond Wenger, or he's on board with the transfer.
Do think there's several way to play both Lacazette and Aubameyang (on paper that is):
- Aubameyang up front, with Lacazette, Mkhitaryan and Özil behind (sort of a 4-2-3-1 formation)
- Aubameyang and Lacazette up front together (possibly one a bit behind the other), with Özil behind in an AM role, and Mkhitaryan playing alongside Ramsey and Xhaka (4-3-1-2)
- Aubameyang and Lacazette up front along with Mkhitaryan (with Aubameyang in the middle), and Özil behind along Ramsey and Xhaka (4-3-3).
What do you think, @barryt007? Am I way off?
A midfield diamond with two strikers is probably the best solution. Reminds me of the days with Henry and Bergkamp and a midfield four...
Edit: My only concern would be that Ab and Lac are pretty similar playing style wise. They'd probably fit better alongside Giroud actually.
Sure miss Henry and Bergkamp. Would like to see them back at the club in some capacity.
I wonder about Giroud. Doesn't get regular playing time, and with a World Cup coming up, he needs to play. Really like him as a player, but it doesn't seem like Wenger want to play him.
Rodriguez with his second goal! Three minutes after his first! Wow!
Hardly as it was a fourth round F.A. Cup game, surely you know enough about football to know the CL final in in May.
VAR in heavy use!
West Brom scores again! VAR again, maybe?
…aaaaand it's a goal! This is crazy!
Salah makes it 2-3. This game is still on!
