Some quality thuggery from Panama in the first half. An efficient performance by England. Though I still have concerns on their defensive frailties.

The Eng v Bel should a good game.

The first real test for England will be their next game against Belgium. Could give us an indication of their skill.
They're looking pretty good so far.

Yes indeed. In the past though England would play their first 2 games and come out with 2 points maximum. This feels different.
I imagine England and Belgium will both be tempted to rest players. They may not of course but if they do we won’t get a real sense of which team is the best. I’m English but I think Belgium could be a real force in this WC.
Plus, I’ve got them in the sweep at work

Too bad - I expect better scores from now on! Glad to finally get points from James Rodriguez. He had a really god game against Poland.

Poland looked poor I think England will end up facing Columbia will be tricky if so.

Colombia showed Poland how the game of football is being played.

Japan and Senegal both made the last game of their poule look exciting.

Panama were so poor, they have nothing to offer to a decent football tournament.

If France and Sweden would kindly get tossed out of the tournament asap I would be happy person.

That might be a close match between the sides, if they meet each other. Great match for the neutral viewer, though!

I would be happy to see them both go through, haha! Sweden over Germany any day of the week after the way they behave at full-time…

the Swedes would have to justify their really poor excuse for Football and that does of course does not make those two Germans actions who misbehaved good in any sense or meaning. But overall those Swedes just did not play football they defended, if they spend overal more than 10% on the German side of the field it could be considered a lot.

So if you are in favor of football you will not miss Sweden, unless you are fan of Mourinho and in that case you just want to win and dislike people and football.

As for the French while I like their women I despise their football teams.

Do they have to justify anything? The argument regarding wanting to play football (or not) is a valid one, but at the end of the day, any team should play to their strengths. If that's defending for 90+ minutes, then winning 1-0 on the counter, then why not?

I'm no fan of Mourinho. The thing that bothers me about him is that he plays defensive football even if his team is good enough to dominate a match (with exceptions, of course). The Swedes will be up against better opposition in Germany and Mexico. Playing anything but the way they do, would be stupid. If the Swedes somehow find themselves going through the group stages, then that's a great achievement. Does that hurt the tournament in any way? I would say no.

I wish Arsenal (and on certain occasions Rosenborg) - the teams I support, could play "negative", defensive football more often. If Arsenal were capable of that, they wouldn't play the Europa League next season.

Well there have only been two German staff members who nobody knows and cares about who behaved in such a bad way. So it is a bit unfair to criticise the whole German team for unfair behaviour. Just think of how fair the German team was after the 7:1 victory over Brazil 4 years ago. At the same time, one can say that football is not the fairest sport on earth. Just think of how the Swedish delegation reacted after Boateng's foul. Everyone was shouting and demanding a red card which is certainly not a fair behaviour but quite normal in modern football.

Hm... I wonder why you don't make similar complaints when teams like Iceland and even Portugal do the same? Why are only the swedes to blame?

The Swedes & the French were in same qualification poule as the Dutch team, so why should I like them? ;)

As for Portugal there have been moments of me disliking their style and who can dislike Iceland even if their football is not that great, I have disliked them too after they chucked the Dutch out of a tournament.

As for this tournament I have yet to see a team that I really fancy winning, most of the teams have disappointing with a few great games in between.

But today begins the serious culling.

If you dislike everyone who has won against your home country recently you might dislike many countries. But there will be better times for your team to come :-)

Maybe, but that's the first time I've seen such behavior as the Germans did, in international football. Shouting, sure - but pathetic mocking from a late result? Man, that just shameful.

And the Swedes shouting for a red card? Well, Boateng should have got one earlier than when he did. No wonder they reacted.

I hear you! And Ronaldo missing that penalty was just because I transferred him in. Happens in Fantasy Premier League, too…

Portugal close to going out which would have not gone down well after that horrendous penalty decision. Iran so close to getting a winner

Fantasy games aside, Portugal going out would have been quite interesting. I feel this World Cup might have a few more surprises to come.

Not really. Ronaldo escaped a red card simply because of his name. No one would have felt like Portugal were robbed, far from it...

I think, the yellow card was the right decision. It was not a punch so yellow card was OK.

The penalty was the wrong decision in my eyes. Not even the Iranian players were asking for a penalty. It was a normal movement of the defender and he cannot completely hide his hand....

Maybe but, would you call it fair behaviour? And why is everyone so unforgiving? As far as I know the German officials said sorry to the Swedish delegation for the provocative behaviour. They even send the two officials off for the next match.

I am talking about the Portugal players and the crowd, they would have gone ballistic if Portugal had lost after that poor refereeing decision for the penalty.

They have already lost top spot and now face Uruguay in the 2nd round because of that stupid decision.
They must be totally pissed off.

Wouldn't call shouting at the ref for not giving a card fair behaviour, but you see that in every game. what you don't see is situations as the German officials did - that's just way over the line. Good thing they were sent off. People like that has nothing to do on the pitch side in tournaments like the World Cup.

Which is a good result for both teams, as both France and Denmark are through. Don't know who they'll face in the round of 16, but a Denmark goal would be interesting.
