    Argentina's team selection for once looks sensible today! Finally they have enough midfield players to give an ageing Mashcerano protection, a deep playmaker that can orchestrate play and two wide players that can provide width, runs in behind and can stretch play, all of which they have lacked earlier in the tournament. It might not be enough to beat France, but they might at least look like a team today. One can always hope...

    The program here doesnt even start until 2.30 GB time...30mins before kick off,so im buggered if i know the teams !

    But i know i want France to beat the Argies,no doubt about that.

    I know the English have a strange, petty relationship with Argentina, but I am sure supporting them against this boring french outfit! Argentina are a mess... but at least an unpredictable mess compared to Deschamp's predictable, soul less Football.

    It goes back to the Falklands War and has been there ever since.Its not petty,we lost a lot of good men defending our British islands and its inhabitants.

    Now that's a strike! And an incredibly important one! France cannot be allowed the luxury of playing without needing to score. Now they eventually have to take chances going forward and both teams, not only France, will get opportunities to strike while the opponent is not in perfect balance with men behind the ball.

    For the first time in the tournament, Argentina don't have to chase a result. Interesting to see how they will handle that.

    Because they needed an extra midfielder to combat France's strength on the counter. Not that it helped much...

    It will be an interesting game. Two of the most similar teams in the tournament, both basically designed for a knock out system with physically strong players with high stamina, well drilled in a defensive team unit, but with clinical goal scorers up front. Uruguay have been the better team so far in this tournament, but that was in group games against teams they were expected to beat and to take initiativ against organized defences. Both teams are better suited to sit behind and let the other team ductate the play (what Argentina should have done but where incapable of doing). France today showed how much a different game scenario can change a performance. We might se the same effect on Uruguay or Portugal. I expect a dull affair between two catious, patient teams where small details might be decisive. My money is on Uruguay to get there in the end.

    Not that confident, but I hope Uruguay will win this one. Even if they are similar in many ways, I rather have the one without Ronaldo and Pepe progress, haha! If Portugal progress, I can just see them going all the way to the final, winning with a late goal. That wouldn't surprise me one bit.

    I think France with an in form Mbappe would get the better of them this year. And Brazil should be much better in a semifinal... Something different to Poland and Wales...
