That one was used only for a year (in those colours) wasn't it?
In the colours there yep,it went back to the red and white one after, but all of these are a lot better than the latest one.
There were genuine reasons for a new crest back in 2002, it looks like:
"The Club’s identity has thus evolved over the years and the decision to formulate a new crest in 2002 was two-fold. Firstly, as the VCC crest incorporated many separate elements introduced over a number of years, there was uncertainty surrounding its exact origination. Consequently, the Club was unable to copyright the crest.
Secondly, it had always been one of the Club’s primary objectives to embrace the future and move forward. With Emirates Stadium on the horizon and the Gunners consistently challenging for domestic and European honours, the Club believed it was the ideal time to introduce a new crest."
Indeed.
The copyright issue was always annoying and weird.
Yeah, wonder what the "uncertainty surrounding its exact origination" was all about.
Before records were kept,Arsenal is such an old club.
That's true of course!
The first Chelsea crest was quite different from what they have today:
Would be a quite different crest to have in 2018!
Edit: here's Newcastle United's crest from 1983-1988, and Blackpool's one from 1979-1987. A bit different, one might say!

_____________
Glenn Murray with his fifth goal of the season in Brighton's win over West Ham. Only Hazard has scored more (6).
Good if true... Jose position untenable. I backed him until tipping point. West Ham was tipping point. Dressing room lost unfortunately.
We'll know soon enough. Mirror have been wrong before!
If the United hiarchy don't act during the International break then its a joke.
It's good timing if they decide to do it, that's for sure. But again, it doesn't need to take more than that for a newspaper to base a story upon. Several transfer rumours this summer comes to mind. No doubt this will be the focus on every PL based football coverage tomorrow.
True though Jose needs to go its over, I'll respect the club if they can be clinical and try to move on from this mess.
Conte is available, isn't he?
Read a few articles... If the sacking is true the way its been handled is poor.
I suspect Zidane will get the job
Wonder if he want to get back to management again so soon. No doubt they'll have candidates to choose from.
"Hello, Mr. Woodward?"
Noooooooo lol
Haha, won't happen surely! :))
One can always hope ;)
He’d tighten things up at the back.
That's true!
Is this a manager issue, or a players issue? Or is it a club structure / organisation issue?
Not an object you expect to be thrown onto the pitch… :))
All three from my point of view. I certainly don't think Jose's handling of the situation is good though...
Shelvey not too far from scoring either. Bailly off for Mata now.
