  • They are two different demographics. Teenage girls will watch Twilight, while men and boys will watch Skyfall. Will it get topped as a No. 1? Probably. But it won't lose that much money.

I think Skyfall can do it. It's the big 50, the hype is huge, and after such a long wait people NEED Bond. It will gross big, maybe the biggest ever in the franchise, and at the end of the day it will be the overall better film than a hormone, vampire, and werewolf filled crapfest.

I think there may be a fair bit of business for guys peeling off to watch SF whilst their girls go to watch vampires.

Titanic opened aganist TND and Bond did fine.

Twilight is no threat. Different audience. Bond should do boffo opening weekend box-office. SF should be the no-brainer weekend date flick.

I wouldn't be too worried about this. SF is going to get its biggest chunk of revenue in its first week.

70 Mill again? QOS was very frontloaded, as expectations after CR were huge. Now after QOS - what will it be, you guys thing?

Overall, I believe Twilight will beat Skyfall in both opening weekend figures and total domestic figures...quite easily I might add. Just look at those astonishing opening weekends for Breaking Dawn and New Moon. (Christ, New Moon's opening weekend made nearly as much as QOS did in it's entire domestic theatrical run)

    http://www.boxofficemojo.com/search/?q=twilight

Every Twilight has easily beaten the highest grossing Bond film domestically (QOS), so I don't think this occasion will be any different. As far as total (domestic and international) grosses go, the competition will be a little closer...but ultimately (and unfortunately) I think Twilight will edge Skyfall out. Breaking Dawn Part 1 was able to rake up $700 million dollars total...the closest any James Bond film has ever come to that is CR's $594 million. The want for Part 2 will be pretty immense, and I wouldn't be surprised if Part 2 broke the $800 million mark. As history would put it, Twilight will win.

    -HOWEVER-

Skyfall will do just fine overall. I think it'll scoop roughly $180 million to $190 million domestically and around $650-675 million worldwide. I think it will be a very profitable film, and the most successful Bond film to date (monetarily). Funnily enough, the more recent Bond films (DAD, CR, QOS) have not done SPECTACULARLY domestically. Quantum of Solace didn't even make it's mammoth $200 million dollar budget back in the States. And CR and DAD made just $20 million over their respected budgets (give or take). It is the international audience that has kept Bond going, no doubt.

I feel, with Hunger Games probably taking over the TL fans, its gonna be the least succssful over the series. People are starting to get a bit tires of the vampires IMNO. We'll see - its still gonna be big, but not huge...

Traditionally long gaps have always meant big bucks for the Bond series. CR, GE, and TSWLM all had longer than usual gaps between releases and all did very well. Whenever Bond is away for an extended period of time the series comes back in a big way.

Bond and Twilight don't exactly have the same market. Won't be competing for fans.
  • Viewers are too complete different groups.......Skyfall might not be number 1 but it will be more like by reviewers...not everything is about money

one way of looking at it is you take your other half for a romantic meal say you are going to the cinema. Buy 2 tickets one for her and one for you. You go to watch Skyfall and she can watch the chick flick. You both come out of the cinema happy bunnies. :x

SF will do well for two reasons:

    1. The long gap. People will be pleased to welcome Bond back after the 4 year wait.
    2. Most of the public like Daniel Craig.

Yes, especially the ladies. I can assure you parts of the pool scene will feature during the trailers to reel in women of all ages. Bond will make money no doubt about it. SF's main priority is to be an excellent film and everyone involved is saying that's exactly what it will be; even going as far as to say it'll be better than CR.

Another thing. What is it with DC walking round topless in his Bond movies a lot? It's like they know that will attract the ladies and annoy us men.

I'm sure it will do over $600 million around the world, unless it get's poor reviews which might knock it down a bit!
  • edited April 2012 Posts: 11,189
Poor reviews won't stop it from doing well. The Transformers films, Pirates of the Carabiean 2 and 3 did well.

Even QoS, which got very mixed reviews overall did extremely well.

It annoys you?? If anything it encouraged me to get in shape and get cut rather quickly and now I'm all the better for it. Besides, Craig's not topless for long. Connery went topless in every Bond film apart from GF I think and he was topless a lot longer than Craig has been.

Indeed and Titanic did well..... Titanic in the BO.

If Bond23 offers quality the customers will come no matter of the competition.

Connery was topless a couple of times in Miami in GF too.

SF is gonna be amazing and will destroy CR and QOS. It will surely earn 600 million atleast.

Skyfall losing money to Twilight? Very unlikely IMO. Their target demographic couldn't be more different.

    Pretty much spot on!

Since SF is celebrating 50 years of Bond films, it´s time to do what DAD did - include references to the older movies. This should be done by in part by bringing back gadgets like Q-cars, Q-boats, Q-watches and Little Nellie. JW Pepper, Jaws and Nick Nack should do cameos. Ok, perhaps not Nick Nack, since Herve is dead, but atleast the others.

include references to the older movies.

Maybe one or two subtle ones but not an entire movie of them.. Please!!

Besides QoS already did that with references to GF amd TSWLM.

Daniel Craig and JW Pepper, could be one of the most bizarre pairings in cinema history!

Bond should steal a boat, the way he did in QOS, to follow someone. In that same boat is JW Pepper sitting, and he screams to the other boats in the same manner as in TMWTGG (things like "Move it, get that piece of jug out of the way " and "let´s go get them, boy"). That would be a great reference and every single Bond fan would love it!
And then Bond should make the spiral jump, but with the boat. Pepper screams and says "I have done that before". Bond answers "So have I, actually". That stunt would have been done for real and the loop sound would return also.

And Javier Bardem should threaten the world with a massive satellite laser!

As much as some would love to see good ol' JW and his comb over flying at high speed during vehicle related hi-jinx, I think "every single Bond fan would love it" is slightly overstating it!
But I do include myself in the one's who would love to see it!
