Total Recall (2012)

I saw a trailer for the remake of 1990's Total Recall. this one stars Colin Farrell in the Arnold role, Kate Beckingsale as the bitch Sharon Stone role, and Jessica Biel as the "good girl".
I must say, I don't think I will spend the 8-10 dollars for a ticket.
I can't believe that it has been more than two decades since the original.
I liked the original, (thought Predator is Arnold's best film) it was smart, and very good. Kinda over the top with violence but an enjoyable film.

So Colin Farrel has gone to doing remakes, he recently did a remake of Fright Night (it sucked) and Hollywood continues to do stupid remakes, comic book bunk and whine about the lack of good material.

Anyone plan on seeing this or are you planning on staying away?

    I liked the original, but I must say: the remake looks pretty cool as well. Originally, I was against it, but then I just figured it's not really a remake, just a retelling of the story originated by Philip Dick's We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.

    And Farrell has been doing remakes and adaptations since forever: Daredevil, Miami Vice, S.W.A.T,

    It's not a remake, it has a technicall term. It's sorta like True Grit and Casino Royal in two films with the Same name, based on the same book but take different approches in how they adapt the book.

    Which is why I'm all the more mad that they call it Total Recall again. Is this film even set on Mars? I mean, Verhoeven's film shouldn't be remade, it's good enough as it is. A re-imagining of Dick's story is a good idea though but then at least change the title. I suppose the title has a lot of advertising potential. ;-) That always does it, doesn't it?

    I haven't seen a trailer yet but when I first heard about it I wasn't happy. I'll try to reserve judgement until I see the trailer.

    Okay. This looks like a total rip-off. Scenes lifted directly from the original movie. They just gave it a new cgi - makeover. Do they even go to Mars? I think they will. The scenes in this trailer were all lifted from the original. I have read some of Philip K. Dick's books. Not sure if I read 'We Can Remember It For You Wholesale', but I think this is not an adaptation from that book, but a scene by scene (although with flashy cgi and slow-motion) remake of the movie that took some inspiration from Dick's book.

    I wonder how Robocop will turn out. Another Verhoeven film receiving a remake.

    It was originally supposed to come out in 2010 before the whole MGM mess and it was once supposed to be directed by Darren Aronofsky.

    I saw the original Recall on it's original release over 20 years ago, and Verhoeven has the ability to make some really nasty, messy, but entertaining movies from what I've seen. But why another damn remake?, Is it really necessary, that's what they're doing now it seems week in week out, instead of leaving some fine pieces of cinema alone they have to go and make some more damn remakes, it's getting a bit out of hand sometimes I strongly feel. The original was bloody comic book action with Schwarzenegger and I don't think whatever they do they'll be able to top what we first saw. And they're going to try again with another Verhoeven masterpiece in Robocop and remake that ?, the 2nd and 3rd were awful, but the original was an epic piece of film, and now they want to mess around with that, I almost feel so angry now I've lost the power of rational thought, best to stop there, but not really pleased about this

    Films that did well at the box office are often cynically remade or reimagined, Just to make money off the back of interest from the public. Originality certainly for mainstream movie's seems to have dried up, it would make more sense to me to remake a film that had good idea's that were made into poor movie's. Paycheck a movie based on a Phillip k. Dick story comes to mind.

    I have to say i really enjoyed the original and have found it hard to understand why they need to do a remake? Not seen the trailor yet? Perhaps it may change mind?

    When I first heard that they were remaking a great movie I was mad, but after seeing the remakes trailer I'm looking forward to it!

    Everything gets remade eventually.

    If its any consolation Kate Beckinsale is in it. That woman just gets more and more ridiculously attractive as she gets older.

    They are films I will make sure never get remade. I will be the Tank Man of film-remake protection.

    Arnie is so overrated.

    This looks good as far as the setting is concerned, although Dredd may even have cooler cityscapes.
    But what Farrell does looks very much like Bourne. I totally don´t recall that from the Verhoeven film.

    And I totally don´t understand how one can mention Beckinsale when Jessica Biel is on board.

    Nope.

    I will watch it soon, as well as finally watch the original 1957 film... I'll tell you if the loose remake is worth seeing :) But I am always fascinated by Russian culture.
