It was the Czechoslovakian Army. They were evil communists in kahoots with the Russian villains.

Depnds on which car chase LRS is talking about. If it's the first one, then it was the British Army.

The Aston Martin chase. Because all of sudden it was the one cop car that was sliced by the laser, then boom tanks and artillery trying to blow them up.

I love the Dalton films but yeah that's one part I found hilarious. It escalated pretty damn quickly.

This might be stupid but why does Bond say "Funny you should say that..." In Thunderball after hitting the alarm? Also is he being cheeky when he tells the girl about the alarm being the front door or is he serious?

The girl says "haven't you had enough exercise for one night" which prompts the "it's funny you should say that" retort.

He's clearly being facetious with the girl who doesn't know what a fire alarm is.

In Moonraker, why does Jaws bite the cable car wire?

I always took it that he thought that it would make the cable car fall off the wire and Bond would plunge to his death. Jaws is not the brightest bulb on the tree, but I may be wrong.

True but why is what Bond replies ironic?

At the end of the poker game in Casino Royale, Bond allows Felix and the CIA to take in Le Chiffre. I understand that Bond and Felix made a deal, with Felix giving Bond his buy-in to get back into the game, but how does that work? Wasn't MI6 trying to get Le Chiffre? Why didn't Bond get in trouble with MI6? That's the part I don't understand.

Better some agency grabs him than Le Chiffre just walking free. It's implied in CR/QOS that the CIA and MI6 share info anyway. Remember, before Felix intervened, Bond's master Plan B was to grab a knife and stab him! By that point, Bond just wanted to see him defeated, even if it wasn't MI6 that benefits from it.

Mi6 couldn't get LeChiffre at that point because Bond had lost. Felix gave him the money on the condition that if he won, "the CIA bring him in"

No, Pam is angry with Bond for setting the fire alarm off and causing mayhem. She says 'haven't you had enough exercise for one night?' meaning Bond has already had his fun with Pam, so why does he need to be causing this mayhem as well?
Bond says 'Funny you should say that', meaning he's ready to have her again.

In the GoldenEye novelization, Bond mentions to "have reason to hate [Cuba]" because of a woman [who may never walk again]". Is this a reference to a Gardner book? If so, I don't want anything more than a simple "yes". Thank you very much.

Question about the blu ray 50th anniversary set. Does it include the documentaries that were part of the 2006 box sets (the four boxes)? Does it include the deleted scenes?

This may deserve its own thread, but I thought I'd ask here first: when did the "my Bond girl is a different kind of Bond girl-shes Bond's equal!" trope start? Actresses have been saying it as long as I can remember.

I think perhaps Tracy in On Her Majesty's Secret Service. I think I remember hearing it from Anya Amasova, too.

Edit: I just heard Pussy Galore say it.

Yes, Tracy was the first. "This Bond girl is different. She has style and class."

In AVTAK Bond asks Tibbett to call M and put a trace on the check Zorin wrote Stacy. Did Tibbett ever end up calling M to trace the check before he was killed? I assume he did since Bond went to San Fransisco where Stacy lived. I just want to make sure because if Tibbett was calling M to trace the check wouldn't May Day have stopped him from calling M?

What does Q say to Bond in DAF over the phone? It sounds like "He killed one of the guards on the way off to London." But that doesn't make sense.

@Last_Rat_Standing I think he says that Peter Franks fellow has escaped, killed one of the guards on the way up to London.

I think he means when the guard was taking him to London for questioning he killed him and then made his way to Amsterdam.

When Q introduces R in TWINE was that always going to be Desmond's last film, or did it just happen to be because of his car accident? It just seems like he goes out so perfectly.

That last scene....always have an escape plan...always waters my eyes.

I just love him so much like a father and he would be 101 years old now, imagine that.

I'm sure it was his farewell, it was written that way and him "escaping" as his last scene is so full of symbolism.

According to his Wikipedia page (obviously not reliable), he had no plans on retiring and he would return as long as the producers wanted him and the Almighty didn't (his words). Still, there's something eerie and very emotional about his exit in TWINE, with it being his last film due to the car accident.

This would seem to support that theory.

He was doing a non- Bond film.

As far as I recall Desmond was going to keep playing Q until he no longer could or the almighty decided otherwise. I believe from TND onwards it was filmed with the intent that this could be Desmond's final film. If we hadn't lost the great man in 1999, then I'm sure he would've been back for DAD.
Was a very fitting and emotional farewell to a much loved actor and character.

There's no way that TWINE was intended aa anything other than his final film. His final scene makes that absolutely clear.

What are the shortest/longest films in terms of time-span? Not counting the PTS's as GE could win hands down with 9 years, but from after the opening credits to the end.
