@MayDayDiVicenzo, since I have you here, even if the bomb goes off in OP, and NATO goes forth with unilateral disarmament (a stretch), does it follow that Orloff will be able to consolidate enough power to start a war against the West?

I would assume so- Orlov explains to the committee that his tank divisions on the Russian border and Czechoslovakia would be sufficient and that they are ready, and can withstand, any counterattack from NATO. Thus, couple this with nuclear disarmament, then that leaves Russia able to walk right across the border and invade Western Europe.

In SF's climax, how the heck does Silva expect his henchmen to kill Bond but save M for himself by riddling Skyfall with bullets from helicopter gunfire and tossing grenades through the windows?

Then again, most of the rest of his set-up is quite sophisticated. I'm surprised that at the final stretch of his self-ordained mission of vengeance he would go mental like that.

The emotions likely were catching up with him clouding his judgement......the target was in sight and he finally was going to get what he'd been dreaming about for years. I love the look on his face when he turns around after getting knifed and sees Bond.
  • I'm having a bit of trouble understanding the continuity of the films. So, with Casino Royale being the reboot, is EON saying that they other films (Connery-Brosnan) never occurred? Or is it safe to assume that some of these adventures occurred after the events of Quantum of Solace, at some point - or have yet to take place yet?

I can accept that explanation. Still, it's a little on the sloppy side, in my opinion, for someone that was so on top of things for the entirety of the movie.

I totally agree with your comment about the look on his face when he sees Bond.

There is no explanation other than that the writing is just awful and stupid, especially in the last act of Skyfall, which has some of the most cringe-worthy moments ever in any Bond movie.

:)) He seems more annoyed that his planned failed than anything. Face was like: "Geesh. Thanks. How am I going to kill her now?"

    If looks could swear......

Agree it was sloppy though, as was the laughable flashlight...

Because US currency was, at that time, linked to their gold supply/the gold standard (which is still almost entirely housed at Fort Knox). To devalue the gold (in this case by irradiating it) would have sent America's economy into a tailspin, Europe would get sucked into the vortex and so on.

Thanks for explaining now it is much more clear.

One shouldn't worry about continuity when it comes to Bond. It's like asking whether there are two jokers, since both Michael Keaton and Christian Bale's batmen had to fight him.

Which was the biggest Mi6 screwup?

    *Koskov abduction [TLD]
    *King assassination [TWINE]
    *Building explosion [SF]

Not firing Q on the spot in SF after he failed miserably at his job.
Not sending M (Dench) to retirement after DAD.

Can I jump in here and ask that we continue to use this thread for the reasons it was designed?
It is a thread for fans to ask genuine questions about aspects to the series they need clarity on.
Which was the biggest Mi6 screwup?

    *Koskov abduction [TLD]
    *King assassination [TWINE]
    *Building explosion [SF]

This just invites members to stand on their soap boxes to offer well worn opinions.
This is just so newer members understand how some of the threads work here.

    Thanks

It looks like one shot every few seconds. Plus the end of Skyfall is missing.

I agree with you, @NickTwentyTwo! Think of the black and white intro with the Technicolor opening credits. That would be beautiful.
  • Does someone have any experience on waiting outside the cinema before a Bond-premier? When to go to get a good place? Where to stand? Things like that.

A lot of cinemas may work differently, but the Alamo Drafthouse that I attend has four separate line setups for the bigger releases that start allowing you to line up early. I saw SF at midnight and started lining up at 9:30 PM. They let you in about 45 minutes to an hour before the showing, so first in line gets first pick in seats.

Thanks, but I was talking about the big premiere in London ;)
  • What did Bond mean when he called Moneypenny "Britain's last line of defense" in OHMSS? Was it because she was so dedicated to her job that she turned him down?

Speaking of which, Moneypenny turning Bond down for a date in OHMSS made no sense. She was practically gagging for Bond in every previous film. I understand Lazenby isn't as charming as Connery but the movie isn't supposed to know that, haha.
