Not a bad theory. I guess no one really knows for sure, other than Craig being a reboot.
I've heard snippets of Music from the 2005 FRWL videogame used in those murder recreation mystery shows as well as a scene from the recent Dumb and Dumber 2 film.
He doesn't. It doesn't make a damn bit of sense and there's no explanation for it.
Do people also wonder whether Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock Holmes is a "different" Sherlock Holmes from Sir Arthur Doyle's? It seems like a fairly absurd exercise in futility.
CR was just that -- a reboot.
Any continuity from pre-CR movies has been ignored and from CR onward, the timeline is a completely new one. Bond never married Tracy, never encountered SPECTRE or Blofeld (until SP possibly), never encountered Dr No, Goldfinger, Emilio Largo etc. One surmises that this is now all yet still to come.
:)
LOL! As well, some of those months would have been secretly relocating to Cuba, and the gene therapy surgeries. :))
Well, my thoughts are
If you take a life, do you know what you'll give
Odds are, you won't like what it is - in the film Bond is killing for the first time, he feels the kills (mirror scene). Again M telling him he has to be more as bond puts it "half hit man half monk".
When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me
By the merciless eyes I've deceived - Vesper Deceives Bond
I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line Expresses Bonds feelings after learning of Vesper's deceit. She was not what he thought she was, she was no angel after all (obviously he did not learn of her reasons until QOS)
Arm yourself because no-one else here will save you
The odds will betray you And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize; it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you
Are you willing to die
- The line works because of the films poker scenes with it course being about what odds the other player has of holding a higher hand. Again about Vesper she stole the prize money and ends up dead.
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name This also works because Mr White at the end asks Bond who he is.
If you come inside, things will not be the same
When you return to my night
If you think you've won
You never saw me change
The game that we have been playing Bond let Vesper in, then Bond changes forever at end of Casino due to the events. Vesper of course never saw him change because she's dead and her that caused the change.
I've seen diamonds cut through harder men
Than you yourself
but if you must pretend
You may meet your end - Diamonds of course being a suit in a game of cards. This I expect is directed toward Le Chiffre. Often felt in the film the straight flush should have been from the diamond suit which would have linked it to this lyric perfectly
Try to hide your hand
Forget how to feel
Life is gone with just a spin of the wheel
A spin of the wheel - Again paints pictures of the film, the hand reference being concealing your card hand in poker. The Spin of the wheel, the spectacular Aston Martin crash.
Just my thoughts, of course open to interpretation.
I do however like the M explanation that's puts a very interesting twist on it.
Hmmm...some very interesting takes on the song. Thank you.
I found a gorgeous series of pictures (120 images) whilst googling and want to share them with you if you haven't had the good fortune to see them.
I've saved them onto photobucket in case they're withdrawn off the original website:

Theses are immense and really Bond 'automotive pornography' and excellent material for a great desktop picture! Which one of the 120 though!?
The dialogue exchange between Bond and Carver at the Hamburg launch party is fun for the obvious double entendres, but strategically, why does Bond make it so painfully obvious that he's on to Carver's scheme? I feel that indirectly leads to Paris' death shortly thereafter, making it an even more dunderheaded move. Fun, but stupid.

Newly renamed!
These Bond specific shots of the DB5 are stunning and I don't mind sharing thumbnails to keep the length of the thread from being too lengthy if you think that'd be OK? I realise the link to the author site is posted already but keeping them all in one thread seems a nice way to appreciate the fabulous DB5. I'm planning to get a bit more time to read into what the back story is behind this specific car but I'm up to my neck in personal work and don't want it running into tomorrow evening for obvious reasons!! :D
I have a fan compiled "Expanded" edition soundtrack of QOS and this was on it. I don't know if Arnold composed this but It is quite nice and Bondian.

I mean, after all, she was 79. I highly doubt the Double-O section would let her go on until 90.
After seven movies though, maybe it was time for change.
She was moved on to accommodate Mendes vision of M, Ralph Fiennes and to freshen things up. Dame Judi's tenure at the top of MI6 in the films was 17 years, all though some will argue she is not the same M. Skyfall's whole story is about her failings, the point is people like Dame Judi's M , Olivia Mansfield. They do not retire, their job is their life, she is a representation of the old British stiff upper lip, like great warriors they would rather fall on their sword. I think they gave Dame Judi a deserved ending rather than have Mallory and the intelligence committee retire her with honours despite leaving the department as she put it "A worst place than when I found it".
Worth noting though, that Mr Mallory actually takes A demotion to take over as M.
