Do we have another XX chromosome on MI6??
IMO Brozza was unquestionably the worst Bond - I hated his performance from the first 5 minutes of sitting down to watch GE in the cinema and he never really improved in the role. That said, I enjoyed watching him in other stuff and even thought he's been quite good on occassion - Tailor of Panama and the The Ghost Writer being cases in point.
DC is a far superior Bond though.
The other two? Not at all.
I prefer Craig despite the fact that Brosnen was born to play the role. But he got some rum scripts + he didn't bring anything to the table, he played Bond as an action figure with a sense of humor ala Moore. But they all have their moments.
DC is all Bond, with a capital "B"....... :-B
I agree that Craig is Bond, but Bond with a capital B? He might be after SF. Brosnan is Bond with a capital B IMO.
...which is what keeps us all going on and on and on about our own opinions!! :D
But IMO, PB was a bit camp/wet!? And still a bit bitter at his demise from the role!? :-B
PB was wet, gurning and boring.
Well he obviously had an effect on you. You clearly find him so memorable you bitch, whine and moan about him in every single post and have him as an avatar ;)
OMG, what a great post. I agree fully.
How insulting to all the hillbillies who frequently attend casino's.
^^^This. I get that you hate Brosnan @Getafix but you don't have to keep reminding us by bashing him in every post. Some of us liked his version of Bond.
As long as I keep on seeing stuff like this I will feel it's my responsibility to call people up on it. Brosnan is obviously Bond with a capital BS.
You can't just think "well, that's their opinion" and leave it. If somebody disagrees with your view on Brosnan you just HAVE to reply with some petty comment about how crap he was? You spend more time on here bashing the Brosnan than you do praising the Bond's you do like.
Very true, and I have shed loads of work that needs doing. Basically Brosnan bashing is a way of avoiding doing work. But that decade left deep, deep scars and laying into him here is one way for me to come to terms with that past.
He did what he could, people wanted him as Bond and he tried his best (with what fairly limited talent he had) to deliver.
He had his faults but it sounds like the main problem lies with you, not with him.
I for one think that, during his era, we had one of the most entertaining, re-watchable films of the series. GE is not only my most watched Bond film. Its quite possibly my most watched FILM of all time - I'm not joking.
The film that Graham Rye slated in that article you posted?
I agree Brozza did the best he could. It's just that that wasn't good enough.
That said, the stories, scripts, casting and directing in his films is often like a train wreck, so I don't think that any one could ever have made them classics. However, a good actor in the role might have redeemed them slightly. Dalton in GE might have made it watchable. TND is actually the least bad of the Brosnan era, so I'll lay off that one. TWINE deserved a better performance from Bond and I completely blame Brosnan for dropping the ball on that one. DUD was dire. A late Connery performance in that film would have been VERY amusing.
Yes. Rye was wrong ;)
GE is more than watchable as it is. I'm watching it as I type this in fact.
This is an Empire review from 1995:
http://www.empireonline.com/reviews/review.asp?FID=133389
This is the best bond movie since On Her Majesty's Secret Service
That review was written by Kim Newman - someone who knows their Fleming/Bond.
TND was OK. It had its moments but was too reliant on action/cheese
TWINE was average. It had some good scenes and suffered from poor writing but at least deserves credit for trying.
DAD was indeed pretty dire but again had some good scenes. Brosnan was one of the best things in it.
There's people on here who know their Bond but through an utterly insuperable mountain of love for their Bond they can't admit their faults, and therefore are not being completely truthful because they are blinded by their love of the man. I'm pretty sure Kim doesn't have a degree in James Bond. She can be just as aimless as many I've run into.
The idea that GE trumps OHMSS is laughable.
BAIN, it is worth remembering when reading these advertising rags like Empire that their job is to promote films. They are rarely critical because that way the whole pyramid of advertising and film promotion would collapse. Basically, they print utter nonsense to keep the advertisers sweet.
Why make a bold statement like that though if you don't like it?
Also, if your going to say "this is the best Bond film since..." why pick OHMSS?
I agree OHMSS is a great film but in the eyes of the public it's a "forgotten" movie - at least compared to GF, TSWLM YOLT etc.
Also @0Brady, was that a less than subtle dig at me by any chance? ;)
For the record Kim Newman is a man.
My top 5 is currently this:
From Russia with Love
On her Majestys Secret Service
Goldfinger
Casino Royale
Goldeneye
Spy is number 6 and OP is number 7.
GE at least has a more animated Bond girl than Barbara "HOW...INTERESTING" Bach. ;)
which is why you have an image of him as your avatar :P
Eh ? She said that GE is the best *BOND* film since OHMSS.... which is entirely up to her personal taste. She isn't wrong or crazy, just stating her personal views.
No one here is saying that GE is a masterpiece of a flawless film... but as a BOND movie, it is one of the best for many people.
