Just curious (Bond actors opinions on their successors)

We all know what George thought of Pierce Brosnan- has he mentioned Daniel Craig yet?
Come to think of it, I'm curious as to what all the former James Bonds think of the current chap?
I hear Roger Moore loved Casino Royale; Timothy Dalton likes Daniel I hear- but that's all I've heard. I'm more curious about Lazenby's opinion though- simply because he so famously feuded Brosnan

    I belive all formers have shown their support for Craig and have liked what's he done as Bond so far, even Lazenby.

    Apparently Rog wasn't as keen on Quantum though:

    (Craig is a) "damn good Bond but the film as a whole, there was a bit too much flash cutting [and] it was just like a commercial of the action. There didn't seem to be any geography and you were wondering what the hell was going on."

    I read that the two "allegedly" had a spat a few years ago but where does it actually say what Laz thought of Brosnan as Bond?

    I've seen the second quote already but not the first.

    As for the "feminine side", George is a fine one to talk - the first Bond to actually go all soppy over a woman ;)

    Going soppy over a chick is not a feminine side, is it? I know tons of manly men who go soppy.... it's what makes the world go 'round.

    I sort of see where George is coming from, concerning GoldenEye, at least. Pierce seemed to be 'GQ-ing' it up a bit in his first one, what with his perfect hair and pouty supermodel face. And his voice is definitely a bit more feminine (high and soft) than what we've been used to. He gradually got out of that though- check out a pic of him from GoldenEye and then in Die Another Day and you'll see what I mean.

    You know one person I'm sure I haven't heard from was Pierce Brosnan on Daniel Craig. I seem to remember him being a bit irked at being replaced as Bond after DAD. Wonder if there are hard feelings?

    You can tell he is still somewhat bitter but he seems to try and put a brave face on.

    Oh that reminds me- I remember an older interview with Roger Moore (around 1995) concerning what he thought of Dalton's movies and his response was something along the lines of 'I must be honest- I haven't seen them, and for good reason: to avoid those types of questions!'
    Surely he's seen them now though, right?? Especially since he likes Craig so much!

    In all honesty I'm not sure Moore would have liked LTK if he saw it. He always said he felt Bond became TOO violent during HIS time in the role. His films are pretty tame compared to LTK.

    As for Dalton himself, who knows.

    When Dalton took on the Connery, Connery said "I've not worked with Tim, but I know he'll be a good Bond", or words to that effect.

    On the tongue-in-cheek tone shift when Roger Moore took over:
    For me, it’s too flippant in the sense of humour. In For Your Eyes Only, they spoiled a lot of very good sequences for the sake of a couple of very cheap jokes. In the beginning there’s a great sequence with Roger going around in a helicopter being remote-controlled by Blofeld. But then to throw it away with a pay-off like picking up Blofeld and dropping him down a chimney gets a cheap laugh – and credibility goes out the window. That’s the direction it’s gone in – one that I don’t appreciate.


    On other actors who have played Bond:
    Timothy Dalton has Shakespearean training, but he underestimated the role. The character has to be graceful and move well and have a certain measure of charm as well as be dangerous. Pierce Brosnan’s a good actor. He’s added some new elements to it.

    I wish I had a link, but I know Brosnan contradicted himself. When CR was first released I remember a quote from him saying that he thought CR was the best Bond film yet, but he was still proud of the work he contributed to the series. A few years later he came out and said that he never saw CR except for bits while he was on an airplane. I also remembering seeing a paparazzi photo of Brosnan and his kids from either late 08 or early 09 where they were in front of a theater showing QoS. It was suggested that they were leaving the theater but there was no real proof of that.

    You're probably right about LTK- but surely he would have liked TLD... after all, it was almost made for him! And it's not like Roger was bitter about being kicked out of the role-- he left on his own!

    I'm sure, by 1985, that Moore would have been happy to be shown the door - and not be playing Bond into his 60's.

    This board has shown me something awesome recently: that commercial by Timothy Dalton from 1995 where he's a very Bond-like character.
    If I remember right, Dalton publicly announced he wouldn't be back in 93 or 94. Is it possible that by 1995 he may have regretted his decision? Wonder what Dalton thinks of GoldenEye

    April 11, 1994 is the date Dalton officially announced he was stepping down from the role. Damn shame, too. Would definitely be interesting to hear Dalton's candid thoughts on GoldenEye.

    The one thing I remember about an actor saying was when Dalton got the part. Connery said (before filming on TLD had started) that "Tim is a very good actor" but the one piece of advice he'd give him on playing Bond was "too get a damn good lawyer".

    Are there any non-bitter former Bonds? ;-)

    Just Sir Roger, it seems. Although, Dalton doesn't really seem bitter about any of it, either.

    What a shame, him being my favorite.

    I can't provide a link, but I remember an interview of Dalton during Brosnan's tenure where he said something like: 'I was driving along one day and saw a James Bond Billboard with pictures of Connery, Moore, and Brosnan- and not me--- and I felt free as a bird!'

    Yes I've seen those shots before and love them!! Looking at the other choices, it's easy to see why Lazenby got the part! I can't help but think that That Campbell guy would have been decent.... although his headshot reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite when the girl had Uncle Rico pose ever so perfectly for the photo, lol

    Yup, only two look the part and one of those was GL.

    Looking at a couple of the other 5 contenders it does make you wonder what the quality of the other 395 candidates was like.

    Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but the 'less important Bond movie' thread really got me thinking:
    Has Sean Connery ever seen OHMSS-- and what did he think?
    Has he ever discussed that in any of his interviews? I mean I would have hoped he at least checked it out, if nothing else but to have a handle on where the Bond character is after his absence, you know what I mean? Or maybe the Directer just sat Sean down and said 'look in the last Bond movie, you got married and she died right away, so keep that in mind when we film, got it?' lol
    Looking at DAF, I doubt they even did that much!

    I'm curious about his opinion of all of the movies as well-- I know for a fact he saw GoldenEye and liked it.

    Brozza seems to have a hair up in butt re Bond. I guesss being the only Bond who was actually let go [fired] I can understand why. But its been 10 years since his last outing. He should let it go. (And Sean should too)

    I do feel a bit bad for Dalton in some ways. I wonder if he regrets leaving. He deserved a third movie. GE? Not sure because if we had Dalton, I doubt we'd have had Bean, Scorupco or even Frankie.

    I'm sure in hindsight Dalton may well have regretted at some stage his decision to leave, but with the ongoing legal disputes after LTK, I can appreciate his frustrations and wanting to step down, I would of liked to have seen him in more releases, he would of been nearing 50 years of age though by the time Goldeneye came around so then again he may have been a little old for it, but still capable I feel. It's a case of what might have been but Brosnan did do a fine job of it in his debut performance

    ah come on Brosnan and Dalton still look good for their ages currently- probarly better than Moore during a View to a kill- i mean if you saw Pierce in The Ghost Writer- he still looks like Bond and Dalton did a great job as a spy in Chuck

    I realise this was mentioned nearly a year ago - but i've never seen this commercial - is it still online somewhere?
