Fair enough, but I do think you're right in that this isn't the place to discuss such matters.Maybe there should be an own thread for it, but I guess the days of political discussion on these boards have gone. So as I said, I'll leave this room for you girls to make it your own again.

I think, it was a good topic, but its time consuming, if you wanna give it the thought, it deserves. Thanks for trying, though.

You're right @Germanlady, but i'm still willing to make it work (or keep it running). I've been away from the forum, a lot of work but the good thing is it's all for the best. I've had very good news waiting for me at work today :)

No need to make a mistery about it my friends, it's not official yet but my very first project as principal investigator has been aproved. This means that for a year I can do extra experiments (meaning go a little crazy in the lab) without really caring about the money :D
@Germanlady, I'm not moving anywhere, we continue "neighbours".

Right now I'm having a lot of work, I'm also training a new person, so I don't have a lot of time to spare. And to be honest these forums are running a little out of control... unfortunatly. But I stick to The Girls Room ;)

Well, congrats again - and thanks for joining us in our own room from time to time. :)
Do keep dropping in, Sandy! We love to hear from you. And for sure after Skyfall, let's continue our chats a bit, even if you are busier.

Have a great weekend, everyone! I am enjoying some dvds today, including For Your Eyes Only and The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo (saw it yesterday for the first time, will watch it again - Craig is great! As is Rooney Mara; very well cast film). Hope everyone's summer is off to a good start. It is very surprisingly not humid and too hot here yet (western Japan) but will turn, probably this week.

Have you read the novel (TGWTDT)?

I have read all 3 books and enjoyed them. The first was not my favorite, actually. I don't think they are great writing, but I got into them. The characters are interesting and the storyline is good. Have you read any?

I read TGWTDT, and am itching to get into the others. I thought the writing was brilliant.

Well, I like a lot of the writing; I did not say it was bad, just not great in parts. Mostly I liked it a lot. I did enjoy all 3 books - I think you will enjoy the other 2 even more. Go get The Girl Who Played With Fire today! :)

My father got them previously, and they are all on the bookshelf. I am just tempted by other books at this time.

I started re-reading TGWPWF yesterday. I enjoy parts of it more than others, but overall yeah it's an enjoyable read. Great beginning and ending!

I loved the three bookd. I agree with you @4EverBonded, I don't think the writting is excellent. I wonder if it was because Larsson sadly died before they were published, perhaps there was not a lot of reviewing in the process due to that. But they are fascinating, that for sure! I really hope the two other books get produced, I thought the swedish versions were really bad and Craig is the perfect Blomkvisk.

Yup, lets hope they come up with a decision soon. Make two for the price of the first on and you have a deal.

I watched a documentary on Stieg that touched on the conspiracy that there was a 4th book he started, but didn't finish, and that his wife has kept from the world. Quite interesting, but she comes off as bitter and rude.

I watched a documentary on Stieg that touched on the conspiracy that there was a 4th book he started, but didn't finish, and that his wife has kept from the world. Quite interesting, but she comes off as bitter and rude.

Well, I have not seen the documentary only read some articles. They never married, she did not receive anything (funds, profit from books, assets, etc.) after he died because of Swedish law (being unmarried) - but they were together for about 30 years. So that is one issue, one sore point. Stieg's father and (I think) brother are in charge of his estate and have only bitter and awful things to say about her (sorry I do not remember her name). Both sides are claiming a 4th book or portions of it that Stieg had either written some of or had notes for.

It is just sad he died, too young, and before he saw his stories published and become so popular. I think if there were a complete or even partially complete 4th book it would have been published by now (he died in what? 2006?). Some characters, like Lisbeth's twin sister whom she despises (Camilla) would have been interesting to read about in future stories (I was sure she would turn up). We won't know now, and the acrimony is so bad among Steig's partner and his blood family that any sort of compromise, or even going forward to let other author's step in and continue the characters, seems dead in the water. I wish they would let someone else pen the next book, but that is just me as a fan wanting to read more. I enjoyed the characters a lot.

Here's hoping to two more great films with Craig and Mara at least. :)

This thread has been very quiet lately. How was your weekend ladies (and gentlemen)? Mine has been a tad boring, it's been raining all day and I spent the afternoon cleaning the house while trying to watch the Murray x Federer match on TV. Could you believe I had to watch it on dutch television? I actually surprised myself with the capability of understanding quite a bit of what the commentators were saying!
    Please share ;)

I missed all of that match and I LOVE tennis, grew up watching every major touney, and I am a huge Roger Federer fan. I am extremely happy he won, needless to say. It is hard for me to get events coverage in Japan, but this weekend it was impossible - as I discovered to my dismay that my tv doesn't give me tv show reception anymore (I usuallly just watch dvds). So I need to get on that - hoping to watch at least some Olmpics this summer. I love the Olympics and I love London (and all of England) so I am hoping to see something, anything. I am overworked (nothing new) but trying to keep my spirits up. I get on this forum every night when I get home because it does take my mind off of work. That and the martini. (just kidding!) ;)

Watched the 2nd Sherlock Holmes film (Game of Shadows) on Saturday and enjoyed it more than the first one. I do so like Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law together. Looking forward to the 3rd installment.

That's all for now, folks ... off to bed soon. (:|
  • Here's something that I'm curious about after watching a video on the Barbican exhibit - what are your opinions on the sense of style of the female characters? The men often wish they could look as good in a tuxedo as Bond, and we have the excellent http://thesuitsofjamesbond.com/ website to examine Bond's dress sense. But the clothes that the women wear are much more elegant and show a much greater range of style IMHO. Any of you ladies inspired by specific characters or outfits? Do you find yourself trying to imitate the style of certain characters in the way that the men here do (seriously, are there any men here that *don't* wear a navy blue polo and white pants?). And what are some of your favourites?

Sorry for so neglecting this thread. #:-S and thanks Sandy for keeping it up.

@Lord - no, I never was inspired by the Bond girls. I suppose it has to do with them being sexy vamps and even though I am not shabby, I couldn't match them. So - I always did stick to my sort of clothes but admired them nevertheless ;)

Nice question @thelordflasheart. Yes, I am many times inspired by the style of the different Bond girls (hairstyle here, makeup there, clothes, swimwear, etc), which doesn't necessarily mean I dress or look like them!
Sometimes it's subconcious. I think I shared this when it happened but I'll tell the story again. In April I had a congress in Sweden and I was told there was a swimming pool in the hotel and everyone was planning on going. I didn't bring any swimwear when I moved to Germany and it was the day before the flight, I had less than an hour before the shops closed to buy something. I decided on swimsuit, thought bikini was a tad too much (or too little) for professional setting. Grabed a handfull in a department store and hit the fitting room. Between wrong sizes (why are sizes in Germany bigger? And why do all the clothes seem to be made bigger anyway?) and acrobatic achievements I managed to get out with room with one item before the store closed, without really taking a good look at it. When I got home and decided to put it on again just to see how it looked and I realized it was the same model as Domino's single-strap black swimsuit, sans transparency. I wasn't thinking of getting a swimsuit like that but that was what I ended up with. Why? Because somewhere in my mind it's imprinted "that's how a beautiful swimsuit should look like, like Domino's".

That's a great story to hear, Sandy. Thanks for sharing. :) Yes, the Bond women's style has impacted my life probably in a subconscious way many times. I rarely dress up or even swim these days, but I do remember years ago buying a swimsuit and found a one piece that I immediately thought, "Oooh, James Bond movie!" and bought it. It actually was not like Domino's (which is a classic and sexy look, I think) but reminded me of a scuba suit (zipper down the front but sexy and high waist cut legs (French cut?), a little like the way Honey's bikini bottom looked in Dr. No, with the belt across it. So hard to describe, but I loved that swimsuit and my first thought was that it belonged in a Bond movie, when I bought it.

An example of a fun and over-the-top dress was Onnatop's in Goldeneye at the casino; She looked wicked, like a shiny wicked witch (especially the neckline). I'd never wear it but it was so fun because it suited her character.

I do enjoy looking at the beautiful, elegant and sexy gowns and dresses/suits the bond ladies wear in different films. I notice them all; I guess some of my favorites are Anya's from The Spy Who Loved Me, Vesper's in CR, Kara's in TLD, and Melina's simple cotton dress in FYEO (at the hotel, a daytime dress but fitted perfectly and flowed; I also like what she wore at the vegetable market).

And do you remember, did you read, that Jackdagger actually sewed her own Solange dress (CR) and posted a pic on the thread about post a picture of yourself. It's beautifully made! I can't sew.

I always look forward to the costumes and style in Bond films, for the women and the men (especially Bond of course). I think Severine will have some amazing clothes, don't you? I can't wait for this film! Should be a great one.

Good Morning, Ladies and Gents. Have a nice, relaxed Sunday, everybody. And remember, if you are living in a place, where you see the sun, feel blessed. In Germany, we didn't have a summer yet.
