Should Craig only do a trilogy of films?

MGM has gone on record as to say they want a Bond film every two years starting with Bond 23... that would follow the same intervals of time that were part of the franchise from 1977 - 1989, and again from 1995 - 1999

what they want and what they get may be two different things!!

very true... i am not saying that that is what is going to happen - only what MGM wants to happen..

... but i don't think EON would be opposed to that either.... lets not forget, they originally wanted QOS out the following year after CR, but that didn't work out - and before the MGM financial crisis, the reason they wanted a 3 year break between QOS and BOND 23, is because they had been working nonstop almost from 2005 through 2008, 3 straight years...

I'm sure EON wants to get back to some consistency as well too.... but we'll see..

I think it's highly likely Bond 24 does arrive in 2014, especially with the head start EON have on the upcoming film. This would also give Craig enough time to make more Bond films if he so wishes.

I would find it pretty likely that we'll see Bond 24 in 2014 as well. I can't imagine that, after finally getting back on their feet financially (or at least to a point where they can function somewhat normally), MGM would want to wait too long to churn out another Bond film.

I would hope that Craig keeps going for a few more films
after Bond 23. I'd like to see EON fully explore where they can take the Bond
character while they've got an actor of Daniel Craig's quality in the role.

    Fully AGREE!!!

Craig will do four, minimum. He's under contract, loves the role, and is making buku cash so why would he want to leave?

I hope he does five, that way he surpasses Brosnan in every possible way.

Craig even has enough time left to do six films in total if he wanted. He could do even more, though is there anyone who actually wants an actor doing more than six films as Bond? Just look at what happens...

I sincerly doubt EON wants Craig to leave the role before 2018, which would be a decade after CR. I honestly don't believe EON would want to go through another recast, the 3rd within 2 decades, the 2nd in 10 years. I mean let's face it, Brosnan lasted only 7 years. And myself, I don't want to go through another 3 years Bond search hardly 7 years after the last one. Unless they can find a replacement to Craig within a year and make Bond #7's debute by 2014, I really don't want Craig to not make the next 4 films.

I think it's the films themselves he doesn't like, up to this point.

Of course, if it's known when Craig's last film is before it begins production (something I feel he'll announce) that gives EON at least an extra year to begin the recasting.

But yes, a film every other year would work, or even 2012, 2014, 2017, 2020 if it had to be. Craig would be 52 then.

I agree with the fact that after having waited for so long Brosnan, lasting only 7 years is very annoying. He should have least got another film, ideally two - Brosnan wanted to do 6 anyway.

I prefer having 4 more Craig films every 2 years than having to live through another 4 year long recast already.

the delay in the films is not longer when recasting the main role as affectively the casting of each film starts from scratch, hence why it can't always be possible for a two year gap. I remember when casino royale was in production, MW said the next bond film was already being written hence the two year gap. I dought they are even thinking anything about bond 24 until bond 23 is in cinemas?
  • Daniel Craig has only just become Bond, why do we need to recast already? Why can't we have a bit of continuity for a while? Some people have such short attention spans nowadays. I blame this new-fangled Music Television. :-W
  • Quoting Bond:

I'll support Craig doing a fourth film if it's released in 2014. No more of this 4-year delay bullcrap. If there's another lengthy delay until Bond 24, I'd want a new, younger actor.
I fully agree. Craig should be done after his fourth in 2014.
  • Well I love Daniel Craig as Bond, and has successfully brought the Bond series into the 21st Century, I absolutely loved Casino Royale (And I am one of the few who actually enjoyed QoS), and i think that it would be good and interesting to see a finale next year (hopefully), but i think it should be a finale to that story, and then keep Craig and start the next chapter of Bond (since it's just the begginning of a reboot anyway) while keeping the great Craig, otherwise they'd be a huge delay between bond 23 and 24 because of the searching of the Next Bond, and i just don't want that to happen :'( :D

If the man is in good physical shape and is willing to do more films. he should do more than a trilogy.

Three or four, yes. Three or four more might be a little bit too much of the good thing. ;;) Craig's a great Bond, I agree, but if four more films take another 8 years or so to complete, maybe his ageing will interfere. If it doesn't, I'd love Craig to go on for as long as possible, but I don't think it'll happen.

Which is why the next Bond should be 31/32 years old, and you can pop a good 6 films before he reaches his mid-40's.

Indeed. It's either that or back to the one film per year formula, which I don't think is such a good idea. The other option is to do three films at most, which I don't like either. Each Bond actor deserves a full era, not a Summer.

It would be a tragedy for Craig to do only three. I can see the comparisons between this and the new Batman trilogy, but it clearly doesn't need to be that way. I want Craig as long as possible, to be honest. Lightning only strikes so many times. The chances of getting another person so suited for the role is slim right now.

They've got a good thing going. The reboot is still fresh. People still call himmthe new Bond. They're attracting top notch talent. It would be foolish to tamper with that now.

If Craig only did three he would be a blip on the Bondar. I want a legacy.

I think Craig will probably do at least 4, equal to Brosnan's contributions. Possibly 5.

I'd love to see the arc completed for Craig in three films, however, I don't want to see the end of Craig's Bond. Also, as others have said, we're in a really strong point in the franchise in terms of storytelling. We've got a great organisation set up as a credible threat and Bond out to bring them down. So, whilst I'd like to see the current story arc tied up in 3 movies, I don't think that precludes the possibility of more Craig films, or indeed more Quantum.

This sounds like a contradiction, but the arc for me is less about destroying quantum in 3 films, rather it is about re-establishing Bond's character and motives, and setting up Quantum as a threat. At the end of the trilogy, you can still have more Craig and more Quantum.

Look at the Connery films. You establish SPECTRE in DN, in FRWL you have a plot based on a personal vendetta, and in TB you have a full scale global threat. YOLT is the pay-off, where we reveal Blofeld, but we don't get any closure until the weak Bath-o-sub in DAF. FRWL,TB and YOLT can be looked at as a trilogy in terms of story arc. I don't see why we can't do the same for Craig.

It seems there are no clear and obvious candidates to replace Craig when he leaves, so I'm betting, alas, that the next Bond search will be another long one. So, as much as I don't like Craig's films, he should do as many as possible. I just don't want to live through a 3 years long Bond search again. Pop out a film every 2 years, maybe 4 more with Craig, and maybe a candidate will emerge naturally in the next 4/5/6 years of Craig's tenure, so the hiatus between Craig and Bond #7 will be minimal. Hell, I'd kill for EON to manage to recast Bond and release a film within 2 years, a la Moore, Lazenby and Dalton.

Heh, no, none of us do. We weren't alive. :-)) (only like 2 people voted "Connery" as the era they were born in).
