I think the problem appears to lie in that there are too many clues for people to work with, so to simplify things, I will categorize them into the ten most relevant clues -

    # Over Land, Sea, and Air

    # I had a tale of the unexpected

    # I was in the dark, but then things became clearer - in more ways than one

    # I saw an arrival, I saw a departure

    # I lost something, I may never retrieve

    # Someone put me at incredible risk

    # I wouldn't make a very good soccer player for Argentina

    # I had an associate in another James Bond release

    # I'm not really the ideal candidate, for what my business would appear to be

    # I was asked a question, that provided a quick response

All you need do, is concentrate on the above shortlisted clues, and you'll be alright. I hope this can be solved at some point in the near future

How many times have we said that before? ;-)

Many, but she seems to fit nearly all the clues. Land, sea and air? The hovercraft?
Another associate? Octopussy? Cameo in AVTAK? Lost something that I will never retrieve? Her life? I was in the dark etc.- when she enters Bond's hotel room?

Actually it was the Argentinian footballer, not bloody 'soccer player', ;-) that led me to guess her. I'm probably way off though.

For millions of people, it is definitely A through Z as in "zee". And of course "zee-bra." Not "zeh-bra - which makes those millions of us fall about laughing. Oh those other funny English accents in the world ...

I found "zeh-bra" did make me laugh out loud first I heard it. I'm rather used to "to-mah-to" but "zeh"? Er, no.

But, c'est la vie. A little French here seems apropos, no?

I speak the Queen's english. As do the dozens of commonwealth states around the world. Vivre et laisser vivre, as you said, a little french seems appropriate.
