I think this is a good take on what some don't care for about CR/QOS. But then again, MR and DAD have too much fun. Hopefully this one strikes the right balance in that respect.
Yes, very good @AgentJamesBond007 , but this is very spammy. The joke gets very stale quickly.
;)
Here, "classé" means "affaire classée" which can be translated into "case closed".
I think you and Acton Steve are wilfully confusing 'fun' (which DAD definitely was not), with the lightness of tone and insouciance that we all know is one of the things that defines the screen Bond.
Wait...is this a joke, or truly a spoiler? If it's a joke I want to see it...is it safe to see?
I have?
I think the Craig films have well and truly hit their stride. A turbo charged stride that blasts away the opposition. I though the Brosnan era didnt work but the Craig era is one of the highlights of the series in art direction, scripts and acting. The whole thing for me works wonderfully and I am looking forwared very much to Skyfall.
Incidently, I believe it was you who were bitching the Bonds have not worked since LTK. You were blaming LTK for introducing the thriller/revenge/emo elements that you dont think work.
And as for my DAD point?
That stands. With DAD the producers/director wanted to go to the big bloated Roger Moore extravaganzas where the plot is secondary to the oneliners, gadgets etc. While Spy and MR have the rock hard proffessionalism of Broccoli, Ken Adam and Lewis Gilbert. They tried to go back to those days.
And ballsed it up.
There we go :p
No. QoS as well. As I have said before a very underratted film.
:-B
I'm with Bain on this one. I loved CR but imo QOS was just as bad, if not worse, than DAD. Craig was one of the only good things about the film.
Na its not. Royale I can literally watch over and over. Solace? Meh. Action, average, acting...hmmm average, scenery...ok thats pretty good but in terms of which one is the better crafted, better made, better scripted film CR wins hands down.
Its not terrible...its just bah! I've always felt that film "misses something". I felt it in 2008 and I feel it now.
I'm not saying QoS is as bad as DAD - it isn't but it feels very underwhelming to me. Despite the cool scenery the story is just boring, the action is dotted all over the place, the song is mediocre, the characters are mainly bland and the entire film is an extremely...meh experience.
Give me GE or CR ANY day of the week :p At least I walk out of those with a smile on my face.
My very favorite part is:
Bond has identified a problem: Some men are coming to kill us
But not to worry as he has a solution: We’re going to kill them first.
That just made me smile. I cannot wait for this and how I wish I could see it in IMAX! I am now seriously considering taking my hard earned pitiful savings and getting to London to see this film. But that is crazy talk ... I just know I will watch it as many times as I can (at about $20 a pop) for the two weeks it will be shown here in my area of Japan, in English. And it will be worth it - as James would say: "Every penny of it."
The more I watch QoS the more I get out of it. Its very adult. The progression of the characters is very nuanced but each one is well drawn.
I am not an obvious film, it takes work but it is worth it. Little gem.
First, to answer the (?), the enduring image of the falling silhouette is not in the credits of Vertigo, but very shortly in the nightmare sequence. It's quite spectacular that so many people remember this two seconds so well, actually (even though this image is a bit similar to the original poster of the movie, but I don't even remember myself having ever seen the original poster). Don't forget Casino Royale's credits too, though, there's also a falling silhouette, those motion is closer to what we see in this trailer !
And back to the topic, in the French dubbing/translation of this trailer, I was quite surprised to hear that "Some men are coming to kill us" had been translated into "On a des tueurs aux trousses".
It's a very rare French colloquialism, that I've probably never heard ever in real life (I don't know any professional murderer though !). But Google "Aux trousses", or even better, Google Image it, and you'll find out that its only noticeable use was in "La Mort aux trousses", the French (successful, I'd say) translation of.... "North by Northwest". Really, using nowadays in movie "... aux trousses" in a movie means you want to refer to Hitchcock, in my opinion. It's a bit like using "bons baisers de ..." (="from ... with love") when you want to refer to Bond. You may find in Google another movie "L'Amour aux trousses", which is a straightforward pun on the Hitchcock movie.
Did the translator also felt the Hitchcock element in what he saw... ?
@thelivingroyale, that's cool. I planned on seeing SF in IMAX on opening night, but I just want to go to a traditional theater for my first viewing. Probably the Alamo close by. Plus, I'll be in college again at the time, so the closest IMAX theater will be hours and hours away.
If I want to watch an "adult" Bond film I'll watch FRWL or OHMSS. At least the characters are more memorable, the story arcs are more engaging and the action isn't frustratingly edited.
Even if you were right and CR was less Bondian than the Brosnan films, I need to ask you: do you rather watch a crap film filled with Bondian elements or a well made film with just a few things that are Bondian?
Royale feels complete...it feels rich, it feels like a properly made MOVIE. Solace feels a bit like an"add-on" for some reason. The action annoys me too.
A good sequel should work BOTH on its own and as part of a double-bill.
When I watch a Bond movie, I expect to watch a Bond movie. I don't care if the movie is crap or well-made, as long as it's Bond, with all the Bondian elements, I am pleased. Well-made film without an ounce of Bondness like CR may well be a good film, but is a total failure as a Bond film. Crap or good, I want Bond !, and CR falls flat on it's head in that regard.
As a film, CR is a 10/10, as a Bond film, CR is a 1/10. and for me the most important is whether or not the film is Bondian..... which CR is definatly not... imo of course.
