Gteetings, everyone.
As far as I'm concerned, the Bond series has STILL not received its proper respect in the grand scheme of movie history.
There have always been tips of the hat to the series' style, longevity, influence, and craftsmanship, to be sure, but the praise of other filmmakeers has never been properly catalogued.
What better appraisal can there be than the respect from ones peers?
Examples?
Stanley Kubrick was a big fan.
Orson Welles praised the movies(can you imagine a Bond film directed by him? Cinematic heaven).
Federico Fellini was fascinated by Bond movies, describing them as films of the fiture.
David Lean, editing Lawrence of Arabia in 1962, was blown away when Peter Hunt showed him a rough cut of Dr.No. Lean, a master editor himself, told Hunt that the editing was revolutionary for its time.
Hitchcock. The Master of Suspense gave a tip of his bowler to 007.
Steven Spielberg. Nuff said.
Kubrick, Welles, Fellini, Lean, Hitchcock, Spielberg.
Thats not a bad lineup of masters of cinema. And thats off the top of my head.
And lets not forget guys like Tarantino, Robert Zemeckis, Ridley Scott and George Lucas.
Did you know that when Doug Liman was asked by his agent what he wanted to do after Swingers/Go, Liman's response was that he wanted to direct a Bond movie. His agent said "no way" but...here's a thing called Bourne.
Anymore directors I've missed, let me know.
And to anyone who believes the series will someday end, I offer you Cubby's succinct response to the question of how long the series will last:
"Until Doomsday."
Bond is just beginning.
"How's our girl? Has she melted your cold heart yet?"

Kind of off topic, but am I the only one who hadn't really heard of Mendes before SF?
Beat me to it.
Did you live in another planet :-/
I saw and loved Jarhead actually, just never knew who directed it.
On another planet ;)
Anyway, Tarantino seems like a fan, he did want to do CR true to the book. EDIT: already been mentioned.
