Hahaha, "Q's not gonna like this!" I wish they had put more use into the BMW. The same thing happened in GoldenEye with the Z3. Whereas TND and DAD got exceptional use out of Bond's car including two of the best car chases in the series, GE and TWINE really got cheated out of their cars.
Despite the fact that I really love that action scene and the character of Zukovsky on the whole, I didn't like that line actually, hahaha. It always makes me cringe! One of his cheesier lines I've always thought.
In regard to 'laughs' one of the biggest I remember when watching Bond in the cinema was during the boat chase when the clampers got drenched. The audience went wild and started clapping.
I agree with that wholeheartedly.
Entertaining every once in a while maybe, and he did feature quite prominently over his two appearances, but sometimes it's about quality not quantity and I would include the Kaufman character in it, as well as Trevelyan, Renard or even Graves in it. The Brosnan tenure was a poor time for characters if I think back, nothing that really stands out other than Bond himself, apart from a couple of instances where strange attributes were apparent. Brosnan started off very well, went on a deep descent two years later, picked himself up very well thereafter before finishing on another dour note, did one film too many as stated so many times..
Couldn`t agree more with you. Brosnan was so cool at times, and that is a fine example of one of his cool and collected moments.
As for the cinema audience applauding.....this happened a lot whenever I saw the Brosnan films at the flicks! First CLASS entertainment with a good balance of humour.
I kind of miss it.....
Actually the other biggest laugh I remember was at the end of DAD during the VR scene.
Gotta love the way Broz walks into the office
I love Trevelyan and Renard, great villians, Kaufman was in a great scene but I didn't really see enough of him, but every time Zukofsky is on screen I'm always entertained. He's the type of colourful supporting character the Craig era could use.
I liked Zukovsky more in GE than TWINE, he was much more confrontational towards Bond and he had that 'bite' that supporting characters should have. In TWINE, he was much more mellow and friendly, which isn't as exciting, although he did give us some humour.

@BAIN123: In regards to the line to Zukovsky's goon and walking into the office at the end of DAD, YES! Two of his best super-cool moments for sure! Out of all the Bond actors, no one can pull of that kind of swagger like Brosnan can!
@Shoreline: You're absolutely right, Brosnan has those epic cool moments where you just know he is 007! I found that anytime he pointed the P99 always meant that one of these "cool moments" was incoming! Good examples of this are what you and BAIN123 just mentioned with Zukovsky's goon, when he discovers Chang in his hotel room in DAD, when he confronts Bullion at the casino in TWINE, and of course that virtual reality office shoot-out in DAD. There's something about the P99 that increases his swagg level!
I do love Broz but I think you're very right in saying that. I don't think Sean will ever be topped in that department, it just came so naturally to him.
When you consider than Brosnan idolized and became a fan of Bond because of Connery and GF, that just reinforces it. Connery had an awful lot to do with the series becoming as iconic as it has been, it nearly didn't survive without him. No offense to Brosnan, but the series is doing great under Craig and making more money than ever, whereas in 1969 a series classic is released and all people could talk about is that Connery wasn't in it.
Very true. Give that man a ceegar. I'll bum one from Pierce :D
I'm going to be mega controversial and say that the moment Bond locks up his car and walks to the hotel in TND rivals anything Connery did. When I re-watched that scene I immediately thought "Bond". In recent weeks I've replayed that scene over and over again.
Yes, just yes! The style of his walk into the hotel is incredibly 007.
I'm not saying Brosnan is better than Connery but it's one of the moments where, like Connery before him, I can say that IS James Bond.
A good example with his successor is when he's sitting on the train in CR and the waiter hands him the menu.
All the actors definitely had their moments of just flat out coolness. I think Connery had the highest quality scripts which put him in scenarios that capitalised on his ability to be extremely cool, something that any actor who followed did not have. I mean, Connery's first four are classics.
But I agree with your examples. One other from Pierce in TND was just after he kills Kaufmann in the hotel room. That sequence where he scales the hotel as Stamper watches followed by the way he walk down the stairs towards the car park is extremely cool. Very confident air about him.
I also liked the moment in DAD when he walks back into the hotel lobby all suited and booted with a slight smile on his face. Some people say he "never made the role his own". There may be an element of truth to that but when I see those examples I mentioned above I DON'T think of Connery/Moore etc.
