It's a really embarrassing film and Moore is one of the weakest links of it. His face looks awful, in OP he looks fine but it's obvious he's had some work done inbetween. His hair looks an artificial sandy colour, his blue contact lenses are creepy and his face looks stapled behind his ears. So embarrassing.
Look at these comparison shots, in OP he looks older but still himself but by AVTAK he looks a little too plastic and odd.
Sean also looked dodgy in his last film, mainly because he had put on a some weight and his wig was styled differently. I'm not totally against the look but he didn't look quite like James Bond.
But I just remembered that Moore did 'North Sea Hijack' in... 1980? He looked much younger in that film than in MR or FYEO. Must be the beard or something...
It's also funny to realize Tom Cruise is now as old as Moore in FYEO. Very true, Cruise's wardrobe helps immensely, as it certainly would have Moore
Connery was cast quite late in the process after he convinced Cubby & Saltzman in an intense interview, but he had his mature looks on his side - for a then 30/31 year old he was remarkably 'vintage', and was chosen ahead of the other, much older candidates at the time.
Bond was clearly not 30 years of age in any of Flemings novels, but Connery was mature beyond his years and (obviously) pulled it off effortlessly. He made you believe that he was older and had been around quite a bit.
That was Lazenby's weakness, he was much younger (28/29, if I remember correctly) than the character was supposed to be and it showed in his performance.
Moore was cast at 45/46 and it must have been quite obvious that he would not last into the mid 80's (let's face it - he should have called it a day after FYEO and gone out on a high (not an 'all time high'...)
Dalton and Brosnan were pretty much the same age (41 ish) when they started and had at least 5-6 films in them each.
Craig looked somewhat youthful when he started at 37/38 but he's not aged particularly well, I think we can agree...?
Seeing that Creasy is 47, I always surmised that you were 123?
He was 50 by the time of MR and after this fourth adventure he was starting to feel he was getting too old. He looked pretty good in MR but by the time he did FYEO and OP he was going downhill fast.
His age really showed in AVTAK
As far as creepy goes, the girl who had the largest age difference with ol' Rog was Caroline Bouquet in FYEO. I think there was something like 30 years difference.
Now that's really sick.
Oh ha ha :p
Being 69 yourself, you would not mind a 39 year old, would you?
But their romance was a bit more believable. Carole Bouquet looked classy and not like some pin-up model.
You are spot on. I made that observation about Bouquet and Moore's age but I have to concede your point: the romance seemed so much more believable.
Bond getting it on with George Best's then model partner in the iceburg submarine is very awkward to watch.
I just don't really believe Moore is 007 in AVTAK sadly. He's himself.
Yep. Unlike Brosnan. ;))
Said Brosnan as he pissed all over Bond.
Anyway, talking about older Bond, part of this article in the Daily Mail made me laugh. I love how it uses a photo from AVTAK:

On a more serious note it seems that poor Rog has been through the mill in recent months.
Anyway; Daniel Craig looks well at the moment (aside from that dreadful suit and glasses he wore not so long back) and he looks in good shape for 24.
But I think they should have kept the ageing theme for Bond25 (if Craig is to stay for it) as I think it would be more appropriate.
