The Inbetweeners, US version looks terrible

edited July 2012 in General Movies & TV Posts: 12,837
Like Life On Mars and The Office before it, one of my favourite TV shows is getting a remake. And also like Life On Mars and The Office, it looks crap.

They've used all the same gags, but they're not as funny. Why does Will look the most normal? Why is Jay fat? They should've just aired the original version over there.

This thread is for people to discuss the crap remake and the brilliant original 3 UK seasons.

I, on behalf of all Americans, would like to apologize for this atrocious piece of trash.

As a huge fan of the original, this trailer made me weep and cringe. I will now be heading out to buy the newly released DVD set of all 3 seasons of the original.

They reused all the jokes but made them 10 times worse. I will be tuning into MTV on August 20th only out of pure curiousity.

    Again, sorry.

It's ok, it's not your fault, it's MTV, channel 4, and anyone else involved in making this. Glad to see you're a fan of the original series.

There's one US remake of a British TV show that I actually didn't mind, and that's Shameless. And why did that turn out halfway decent? Because they used the original writer and series creator. If they were that hell bent on remaking it, they should've got the original writers.

I also have a feeling they will:

A.) Either bleep the crap out of everything they say
    B.) Not use swears.

The BBC America edits of The Inbetweeners were highly edited. That's why I *cough*got them off the internet.*cough*

I feel bad for posting the trailer for the remake, here's something to make you all feel better.

Wanna know something even more depressing? They're also doing an American remake of Only Fools and Horses. I'll let that sink in.

I'm an American, and while I don't watch much television, I've heard that almost all British shows/sitcoms are leagues better than the American remakes, starting with the show 'Skins', I believe.

The original UK Skins is much better than the remake yeah.

Why is it that America has great TV, but 99% of the time when it's a remake of a British TV show, it's terrible?

OMG!!!! A remake of "Only Fools And Horses" is a MAJOR no no!!! That is pure comedy gold! If they do? Please don't post it as the original can never be beaten! X_X

@thelivingroyale, I wish I could tell you. I used to love watching TV: 'Third Watch,' 'Nip/Tuck,' 'Rescue Me,' and then it all faded away, and I just stopped caring. I'll tune in every now and then online - it's what I did for 'House,' and the only two shows I find myself watching anymore are 'Dexter' and 'Californication.' Fantastic fun with those two.

Don't worry, I'm just going to ignore it's existence altogether.

I'd go as far to say that nobody at all will like this (well, barely anybody). Look at how many dislikes the original trailer I posted got.

I'm hoping that they'll just cancel it soon after it airs.

I just think America loves to copy everyone else. We do churn out some good movies here and there, but these days, if it isn't a remake, reboot, prequel, reimagining, or sequel, we're just copying it from others: the UK, Korea, Sweden. If you make something entertaining, rich, and original, you better watch out, because we're going to hover over it and dump right on top of it...and then we'll throw it on MTV.

    Dear Americans,

Please don't rape our programme :(

Seriously, the problem with remaking a show like The Inbetweeners in the US is that it just becomes another "American Pie-esque*" comedy. I don't remember THAT many comedy programmes in the UK about school-life. We had "drama's" like Grange Hill and Waterloo Road but I don't remember many comedies. This just looks like another "high school" gross out show :(

    *I like American Pie

Don't look at me, friend. You would never have to worry if I was at the head of this type of decision making.

$194,874 at the Dutch Boxoffice (Januari this year.) stil it is more money then that Michelle Williams (Dawson Creek) scores with My Week with Marilyn.

If i already see have seen some of this kind of shows moost of the time i prefer the Australia, English or Norway version and only take a look if there is nothing on tv and if the Public Channel give it you have some expections. Moost material is made by the BBC or something like that. Better acting, girls look better and story are more intresting, whyle it is not always mean to be for people like my age. After a couple of episodes i almoost done with it, because the suprise of it gone or new season take to long.

Exeption is The L Word, i have seen a couple of episodes and haven't seen the English anser on this and keep that way. If this going to be on Dutch tv i will not follow this, count for both versions.

There was also nearly a Red Dwarf USA.

Thank god it never got made...

    Here's another

This is literally almost exactly the same as the UK version, but with worse acting and none of the charm of the orignal series. At least the real Moss is in it, they could never have recast him.

Why does American Jay remind me of Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealers?

The US version wasn't *that* bad. MTV was the wrong network. Should have been HBO.

What a shock. My countrymen rip off yet another British property, and muck it up. I may go into catatonia from the surprise.
