Ryan Reynolds watches Green Lantern for the 10th anniversary.
Just starting part six, I had high expectations though this film is better than I could have imagined. I am shocked at what was removed for the theatrical cut.
Wow what a movie, I loved spending time with the characters, my eyes welled up on numerous occasions. Snyder pulled no punches and went there that's for sure. This film in a nutshell is Thrasos.
My sentiments exactly! This is the film it should always have been! Guys, I've got awesome vibes out of this one. I love this film.
I'll probably watch it again with the soon-to-be-missus Dimi. But I'm the bigger fan of the two of us so I went ahead and watched the film on my own. ;-)
Will rewatch it again tomorrow, so much to take in. As a DC fan I never dreamt I would see a film like this actually happen. For Zach =D>
They just have to continue this story now, they just have to...
So yes, I want a JL 2 myself, made by Snyder.
I clap simply because of what Zach has been through and in the end he got to show as much of his vision as he could.
To me Snyder creates art, I must have rewound parts of some scenes about ten times during the film which is not the best way for a first viewing. I was on many occasions saying to myself 'did that just happen'. Wonder Woman is totally bad ass, to be honest they all were in different ways.
Superman vs The Justice League Wow!
Yeah those things alone make the 4 hours justified. 😉 Even though certain scenes were there in the theatrical cut, everything feels more cohesive now. Characters are better served overall. And Steppenwolf looks a lot better than he did in the theatrical cut, which I doubt I will ever watch again.
I am also disgruntled. What they were not serving us a few years ago would have made a huge difference. This cut reveals the bad decisions from back then. Granted, things were complicated at the time. But clearly, 2 hours wasn't enough.
All the characters had depth and I had empathy with Steppenwolf and there was a sense of tragedy there.
It is a more brutal and darker film for sure. I recall that was a complaint people had about BvS and the reason some felt JL was better. JL was a trifle happier you could say. Well, to be frank, I appreciate the darker tone of some of these films and this JLTSC puts it to good use. Not everyone will like that though. I agree with you, @Fire_and_Ice_Returns.
One thing I don't like so far: the choice of songs. Snyder usually picks good music, but none of them really hit the mark for me here. I think the introductory scene of Lois visiting Superman's memorial would have been more impactful without one.
But, I like it so far!
True there are some that don't appreciate Zach's aesthetic, though some of those may be won over by the team dynamics and the emotion in the film. I could have kept watching for a further 4 hours as I just wanted to see these characters continue to develop as a group and deal with the larger threat.
Zach was very smart with how he ended the film I think, with regards to nudging the possibility of a continuation of events in his favour.
I noticed the
Absolutely. I got the same vibes as I get from reading a multi issue comic series building towards a big climax and taking its time to establish its characters and their relations with patience and love.
There were times when the 1.33:1 ratio really stood out as a good thing to me, especially for shots of the team, like looking at great art from a comic.
Snyder's visual style is very artful in my book too. 300, Watchmen, ... even Sucker Punch, all have that "Snyder look" that I really dig. I loved the choice of Snyder for DC from day 1.
And man... Wonder Woman! So good to see her so badass again after my disappointment with WW85.
My TV is a good size so the aspect ratio I soon forgot about, I looked at a aspect ratio comparison video a few weeks ago so appreciated how much more we were getting with how the film was framed. The shots were like panels from a comic book.
Because the WW84 reviews were so bad I refused to pay the price they were asking for just for a rental so still not watched the film yet.
... I am soooo glad I stayed spoiler-free!
What is great about this is we all knew the A to B to C of the plot though we had no idea how much it would differ from the 2017 film to getting from one point to another. Because it was a 4 hour film I was quietly confident the trailers would not reveal too much.
I have three days off when I finish work tomorrow I suspect I will watch this a few more times over the weekend. What I watched was in 1080p, I will be buying the 4K version soon as its released. No Idea how it was presented in HBO MAX.
Personally I think Whedon phoned it in, admittedly it was not the best of circumstances for him though his humour for the most part just did not fit.
Can I just say,
Yet. (Still an hour to go.)
A very much shoehorned rescue scene set up. That is the kind of scene that is not organic and more a response to previous fan criticism.
Without it, the team's efforts look so much more "in sync". And the film really does present us with some great cooperative moments!
Also, despite Marvel having done it several times years ago, I love the "photo-finish" moment of the team. :D
That's a great shot, I like just before that shot when WW takes out two Parademon's
Yes! Memorable moments, like a sequence of panels from a comic.
My biggest criticism is that this should be 3 hours tops, 2.5 minimum. There’s so much fat in this film that would NEVER have made into what could have been a theatrical cut finished by Snyder in 2017.
Those first two hours drag pretty badly, but once we get to the Stryker’s Island sequence that’s when it starts to actually feel like a proper superhero film.
It’s also nice to see Batman at the top of his game, and not the chump he was written in BvS. Though it’s nice to see Superman smile and act like his more traditional self it also felt too subdued, if that makes sense.
I have a lot more to say, but that’s my condensed take.
One thing though. Was anyone WEIRDED OUT by Flash’s introduction? Him stroking Iris’ hair, the digital hotdog inserted next to her face, it was REALLY awkward and creepy. Also, holy hell nobody knows how to drive. Both times we have women not looking at the road resulting in car accidents, and even Bruce shows reckless driving when in that Mercedes.
