Better than the whole of MCU Phase 4 in less than 2 minutes.
James Gunn Posts Iconic Image From DC Comics History, Possibly Hinting at What's to Come ...
'Making Plans'.
I missed this the other day.
I hope they haven t hired Gunn to make a travesty of this amazing comic book.
Interesting, @peter ! Thank you!
My confidence in Patty Jenkins took a deep blow with WW1984, but I for one wouldn't drop Gal yet. Anyway, it's all politics down there, it seems. Too bad. They are sitting on one of the biggest comic book treasures in the world but somehow can't figure out a clear direction in which to move.
Too many suits have too many fingers in too many pies, I think. A lot of squandered potential, a lot of "coulda-shoulda", a lot of premature cancellations, ... Unless they get their affairs in order, WB will continue to muddle along. As a DC fan, it pains me to see that these management rotations bring nothing but delays, half-cooked plans, one man's vision steamrolling over the previous man's, ...
Patty Jenkins is kind of in a rut with her blockbusters. First, Rogue Squadron is delayed because of WW3. Now it sounds like WW3 is off because of a few things. Bad press and box office bomb. A mixed bag for me. Maybe with new change in management at Disney, her SW movie could be moving forward soon.
Superman still needs to be fixed, cinematically. It’s a shame that nobody at WB films seems to care about him. Build his supporting characters and world would be what I would do. No origin story and use villains from his comics that haven’t been used before.
Leave Batman alone for now. It seems that will be the only DC character we will get for now, in some way or another.
I’m iffy about James Gunn in some ways (crude MCU humor, honestly). But I think he has a chance to make DC right. Let’s see what happens with the true WB higher ups.
While the WB higher ups are mostly to blame, Zack Snyder and his main team should be blamed a bit as well. WB should have known how polarizing he can be. However, they hired him.
The Flash is going to be hard to watch because of Ezra Miller. They destroyed themselves. Michael Keaton will be promising though. I’m not a fan of General Zod being the main villain again, if the rumors are true. WB truly needs to move on from Lex and Zod for 30+years after this.
I’m scared what this means for Joker 2. I would like to see more villains (particularly DC’s) get a similar treatment. Maybe just not as dark.
I want my characters to do well, but it could be a while before that happens.
Reeves' Batman was so refreshing after all of that, Phoenix's Joker is its own thing and can just exist. The only choice I'm interested to see Gunn make is with his Suicide Squad characters with Harley Quinn and Peacemaker. Those characters are linked to Snyder's characters and actors, so how would you explain keeping those characters? Or will Peacemaker Season 2 be the final thing in that universe?
I agree, it’s been infuriating as a fan of this universe seeing WB just learn the wrong lessons over and over again. The entire DC Universe is so underutilized in many ways, and my hope is that we’ll be able to start from scratch eventually down the road. I’m happy for Cavil’s return, and optimistic about where Batfleck and Mamoa’s Aquaman might end up, but I think these recent Lobo rumors are pointing to the inevitability of a full on reboot. Happy seeing that Reeves’ is able to keep doing his take on Batman separately though.
I think Gunn and co need to be really bold and let audiences know that from whatever point, probably once all the films left that are yet to be released are out, you can come back to a new and fresh DC otherwise they're gonna feel like they're just back in the same cycle we've been in for the past however many years of confusion and lack of confidence.
Yes that is true. The most straightforward way to send a message to the audience that this is a new regime and a new start is to change the face at the front. A bit like when Bond needed a restart in '95, much as Dalton had his fans.
Although I say that as someone who loves his Suicide Squad film, but it feeds back into what I was saying above, that its not worth it.
I like this comparison. People need to realize that as much as they may be a fan of these interpretations, the characters are bigger than the actors who play them. That’s why Bond has lasted as long as it has, and it should be the same for Superman, and Batman.
There's a lot of matter-of-fact statements going around about this, but it's important to note that the source stated the third Wonder Woman film is only dead in its "current incarnation". It was just a treatment. No script has been written. There could very easily be another treatment down the line that will be green lit. Hopefully it comes from someone else, as Jenkins made a mess of the sequel once she was the sole creative shot caller. The first had a lot of Snyder's input.
I don't think they couldn't have any cast members from the old return, but smaller characters, like Viola Davis as Amanda Waller for example, but those big ones like Gadot, Cavill, Affleck, Momoa, Ezra, Fisher, I feel they need to be recast.
Especially in the case of Cavill, Gadot and Momoa. Aquaman made a billion dollars; people have clamoured for Cavill to come back as Superman for nearly five years now; Gadot has been mostly praised as Wonder Woman.
Just give them better stories. I don't think the baggage is as severe as people think it is.
If they are to recast, I hope they can the whole thing for a few years and let it rest for a while rather than diving right back in.
So yeah, I’m all for a clean slate. Sorry Cavill, it wasn’t your fault.
Another sad news about DCU.
Well yeah this sucks but whatever I was more hoping to see Keaton in a kingdom come type Batman story anyways but still pissed that we won’t get Batman beyond
I never knew this was a thing in the first place!
Well..., I knew.
I was a fan of the idea of Batman Beyond movie with Michel Keaton as old Bruce Wayne.
I certainly would have enjoyed it.

I definitely would like to see that.
