His scenes were cut because they implied a completely different relationship with Harley..
Super glad they were cut. I would always love more Joker footage but at the same time I don't like the Joker version where he wants to kill Harley...
You mean the version of Joker consistent with the comics? Yes, why would we want that.
Let's not bother showing the very disturbing dynamic Joker and Harley have, or the tragedy of Harley's character as she fawns over a man who only uses her for his own gain, and often takes it upon himself to lash out violently at her when she mucks up his plans for defeating his own source of obsession: Batman.
I'm sorry, but Joker and Harley are not a couple. Harley thinks they are, but Joker doesn't give a damn, and keeps her around for every reason but having a romantic inkling for her. It seems this movie went more freaking Casablanca than Mad Love with the pair, and that is just bullshit. They stripped away everything tragic and interesting about their dynamic in favor of making them seem like high school sweethearts.
Mad Love displays Harley's massive drawbacks and habitual victimization at the hans of her "puddin'", as well as Joker's cunning for manipulation and control, and his ability to feign care and devotion to get his way. It shows that what Joker is in love with is the idea of creating a masterful death worthy of Batman, not having any time with Harley; she's a rusty gear in his perfectly working machinery. That's the Joker/Harley story, and anything portraying it as anything but tragic and violent and mercurial isn't doing it justice.
As an audience we shouldn't be cheering for them, we should feel a lump in our throat as we watch a woman going after a man who constantly berates and beats her, and who she always ends up coming back to because he casts such a spell over her. People that ship them as a proper romantic couple are bonkers, and must have quite disturbing minds to find what they have to be appealing. You can't just take the fun lovey-dovey Harley parts of their relationship and pretend the cruelty and manic nature of Joker's rage and obsession with Batman don't factor in anywhere.
WB has taken what Paul Dini and Bruce Timm designed to be a cautionary tale of abuse and domestic violence and have spun it into a comic book romance. They should be ashamed.
Yes in some of the animated series and comics joker treated her like a side piece, slapped her around, tried to kill her multiple times...
Honestly though they cannot market that. They can't in their right minds make a movie with Joker constantly beating Harley Quinn. We will never get an R rated DC film ever. Its unfortunate, even though suicide squad was filled with cuss words it felt watered down and more like a family type film. It really seemed like they were trying hard to market this like it was a funny joke cracking film.
If you look at the trailers and look at Jokers outfits you can tell which scenes were cut and where they fit in.
It started out great when Joker turned Harleen into Harley and then it bounced into a romantic film.
I think there wasn't enough scenes to really develop how violent joker really is.. Original orgin showed his family being killed and he becomes a criminal... It's to bad they didn't show something involving that, maybe Joker looks at an old photograph of his wife and kids and you can tell Harley's just a rebound. Something like that.
I know what you mean and how you feel, to me it worked well with t

I've watched 6 episodes of Arrow.
I love it! It's great camp tv. Arrow's going to clean up the city. Good for him! Love his gf too.
I've moved her to first place on the superhero tv-cinema top girls list.
What's her name? Lanna Lance?
I'll check out Suicide Squad this week, if I can tear myself away from Arrow.
@CASINOROYALE;625146, Harley and Joker have been portrayed like that (in the best versions of them) since Dini and Timm created her. You aren't doing Joker and Harley justice if you leave all that tragedy and violence behind; that's all part of why Harley was so successful. She's now been looked at as a strong, independent kick butt character, when she's meant to be the opposite. She's as flawed as DC characters come, and who she is isn't anything to look up to. Hence, the cautionary tale. I don't think the people cosplaying as her in the thousands get that.
I don't think showing Joker and Harley's true relationship as it was originally conceived is too much for a film like this, either. If we have to deal with a murderous Batman and thousands of citizens dying in city destruction, we can deal with a nuanced and truly interesting dynamic between two characters that've made them a fixture of the comics and spawned so many analyses of them both since. This whole movie you get reminded of how bad all these people are, so show just how nasty they can be for crying out loud. They're not heroes, don't make it seem like it.
Not sure I agree on the Joker looking at a picture of his family idea, though. For one, I like that we don't know and he may not even know what his past is, and two, as much mystery that is retained about him and why he is what he is, the better. What has made Joker work for so long is that mystery. It's crazy to imagine how he got here, what of his backstory is true from the hundreds he gives Batman and the cops, and more. Take that mystery away from him and you take one of the best parts of his character along with it. I wouldn't put it past WB and DC at this point, though.
It seems like nobody can write Joker effectively anymore, or stay true to who he is. Nolan brought us a pitch perfect Joker with depth and danger, and wonderfully adapted the dynamic he and Batman have, making him one of the few standout villains in movies for so, so long now. It's hard to find truly good villains in movies now, and I think Joker was the last one that really left a proper impact, almost a decade ago now. Everything else falls flat in the face of Heath's portrayal and how Nolan and co. used the character. That's what all villains should strive to be portrayed like, given proper screen time to affect an audience and show off their layers.
I don't think WB/DC are up to it at this point, though. They're not interested in nuance, and every time they try to pull of a story with even a bit of intellectual elements in it, it all comes off as artificial and very pseudo-smart. A big issue is the new 52 origins of these characters too, which I think are garbage. What makes Harley interesting is that she is the one that becomes a clown to match Joker. It's her decision, symbolizing her utter dedication and unbreakable obsession with him. Now, Joker is the one who "creates" her, and that takes so much impact away from her as a character. They're only continuing to trash Joker as we speak in Rebirth too, with this "three Jokers" angle, and they're even going to reveal his identity. DC no longer know what is actually special about these characters, and they wonder why comics are a dying market. None of this makes me optimistic for the future, film or comics wise.
And Arrow's got a hot mother too! Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen!
And this show has been renewed for a 5th season too! So much viewing still to go.
Harley crazier than the joker? Please.
And Harley just comes off as annoying and irritating second time round. Besides the joker, she comes off as the most forced character in the movie. There were only 2 instances that I enjoyed from her...
On another note...
From THR
WB reacts to BoxOffice
"Warner Bros. says it is more than happy with Suicide Squad's launch. And studio distribution executive Jeff Goldstein says the Friday-to-Saturday drop is due to the fact that the movie took in $20.5 million on Thursday night, which was folded into Friday's gross. "From my perspective, this was an awesome weekend," he says.
In terms of its CinemaScore, Suicide Squad earned an overall B+, beating the ho-hum B grade for Batman v. Superman. And Goldstein notes that moviegoers under the age of 35 gave Ayer's film an A-, a good sign."
Hmm, where have I read this before? Oh yeah, right after BvS' opening weekend...
"There is no question this is an extraordinary achievement," said Warners domestic distribution chief Jeff Goldstein. "Clearly, audiences have embraced it and we are already seeing repeat business. It's just fun. Often, there's a disconnect between critics and audiences."

Both actresses play their respective characters with a feisty, humorous and unhinged quality but also with a hint of vulnerability. Moreover, they are both mesmerizing beautiful.
In fact, Harley's treatment at the hands of the Joker reminded me a little of Selina Kyle being bullied by Shreck, and one pivotal scene involving a transformation brought that memory home to me.
Man of Steel 2 in development.
It appears Justice League has finished filming for the most part so perhaps
We did. In 1978.
Obviously I mean in the modern age.
Though, I've been tempted to watch Superman Returns again. After all we've seen with this Superman, that film may fill a void I didn't know was going to be there years down the line.
Jor-El: "You human bastards! You killed my son!"
=))
The Voyage home except it's been blown to pieces.
Batman has to go back in time and bring two humpback whales to Krypton to save it.
:))
Just for part of the movie
Please excuse my shameless unknowledgability, I´m no comic book fan. I found Superman from MoS and BvS more interesting than what I saw before in films or books. When I watch a film I don´t want to have to have background knowledge of source material. Then I could as well read books and didn´t need a film.
