I shall quote myself again, because I'm still curious :-P.
better reboot ranking so far for me:
1.Casino Royale
2.Batman Begin
3.Star Trek
4.Man of Steel
5.AMazing Spiderman
This really is a bad, bad film. The action is meaningless, the characters I didn't care about, the flimsy rumour of a story has a `making it up as we go along' type attitude, characters like Lois Lane suddenly gets caught in the action, in a laughably bad sequence where she interacts with the ghostly Jor-El.
This was the first film since DAD that I have seen at the cinema and was ready to walk out half way through, in a mixture of disgust and downright boredom.
Given this 1/10 is being too kind. Man of Steel is one of the worst films ever made! Period!

I agree with a few of the complaints that @jetsetwilly made, most definitely. The characters weren't developed well at all, and the movie really did feel like it was stumbling along plot-wise.
That being said the action and much of the cinematography were top-notch, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Not liking it was one thing...but that's just wrong

It seems It's by no means a typical Christopher Nolan-film; it's not carrying the creative quality from the man. I haven't seen the film yet, but it saddens me to read things like 'joyless blockbuster that's only about the action and special effects'. It doesn't have the political/social relevance Nolan truly injected in his Batman films. But it also lacks the Bond-esque humour and charm portrayed by Robert Downey Junior in 'Iron Man'.
I think the problem could be director Zack Snyder. He isn't my favourite director. His movies, like 'Watchmen' and 'Sucker Punch' were just plain bores for me. Sorry to say this. For Nolan itself this must have been a hasty writing job. And it's also sad to see WB skillfully used Nolan's name for marketing purposes. Which obviously works money-wise. But the quality of the film is another story.
I truly expected a Batman Begins-like reboot of the Superman franchise. I guess so far I was wrong. I will judge myself next week.....
There is a reason why films like BB and TDK get such high ratings on RT, along with quality movies like SF, and why this film is struggling in the mid 50% region. It really is a bad film.
This shambles is light years away from Nolan's Batman reboot, and the Bond reboot. This piece of stinking garbage does something I didn't think would be possible. It actually makes Superman Returns look great.
Both my wife and I were ready to walk out of the cinema half way through, utterly bored out of our brains. Like I said earlier, I've only been tempted to do this with one other movie - DAD.

Giving the film 1/10 calling it the worst ever made? I respect everybody's opinion but my word...
I was a little disappointed by it too (I rated it 7 but its probably more of a 6) however I wouldn't be that harsh on it. Personally I think Kermode's review is dead on, its not as meaty or punchy as the Batman flicks (the first two particularly). There were a few good scenes and Russell Crowe is enjoyable but it did feel a bit...meh to me.
There's WAYYY too much action/CGI also.
Plus, is it me or does Henry Cavil look like an even prettier version of a certain Irishman? ;)

I can see some similarities with this and Die Another Day though (keep in mind I'm basing this off reviews however so my opinion doesn't mean much).
Bad character development, too much CGI, mixed reviews from critics while fans are more positive (I wonder if, like DAD, fans opinions will change over time?), etc.
Like I said. Nolan's name was overemphasized purely for marketing purposes. The directorial execution counts here....and that's what makes the movie bad.
