Worst Bond film?

Interested to know what everyone considered to be the weakest entry in the series is?

IMO, its Diamonds are forever. Connery on autopilot and looking uniterested. A terrible terrible Blofeld in Charles Gray. A awful climax with the action on an oil rig and the villian just being dropped into the sea. (I may have that wrong, its been a few years since I've watched it fully)

I think after the ending of OHMSS, producers had the chance to really have a vengeful bond go after his wife's killers. It could have been the main plot device and not just the pre title sequence.

I'd be surprised if there isn't a thread for this already, but for me that's not a problem. Just be prepared that it might be locked later on.

My vote goes to CR, but OHMSS really gives it a tough match. I think CR is a good and entertaining action movie, but as a Bond film it falls flat IMO. Add to that the fact that I like pretty much every other Bond film more, not only as a Bond film but as a regular movie. From my point of view CR is too emo and lacks too many Bondian touches.

The Man With the Golden Gun.

It tries so hard to be a Connery film it turns into a psychedelic snoozefest of a spoof.
The films plot is so unbondian you wonder why there was no real Bond vs. Assassin plot. It's humor is stupid and doesn't evoke laughs. The acting is aside from Christopher Lee is rather on and off. Moore comes off as very grumpy and seems to argue with Goodnight most of the movie. It's not a film I revisit frequently.
  • Ah sorry new to the board and didnt know what the rules were with repeating trends and topics.

Interesting that you dislike this movie. IMO it's pretty much perfect. I think it's a serious Bond film, a little lighthearted yes, but it's not DAF either. IMO the balance between seriousness and humour is perfect in TMWTGG. I also think it's very Bondian and the pacing is very good IMO. I love the environment in it, especially Scaramanga's island. I also think that the characters and actors are at an all time high: IMO Moore is perfect as 007, Scaramanga and is my favorite villain and Nick Nack my favorite henchman. I also happen to think that Goodnight is the best Bond girl ever and I like J.W. The only things lacking are IMO gadgets and possibly a major action scene.

Don't apologize, mate. I might be wrong and this thread won't be closed. Sorry if I sounded like a besserwisser before.

  • @ 007RM- Other than Britt being hot and a fellow Swede, please explain how her bumbling and highly incompetent character could be the best Bond girl when we have so many other Bond girls who are not only hot, but who have better acting skills and who play compelling characters?

I think the main problem with the film is that it was rushed. It came out right after Live and Let Die. I think it's the QoS of the 70's (In terms of being rushed, not bad.) I don't hate Golden Gun but It was rushed and it had lots of flaws, and I heard alot of Behind the scenes problems were the cause. It's just a weird film that didn't feel 100%

  • I think bringing JW back was a big mistake. Hoping that a gag from LALD would work again. It doesnt. It relies on a ridiculous coincidence that he is on holiday where Bond is. The flying car is also for me the invisible car in DAD of the Moore era

I think Britt Ekland was very funny and entertaining. And I think her acting skills are up there on the highest level. I mean, she really did play the role of a stupid agent in the best of ways IMO. That was perhaps the point. And she is also hot, but I wish she had more meat to the bone. All in all I think her character was a feast to my eyes, not only her looks but everything about her.

With the likes of MR and DAD around, sorry, don't agree.

I don't think it was a mistake, since I liked him in both films, but I don't think the film would suffer that much if he wasn't in it. Of course I prefer it the way it is. :D
