Wow! Peggy Lipton and Doris Day? Talk about a double blow.

I was a fan of "The Mod Squad" as a kid. And when I had reached my teens, I used to watch a lot of Doris Day movies on television or video tape, especially the films she did with Rock Hudson, James Garner and Rod Taylor.

R.I.P. Ms. Lipton! And R.I.P. Ms. Day!

    RIP Doris Day.

Oddly, growing up I mostly remember Doris Day from her 1968-1973 television show. To this day I associate Doris Day (and the song “Que Sera Sera”) with San Francisco because of this.

Now older, and having seen some of her movies (Calamity Jane, Pillow Talk, etc..), I think that she was actually underrated as an actress – and in her way quite sexy. And naturally her work on behalf of animal rights is legendary. Plus, anyone that can be name checked by the Beatles, Ringo Starr (solo), Billy Joel and Wham! in song is OK with me.

RIP to the great female superstar.

Bond related trivia to Miss Day. 2 years before Bond experienced his first ski chase in OHMSS, Doris played a secret agent in a film called Caprice where she was chased on skis. It was the best scene out of that particular film. I wish a clip of it was available on youtube.

For the record Charles Bennett, the writer of the later version of The Man Who Knew Too Much starring Doris Day, was also responsible for writing Casino Royale (1954).

I never knew that, @Tokoloshe2! Interesting fact there. I bought The Man Who Knew Too Much remake on DVD back in 2006 and watched it at the time. From what I remember it was a good film. I must dig it out again for a re-watch some time!

Slight correction: Bennett was responsible (well, co-responsible) for the first version in the 1930s. The screenwriter of the 1956 version was John Michael Hayes (who also scripted Rear Window and To Catch a Thief for Hitchcock).

The writing title card for the 1956 film reads, "Screenplay by John Michael Hayes, Based on a story by Charles Bennett and D.B. Wyndham-Lewis."

    The entire movie is here:

I didn't grow up with it, but the clips and episodes I've seen over the years were hilarious. He was so great at making others break character, a real master of his craft.

    RIP Doris Day.

The Jeremy Kyle Show - Not deserving of a RIP as it was terrible show (!) but it was part of the British tv landscape for so long - fourteen years - so I thought it was worth a mention. It was the British version of The Jerry Springer Show but Kyle was not as witty or likeable as Springer. I'm sure Kyle would be high up a list of most disliked Brits!

Niki Lauda has passed away. You may know him from the 2013 film Rush, portrayed by Daniel Bruhl. He survived a near fatal accident in 1976 that left him with third degree burns all over his body. He resumed racing in Formula 1 within 2 months of his accident, and added a 2nd & 3rd world championship to his list of achievements.
