My deepest condolences, @FoxRox. Grandparents are a treasure when they're good ones, and losing them is one of the greatest losses you can experience. They are relics of a time we increasingly take for granted and their wisdom and insights can be beyond life-altering. With how chaotic the world is now, their more old-fashioned and grounded perspective is indescribably valuable, and will only become more so as time goes on.

I sympathize with your position, having one grandparent left myself. Lost one grandfather early in my teens, which feels like a lifetime ago now, but lost my two dearest grandparents back to back in less than a year during my last years at college, I think because one couldn't live without the other for too long. You will see that a lot in older couples of that generation: when one dies, the surviving spouse doesn't last long afterward, as if their heart is literally broken. That's about the truest sign of love there is, when you can't imagine life without them.

My grandmother on my mother's side was my whole world, and sadly she lived far enough away that I only got to see her once or twice a year or on special occasions as I got older and had more obligations in my life. Didn't get to see her close to two years before she died due to work and schooling, and that's a lack of closure I think will always haunt me. What will never haunt me, however, is how much we meant to each other. Everything that is good inside of me is there because she helped plant those seeds and nurtured them to growth, and I'd give anything just to have another hour with her, to thank her for all that she did for me now that I've had years to reflect on just how impactful her life and lessons were on me.

You are in our thoughts, and we're always here for you if you should need it.

Thank you all so much. It doesn’t go unappreciated by me to see you take the time to say something kind. And I send back my own condolences to those who have lost family. Today is harder than yesterday for some reason, I guess it’s just sinking in more and more. Finding it difficult to concentrate on much else right now.

    My condolences too, @FoxRox.

I lost the last aunt on my Dad's side of the family this week. She was 96, but still it's sad that generation of the family has all passed on now.

@FoxRox Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Losing grandparents is tough. I'm very lucky to have 4 great ones who looked out for me. The two on my mom's side are gone, and miss them very much. As I said when my dog passed on just over a year ago, we are a blessed community. We aren't afraid to look out for each other here. I am thankful to you all who supported me after he passed. @FoxRox and others going through a tough time, know that there are people here who care about your well being.

Thank you very much. I definitely feel a strong bond and support system with some of the community members here, certainly those who have kindly acknowledged my losses. I’m lucky to have people who care.

Yes, this really is a great online community to be a part of. It has a good support system and it feels like extended family. We're stronger together.

Yes, though not a sports fan, I would tune in to watch Dickie on WorldofSport, on Saturdays, as it had an eclectic content, ("and now we go to Acapulco for Diving competition!")
and of course the wrestling with 'Big Daddy' and 'Giant Haystacks' Happy Days!

I used to watch wrestling on a Saturday morning, Big Daddy vs Giant Haystacks was legendary at the time, it was before I got into the WWF and years before the first Wrestlemania.

I was sad to see the obituary in The Times today of the former schoolmaster and British political historian DR Thorpe who wrote well-regarded biographies of the Conservative prime ministers Eden, Macmillan and Douglas-Home as well as former Conservative Chancellor and Speaker of the House, Selwyn Lloyd. He died of undisclosed causes on 2 February 2023, aged 79.

Sad news about Motty forever one of the most recognizable voices in Football. It does not seem that long since Motty's retirement. R.I.P.
