I'm so sorry to hear, @ToTheRight. It's never easy losing a pet when they're another part of the family.

And if there's anyone that knows about cats, it's Draggers.

Yes, see my avatar. It actually looks like my current pet cat Millie who I've had since she was a 5 week old kitten in September 2017. Perhaps this avatar, chosen in 2012, and which I have solely stuck with for many years now was a kind of prophecy of her coming into my life. She's easily the best cat I've ever had and such a little character in her own right. The dimensions of the cat in the painting are the same as my cat. The only difference is that she has a patch of white on her breast and on her paws and belly area. It's quite freaky really as the man in the painting also resembles me quite a bit. I do hope that painting isn't hidden away in my attic somewhere...

Sorry about your cat, @ToTheRight. I think I wrote this before when someone else's cat died, but I found the best way for not grieving too much is getting a new one (or more) as soon as possible. In early 2018 we had to let go our close-to-16-year old cats (a female and a tomcat) within a bit over a month. Cancer on the root of tongue of the former, kidney failure of the latter. It took us exactly five days without a cat to go to the nearest shelter and get two pretty females which were between 7 and 9 months old then. They're the loveliest creatures we can think of, and incredibly attached and totally peaceful.

Yeah, sorry to hear this, ToTheRight. The dogs and cats I've had have all been family to me (more so than some of the humans, tbh) and their loss is so hard. I know it's the price we pay for having them, but I'm really not sure I can pay it again. Cuts too deep. I know what it's like when you're the last one left too, so I can imagine how it feels for you with another connection to your girlfriend gone. Sorry again, mate.

I recall him being mentioned in P.E. at secondary school. It was the first time I'd heard of him. And there ended my high jump career. :)

Very sad news to learn of the passing of Lance Reddick.
A hugely likeable character actor, most notably for me as Charon in the John Wick films.
    RIP

NBA Hall of Famer Willis Reed has died at the age of 80.
    https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/35912570/new-york-knicks-legend-willis-reed-dies-80
    https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/21/sports/basketball/willis-reed-dead.html

As a New York Knick fan of a “certain age” this really hits hard. He was the NBA MVP in 1970 and NBA Finals MVP in both years the Knicks won the championship (1970 and 1973). The only championships – to date – that we Knicks fans have ever known.

To more causal sports fans he is best remembered for game 7 in the 1970 NBA Championship series against the Los Angeles Lakers. Not his performance mind you (he only scored 4 points), but for the fact that he played at all. After hurting his leg in game 5 and not playing in game 6, there was doubt that he would even suit up for game 7. And as both teams warmed up and took practice shots before the game, he was still back in the locker room. What happened next is one of the greatest moments in sports history:

As he warmed up, the players on the Lakers stopped and watched – seeming knowing that there was now no way that they could win. For the Knicks, on the other hand, his mere presence on the court was enough to inspire them to a win in the deciding game.
When asked about “why” he did it, years later Reed said (I’m paraphrasing):

“I didn’t want to be somewhere fishing years later and wonder “what if I had tried to play?” knowing that I didn’t.”

In the fifty-three years since that night, whenever an athlete plays through pain and leads his/her team to victory in a deciding game its’ now known as a “Willis Reed Moment.”

    RIP THE CAPTAIN, Willis Reed
And thanks for setting such an example.

    https://deadline.com/2023/03/erik-lomis-dead-movie-distribution-executive-mgm-1235307199/

"Lomis oversaw the distribution of several 007 films including Daniel Craig’s swan song, “No Time to Die,” as well as the Pierce Brosnan cannon “Goldeneye,” “Tomorrow Never Dies,” “The World Is Not Enough” and “Die Another Day” to name a few in a decades long working relationship with Eon Productions’ Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Lomis was the first distribution exec in Hollywood to pivot and protect “No Time to Die” from Covid, foreseeing the pandemic’s impact on global exhibition before other studios followed suit. Lomis held tight on the film, championing continually for the pic’s future theatrical release over any options for a streaming or theatrical-day-and-date PVOD release. No Time to Die was the fourth highest grossing movie of 2021 making over $774M worldwide. Lomis was also the host and a key organizer of Broccoli and Wilson’s tribute at last fall’s 2022 Pioneer Dinner.

The 007 franchise producer and Eon Productions Chief Barbara Broccoli shares with Deadline tonight, “We are absolutely devastated by the sudden loss of our dearest and most loyal friend Erik Lomis. He was a fierce supporter of theatrical distribution and handled each film with passion and care. He is irreplaceable. A part of the industry has died with him today.”

    A true EON ally.

Actress Marion Game, who had a long career in France, mostly in comedies, and had more recently played the part of Huguette in the sitcom Scènes de Ménage, has passed away, aged 80. I'll regret her. The couple she formed with Gérard Hernandez as her husband Raymond, is my favourite in that series.

Yeah, same here. Used to watch that For the Love of Dogs programme he did and you could tell he really did love and care about them. They knew it too, the way they used to react to him. It's generally a good idea to trust a dog's instinct about someone, I think, so yeh - really sorry to hear this.

I think it comes as a surprise to everyone. I heard that a friend of his went round to see him yesterday afternoon, and he was absolutely fine. So it must've been sudden, so at least he didn't suffer, there's that I suppose. I never saw For The Love Of Dogs, but I remember the afternoon show he did on ITV (I think it was ITV) and how heartbroken he was on the day where he announced that he had put his beloved Buster to sleep.

Its 15 years ago today, that my wife and I lost our twin girls. Time truly is a great healer, and in that time, I have changed as a person.
I can be more empathetic, but I also don't suffer fools lightly.
The loss of a loved one has a profound impact on us all.

We always try to have each other’s backs. That’s why I respect this site and keep coming back. My heart goes out to you @Benny there’s nothing worse than losing a child. We are here for you if you need help. It’s truly amazing that this site has human life that cares about each other as much as a fictional character. For that, I will ever be grateful.
