Taking your own life always tells a story of desperation, which makes it even more sad. What i always understand and loathe at the same time is, that once they are dead, all of a sudden, they get all the attention and all the "Oh, I feel so bad", but maybe those people, who actually knew him could have done something, when he was still alive.

unfortunately two of my friends committed suicide, no one saw it coming on both occasions. The ones who end there life you don't see it coming. Those who talk about it just need support and friendship.

Enjoyed Robin Williams from the first time we saw him in Mork and Mindy back in the seventies. I liked Jumangi too.
Very sad to hear that he battled depression like that. He was so upbeat and funny when we saw him. He even won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting.
    RIP Robin Williams

    Oh crap.
Just hearing this from you, Creasy.

I know she was getting on in years. I hope it was peaceful.

A true legend. Rest in peace, dear incomparable Lauren.

What a great two days this has been, eh?

How devastating... The Golden Age of Hollywood loses yet another veteran. Lauren was in a class of her own, the best of the femme fatales and one of the finest talents of her time as well as the spouse of the greatest actor of her time, Humphrey Bogart. The stories she could tell would cripple nations. She rubbed elbows with the greatest talents of her time, including Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe and the scores of Rat Pack members both new and old. The only shame is that I never got to meet her.

I think she would have really liked you, Brady. Sincerely.
Your appreciation seems spot on and down to earth.

More sad news with the passing of Lauren Bacall. A legend of Hollywood in every sense of the word. What a fantastic legacy of films she leaves us.
    RIP

Very few left from the Golden Age. It's a shame that the few survivors aren't lauded more publicly before they die. Now we're down to Luise Rainer, Maureen O'Hara and Olivia de Havilland (if you push it, Kirk Douglas squeezes in). After they're gone, an era has passed with no one left who remembers what it was like to live in the middle of it.

And, not as huge a star, but someone I admire who is still alive is Glynnis Johns. :)
And I would definitely include Kirk Douglass as one of the major movie stars from our past.
  • Sorry to hear about Bacall's passing too. At least she got to live to a full old age and die of natural causes.

I hope Miss Bacall´s soul has a good time, if where she is now time exists.

I was really upset about Robin Williams´ death. Suicide or not, he leaves such a giant hole in this world. He was miles ahead of any other comedian I can think of. He gave us the most amazing episode of Inside the Actor´s Studio.

  • R.I.P. screen legend Lauren Bacall. :(

RIP Lauren Bacall. TBH I've only seen her in a handful of films, most recently Dark Passage, but there's no doubt she was a very talented and unique actress who will be greatly missed. @};-

Nice to know there are some real assholes on both sides of the Atlantic who have been having their say on the death of Robin Williams.

None more so than that numpty Alan Brazil on TalkSPORT (in the UK). Never imagined I'd fully agree with what Stan Collymore had to say in response.

Some people would do best just to keep their stupid mouths shut.

R.I.P. Bacall, was incredibly hot in The big sleep as Vivian Rutledge. She will always be remembered for the films she made with Bogart, true movie legend.

If there is one positive that can come from Robin Williams passing, is bringing greater awareness to depression and mental health issues.

Lauren Bacall & Robin Williams a sad lose of those brilliant and original Hollywood stars, it does become a more average place without them. O:-)

    Lauren Bacall, Bogie's dame.

She was fantastic in The Big Sleep and all those other classics. Another icon gone. R.I.P.

Robin Williams could have played a part in a Bond film imo. An eccentric American sidekick in the Brosnan era perhaps ala Jack Wade where him and Brosnan make a jokey reference to Mrs Doubtfire. I can't believe he's gone. Such a great body of work to leave behind as well of course Lauen Bacall who also worled in Brosnan in The Mirror has Two Faces. Not the best week to be an ex co-star of PB!

I'd like to say I'm surprised by this news, but sadly I'm really not. The truth is that there are some utter scumbags within society.

Hopefully. Right now, the mere realisation that he suffered from depression makes me depressive :-(.

@WillyGalore, I just read this article while on the BBC news site. How horrendous that some sicko would send her photoshopped photos. !! Plus the other verbal comments that have been around. I do not blame her for leaving Twitter. If I were her, I may just go on a mountain hike or something and get away from all social websites and even main news for a little while. I hope Robin's family have more peace soon. I know many kind words have been said and with sincerity. It only takes a few sick jerks, though, to be so ugly and hurtful.

Stunned at the death of Robin Williams! Always think of him in Mork and Mindy growing up and the other was Mrs Doubtfire! Classic characters. Have to say aside from comedy i thought his other side was pretty impressive to in Good Will Hunting and his rather scarey portrayal in 1 hour photo. He should have done more stuff like that too.

Lauren Bacall sadly another loss from the Golden age of cinema!

    RIP to both!

Oh that stuff drives me nuts-- damn cowards! Those people should be exposed to the public and we'll se how they break under the first minute of ridicule. Many are human 'Jabba the Hutts' living with their parents at age 40
