Well that's very strange, can't see where he's coming from at all there.
I know he has said that he regards Temple of Doom as Spielberg's best directed film, and I can't disagree with that. It's not his best film, but his craft in that one is absolutely at its peak.

Tarantino not only prefers KOTCS but it seems he doesn't like TLC:

Just heard about this, highly amusing.

I also feel Last Crusade has the weakest opening. The other three are all stellar in that regard.

Agreed. Personally, though, I've never been a fan of prequel bits where all the indicators of what makes a character are suddenly realized. It just feels too easy. No doubt this was a defining moment in Indy's life but it's all way too convenient.

It's the tone and nuance that matters here. It's playful, but also plants the seeds for the rest of The Last Crusade. The opening is not trying to out action the first two Indy films, it is deliberately taking a fresh path, one which supports the rest of the film, which is the most character based Indy film. It's just good and smart storytelling.

That's a good way of looking at it. Crusade's prologue does set up the relationship between Indy and his dad which pays off later on. By contrast with the first two, it's a film about family, which is of course a very Spielberg thing.

Possible spoilers, but a fun guessing game.

Those setpieces look amazing, but the de-aging technology has to be steps above 'The Irishman'

Lucasfilm is often praised (and criticized) for using special effects over story. Hopefully they will be able to blend the two in here. Yes, the set pieces look amazing. I am interested to see Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s Indy Woman.

I feel confident it'll be pretty good. Luke Skywalker looked great, and it will have moved on from that in the intervening time. Plus it looks like a lot of those scenes will be in the dark :D
The only question is to whether any young Indy stand-ins (if that's how they do it) will be able to move like Ford: he's very distinct in his movements.

I've often felt there's a bit of Ford in the way Tim Dalton moves sometimes, does anyone know what I mean? The sort of legs-bent, chest forward, slightly unsure of himself movements.

I can see that. Thankfully, their movements made the characters look and seem more human. They’re both very natural styled actors.
  • I'm liking the look of a lot of the action. It seems that a lot of the vehicle stunts are being done practically, which is always nice to see.

@mtm just read your above observation and agree totally. They have a similar gait (edit: sp corrected!), and it pushes out their rear (and chest becomes a little barrel); and there’s an extra lower body wiggle, the faster they move, 😂.

I’ve always thought they moved similarly.

Yeah, there's a bit where he's in his bedroom in Sanchez's house (I think it's the slightly farce-y bit where he's trying to hide that Lupe is there) and he's really whirling around just like Ford would.

When you have the greatest film composer of the last forty years saying he wants to score a Bond movie I do hope EON are listening. Although as the next Bond is probably four years away Williams will be mid-nineties by then. Hopefully still going strong

John Williams unveils the first music from Indy 5, and gives us the name of Waller-Bridge’s character too.

Why does Raiders use the Mexican goddess Tlazolteotl as a Chachapoyan idol? The movie is ruined for me.

Liking that music. I'm more excited for INDY 5 than most films coming out.

I don’t care if he’s 100 when the next Bond is being scored, I would welcome Williams aboard in a New York minute.

It’s good isn’t it. I like that it actually feels like a bit of a return to the lush romantic Hollywood feel the first two Indy films had, and perhaps the next two lacked. I have a good feeling about this film.

Some very cool concept art and costumes from the film have gone on display at D23:

I believe (might be mistaken) that the Lucasfilm panel starts in half an hour, so if there's any Indy news (surely a title at least!) then we should have it by a couple of hours' time.

They showed a trailer which went down very well, but no sign of a title yet. Or it's just called 'Indiana Jones', but I feel like they'd have actually said if it was called that.
