'James Bond - A Cultural Phenomenon' lesson -- Help needed!

As part of a course at school, I'm giving a short 10-minute lesson on James Bond this friday. I want to talk about the cultural footstep he's left behind: what has he created in the world beside the films and the books, what do people remember.

What do you guys think should defintitly be discussed? I'm already looking into populair images (gunbarrel, golden girl, oddjob) and thinking about doing something about the changing times in which he has existed, and how that changed his appearance. But I really don't know wich angles I want to light yet.

Also: If anyone has any articles/documentaries about James Bond as a cultural images, I'd love to take a look at them!

    The copying and Bond spoofs of the '60's are worth a mention. They're many of them to list and talk about. Bond's style - anything apart from the dinner jacket - should be mentioned to. There's a great blog on that here:

    Thanks, Samuel! Yes, I think I'll be able to talk about his style, maybe compare the styles of for instance Roger Moore when arriving in Rio to Daniel Craig when arriving in the Bahamas.

    Another one is how women have evolved in the series too, also how Bond is set in current events of the times, and also gadgets of the future when on release?

    Anything apart from the films themselves should make this talk interesting to an outsider, as films is all they think there likely is to the series.

    The mega popular book sales of the '50's and '60's also played a part in Bondmainia.

    Also that they were pure escapism for people, that they also changed the movies and created a whole new type of movie genre.

    Yes, Bond is a genre of film by itself, a most important point to make.

    If you want to compare arrivals, be sure and look at DN and FRWL, where there is announcement of his planes' safe arrivals to the airports of departure! Jet travel was still exciting and new then, and beyond the means of most movie-goers.
