OHMSS is a great film, with a wonderful story based on a great book, with an excellent Bond-girl, breathtaking locations, great stunt work, absolutely top soundtrack, it has drama and action in right amounts, the list could go on and on. Of course it has many flaws and the biggest of them all was the main actor, sadly. But still it is one of the best Bond films in my opinion (and I'm obviously not alone) and I'm happy it got a good place in this pole.
But you'd agree that most people your age couldn't match your knowledge of classic films. That's his point. It's statistically true that people are more likely to embrace films of their generation than those of previous generations. Not generalization.

This one is odd for me, FRWL in 7th place? Should never be out of the top 3 in my opinion. the last 5-6 would also be misplaced if I made the list (DAD, MR and AVTAK in around the middle makes me cringe). The mi6 results seem to be much more equilibrated in my opinion.
But, just like @0BradyM0Bondfanatic7, I'm not like the other "young" 21-year-olds such as myself. I am in love with the older Bond films - they're some of my favorites, and I would say a majority of them are on my Top 10 - and older films in general. Don't generalize a group of people when you don't know all of them.
OHMSS isn't my favourite but it has always been in my top 10. I think it has great music, I think Lazenby did really well (especially when you think about how he'd never acted before), the sets are great, the music is great, the action is great and the ending is one of the best in the whole series.
There's one problem I have with OHMSS: The angels of death story is just stupid. I mean, brainwashing? It's just too sci fi, like MR or DAD's plot.

How is brainwashing Sci-Fi? A technique that's been used for hundreds if not thousands of years is stupid and sci-fi! Actually very plausible.
We're actually really lucky to have so many films with such a different and varied tone and style between them, all featuring our favourite hero.
It wouldn't be my ranking, but it's not far off.
I've never heard any stories about it actually happening. Maybe not sci fi, but unrealistic.
Ever heard of religion?
Do you think these Islamic fundamentalists are born wanting to blow themselves up?
With the Angels of Death, they just had Blofeld talk to them when they were sleeping and suddenly they were lethal weapons.
I thoroughly agree with you. This is what cults do, maybe not as dramatically but this is Hollywood after all. The AOD's would probably never willingly do Blofeld's bidding. I see no comparison to MR where these so-called "perfect specimens" (a running joke like most of the film) wanted to be a part of Drax's plot. DAD was merely building and reinforcing a new persona, again they wanted to do that.
Hypothetically speaking, if not another single Bond film was ever made again, and this list was re-polled in 50 years time, I doubt CR or GE would rank so highly. I'm not slighting those films, I just think those films are more 'current' and were generally well received, so they are still 'hot' in people's minds.
OHMSS probably wouldn't have polled well in say the 70's or 80's, but that film has earned a respect over time for being a very solid film, even if it wasn't popular at the time.
Thank you sir, thank you very much! I too do not highly enjoy On Her Majesty's Secret Service! Welcome to the "OHMSS Dislike Club"! Glad to have another member to our exclusive party! (there aren't many of us, sadly)
The fact that that CR appears on so many top-5 lists I think indicates its broad general appeal among cross-generations of Bond fans, even if it might not top a list of the most #1 votes, although it might. I'm not sure which film would top that list.
The reason for that is because it's an awesome film.
Or because people just go with the flow of popular opinion around here when it comes to OHMSS.
Sorry but all I would like clarified is does appearing in someone's top 5 carry equal weight for each film or do positions 1-5 within that top 5 count for different points depending on the ranking? This is not made clear in the article - however few words it has for my tiny brain to process.
I guess of the 15k who voted only a tiny percentage post on these forums because although I think most of us respect GF for what it did for the series I don't see a great deal of love for it on here and find it's position at number 2 rather surprising.
Not true for OHMSS as far as I am concerned. I don't follow the pack anymore than anyone else. Many of your peers see the value in this film. Although I fail to see why people are fans of Lazenby, otherwise the rest of the cast and their performances are as great as a movie gets, breathtaking cinematography, a killer soundtrack, and a story that has a major influence on the Bond character portrayed mostly the way Fleming himself wrote about and would have approved of. The problem is with those who prefer tons of flying bullets over a touching, meaningful, and personal story. The Bond classics mix action to augment the story, which is why you don't get it. But I know you are young and I have hope that someday the light bulb will come on for you between this and GF :)
Absofreakinglutely. And without vaseline to boot :D
Seems a bit harsh on the poor donkey chaps!
#2-9 should have been #1-8 more or less in the same order with (CR can be thrown is as #4). Also, Moonraker wasn't as bad as A View to a Kill. Even with the campiness, it was an entertaining film, while A View to a Kill was almost painful to watch (Walken saved the film).
