Have you seen him in the previews for Django Unchained. He plays a good guy but he's such a great actor. He's playing Gorbechav in the upcoming move about the Cold War.
I could see him as head of a certain organisation.. easy.
Why? He can do action and I think he's proven he can adjust (he went from the Mariachi trilogy to kids films to Machete!).
I LOVE(d) Rodriguez, and a couple of years ago I suggested him as a Bond director myself. But since then I've started doubting.
First of all, he seems to be getting sloppy lately. Too caught up in the 'cheap filmmaker' image that was created around him when he did El Mariachi. He starts cutting too many corners, and it shows in his films. Machete is fun, but it doesn't bring much to the table, Spy Kids 4 was a horrible mess, and those other kids movies didn't do him any favors either.
Plus, we shouldn't let him write the scirpt (not that director's do that for a Bond film anyway) because his films are always very simple and rely very heavily on action! The ones that have a good/layered story with engaging characters are the ones he didn't write himself (From Dusk Til Dawn by Tarantino and Sin City based on the comics by Miller)
Also, I've yet to see anything glamorous from Rodriguez. Spy Kids has a bit of it, but it's hammed up through the roof! He's amazing at creating this almost western vibe, but that doesn't fit 007.
He also doesn't really know how to work with a high budget or with a studio/producers that aren't giving him a lot of freedom. So he can't be free in his directing, which I think is one of the most important things for him to be!
I think it could be a very interesting Bond film if Rodriguez directed, but we'd have to get Rodriguez in his mid-late 90's flow, with a good script, and he'd still have to convince me on character and style! However, I would love a Bond film set in Mexico, with some of Rodriguez' regulars appearing. Especially Trejo and Michelle Rodriguez, maybe also Banderas and DeNiro, or Willis as Blofeld :D
Zero chance Mendes will return IMO. May be in a film or two but even then v unlikely.
Right now, I stand by what I've always maintained for almost a year now, get Mendes back to do Bond 24.
I hate to be the guy who destroys the people thinkings, but, and if Skyfall is not a good movie? (I know it will be, just a supposition)
David Yates
Kenneth Branagh
Danny Boyle
Oooh I hope. That's a good pick. His Potters were the best.
1) Skyfall is going to be a great film.
2) Daniel Craig is signed up for 2 more Bonds.
3) Pre-production has already started in some form on Bond 24.
Now let's look at two more supposed facts;
- Craig got the ball rolling with getting Mendes on board for Skyfall and the rest followed.
- Broccoli says she wants to shoot the next Bond in India!? Well some of it.
Taking into account the above - my hunch is; Maybe they have been able to go straight into pre-production on Bond 24 because Craig has got Danny Boyle (whom he shot the Olympic footage with etc) on-board to shoot 'Bond 24'!!! Boyle of course was critically praised for Slumdog Millionaire which was predominantly set in India. I'd say Mendes would also come back for 'Bond 25'.
Ultimately, it all depends on whether Mendes wants to return.
Like Vaughn Tarantino etc lol :P
Why make your own franchise when you can contribute to the greatest franchise there's been!
But, with the way things are shaping up now, I would prefer to see Mendes return for 'Bond 24.' Like another poster stated, gives Craig some continuity to go on.
I think we'll also start get casting rumors in the summer that we can be confident with.
Never trust plot rumors; never trust location rumors until deep into production.
He hates British people, especially Timothy Dalton apparently. So I don't think we'll be getting a Bond film from Max anytime soon.
I actually like the latter very much (his films that is) but... no.
NO NO NO to Gibson. Don' want a racist directing Bond. Plus any enemy of Tim Dalton is an enemy of mine!
He was the stepdad of Daltons son.
May I ask you why, and what does it matter?
:-S :!!
- The Spy Who Loved Me
- Goldeneye
- Casino Royale
- Skyfall
And can they PLEASE put Bond back in a modern Aston Martin--the new Vanquish???
