I suppose I'm on the fence-- I mean, all the Indiana Jones movies do and I love them, but does such a thing belong with Bond?
As juvenile as I found the Moore films even at that age I would always *try* to watch one of his films when they came on TV (usually needing to bail after about 20 minutes). I do recall finding the voodoo ceremony in the beginning of LALD surprisingly creepy.
Although some of the voodoo stuff in LALD was pretty creepy.
And the creepy clown (Jaws) stalking Manuela down the alley. I'm not one of those people that's scared of clowns, but THAT was a scary clown.
Even worse than Samedi's head cracking when shot was AFTER that his eyes roll up! That would have freaked the sh!t out of me when I was 13.
on a serious note -
Probably in general , my scariest villain would be Sanchez in general, he just killed anybody who got in his way due to his constant paranoia, and it made me think to myself, "I would not want to be near this guy, although he was cute.
Secondly the PTS in FRWL had a eerie, suspense building theme, the green bush maze and the night sky brought a scary feel to the scene as well, giving you the impression Bond (not really bond) was vulnerable and in a cat vs mouse scenario.
Also in CR, the torture scene must have horrifying for all you guys :)
In any event, as it is February - not October - as the title suggests, let's have a last look at what may constitute actual Bond scares before this thread really does get into silly territory
When Dent has to pick up the tarantula cage from the table under Dr No's orders
The 'Zabora' ? gorilla change in Diamonds are Forever. I don't know, maybe it's just stupid above all else, but there is something unnerving about it
Seeing Plenty drowned in the pool. Just wasn't a nice way to go, that's all, and most people will have an inherent fear of drowning
The whole voodoo angle of Live and Let Die. The Mr Big character, the scarecrows, just a foreboding feeling throughout for the most part
Having the Stromberg secretary eaten by Sharks - to classical music
Corrine Dufour eaten by Dobermans
Vijay killed by Gobinda and henchmen, Octopussy
Seeing a 57 year old James Bond in A View to a Kill (I did try, but - )
Robert Davi in License to Kill, and even at times, Dalton himself -
Vesper drowning in Casino Royale. Maybe it was more sad than anything else, but some may have found it unnerving. See the Plenty (O' Toole) incident -
after that, nothing else really stands out I'm afraid
Unless of course they made it back to the US mainland and were headed for somewhere else, but it's a bit late at this hour to be thinking rationally you understand
Damn embarrassing as it's my favorite release and seen it how many times, I don't know
---
I thought they were back in the U.S. at the point. Going from Louisiana to....
They most definitely were not in San Monqiue. On the topic, was San Monqiue suppose to be Haiti? Also, while I did love Live and Let Die, they butchered Ian Flemming's Mr. Big.
If the series truly did reboot, I would not mind seeing a Live and Let Die remake that is faithful to the book.
Agreed, I hope someday EON remakes all of Fleming's books minus CR, faithfully following the books and portraying Bond as he really is. A modern remake of LALD would be awesome if it stayed true to the book.
Funny, a certain member on here who people who have accused you have being had the same idea.
Yikes ! same here Dimi, I don't want to sound mean or harsh, but what in the hell was EON thinking when they cast Mayday (grace Jones) !?! does anybody on here find her sexy? I would be surprised if anyone on here does
Sounds a little...POLITICALLY CORRECT. Doesn't it?! One of your greatest peeves. /:)
Don't feed the trolls. ;)
I haven't been. I'm choking him. >:)
:-&
Remember what @DarthDimi said. If you don't speak to him/her. they will soon get bored and leave.
Yes, because it has worked so well the last 5 times (sorry for sarcasm). It simply isn't his aim to anger us until we just stop noticing him, whereupon he leaves and goes to wreak havoc elsewhere. If that was the case, why, even after we ignore and ban him does he always keep on returning to do more of the same? Your logic doesn't apply to this situation anymore, I'm afraid. He must be an evolved species of troll, and one that keeps returning days after its ban and no longer flees back under its bridge to lick wounds for a few weeks before rising again.
You should read his blog. =))
I'll also add my votes for the spider in DN and Krest's balloon head in LTK as among the more horrifying moments in the series.
Would audiences really be frightened today of a Bond viewing, such as the content of some movies released now, and kids today, can easily get access to things they maybe shouldn't be looking at, and would see any occurence in a Bond film, as nothing much to get worked up over. Today it's about action, first and foremost, any other elements such as humor or scares itself, come a poor second
I ask myself now, When was even the last time I got scared, or alarmed etc, in a Bond release with one outstanding moment ?. 1977 with the release of The Spy Who Loved Me in theaters, when Kiel is discovered on the train. There hasn't been one other occasion I can truly remember that stood out such as that, although there were one or two moments in License to Kill that did come close, but they weren't sudden frights, as Kiel was. You could see what was coming, in that, it lessened the impact
Bond scares today are a thing of the past. Some will welcome it, some may want a return. I don't think they're even necessary today. If people want scares, go take in a slasher movie or something. Bond today isn't the place to accomodate
In any event, me and my wife have things to do, so it's a goodnight
*Jaws randomly appears*
