creating the gun barrel...

HASEROTHASEROT has returned like the tedious inevitability of an unloved season---

those of you who have followed my graphic work on here, know that i have tons of Bond graphic design work.... but i also love dabbling in motion graphics and film as well..... well, i guess i am taking my nerdery to a little higher level now, as i am in the process of creating my own James Bond Gunbarrel sequence in After Effects.... here is a still of what i got thus far - i don't want to post a vid of it, until i can find someone (and not my hefty arse) to actually do the walk/turn/shoot, and i gotta still add the blood of course..

<a href="http://smg.beta.photobucket.com/user/djx187/library/"; target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/djx187/Screenshot2012-11-01at33618AM.png"; border="0" alt="Photobucket"/></a>

I know it's not the traditional gun barrel of Binder/Kleinman - and it resembles a little more of the MK12 from QOS - but it's my first attempt lol..... i wanted something (for my personal taste) a little different than just the normal circle gun barrel opening, so i added in those ridges.. i've seen similar designs before on youtube, and i like it... probably not the most realistic, but i don't care lol.... i even added a subtle rotation to it as it follows Bond across the screen - again, not going for total realism lol..

i am making this, because i have been longing to do my own James Bond short film - just for fun of course, not that i could show it off anywhere but youtube probably lol - trouble is finding local actors/actresses who would do just a fun (unpaid) project such as this without the chance of it being shown anywhere :( ... and none of my buds i feel have that 'Bond' look - i would do it - except with my weight, i'm like 2.5 Bonds rolled into one person lmao.... but we shall see - even though it would be a 'just for fun' project, it's one that from an artistic/cinematography standpoint i would take seriously...

    Nice work so far, Haserot.

I started making a 3D gunbarrel for my Bond anim a while back, and posted a screenshot in my fan thread if you're interested. It's pretty much the sterile QoS texture on the barrel, but no doubt I'll redo it again later:

For me, it's no problem with finding a suitable Bond for the walk- as I'll just make a model of Craig (the whole film will be CGI). Regarding the walk-on, are you going for Dalton's casual stroll on screen, or Craig's power walk? ;) One thing I found is the oozing blood is by far the hardest part of the sequence to animate. Unless you've got a program or script that can simulate dripping fluid (not too familiar with After Effects), it may take some working out. My first attempt seen me spending days creating a hundred or so individual frames just to get what I thought looked realistic. It's still looks too strobe-like- might need to double up the frames. If you figure out an easy way to get the blood to flow smoothly, much kudos to you :) By the way, I'm making my barrel sequence in Autodesk Maya with the aid of Photoshop.

Looking forward to seeing your barrel in action. Are you going to have it open up to a beaut Bondian landscape?

PS: I don't think Haserot intended it to be a tutorial, but rather showcasing his own personal work.

Once again Sam's rather scary knowledge of all threads means this one can get a lock up.
