    i am actually 2 books away from completing this set (sort of)... I only need Goldfinger and The Spy Who Loved Me....... I don't own copies of Octopussy or For Your Eyes Only - as back when QOS came out in theaters, they released a QOS edition with all the short stories in one book - so I bought that one..

    @haserot, I only have four or five of the Penguin editions, and one of them is GF. I have bad OCD when it comes to things like this, so I really want to round out the Penguin editions instead of those terrible new editions they have with the dull, uninspired covers. But, I feel like these days I'll settle with whatever, just so I can own the entire collection.

    I despise those new covers.... i love both the Penguin editions and the hardcover ones with the girls - it has a nice retro feel to it that i love..... the new covers are dull, uninteresting, and uninspired pieces of garbage - right on the same level as the covers for Devil May Care, Carte Blanche, and Solo (US editions respectively).

    Thanks for sharing these snippets with us, @007inVT. I'm accumulating the US editions and loving them, but haven't found a one with the intros. Now at least I've had a taste of them!

    I did own all of those in that edition but about two years ago I was struggling with money so I was forced to sell them. :-( I only read Casino Royale and Live and Let Die. I want to buy back Casino Royale as well as From Russia With Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and You Only Live Twice (the ones I was really looking forward to).

    My quest for the American editions of the Penguin Centenary Collection (with those really fabulous Richie Fahey covers) continues. I just found a copy of OP&TLD! Now I only need TSWLM and TMWTGG. Of course, then I'll still be looking for QoS, just for completeness' sake. Ah, the agony & the ecstasy of collecting...

    I too have a Great Pan for LALD, though I think it must be a later edition than that as it has completely different artwork, albeit of the same type of scene with Bond and Solitaire and the exploding ship The Secatur in the background.

    Sadly I only own seven James Bond novels (CR, LALD, DAF, DN, MR, YOLT and OHMSS) and all of them in German (Scherz publisher).
    I bought them in a second hand bookshop... But I want all the novels in English for my next nirthday - I just saw them in a bookshop here!

    Any Bond aficionado worth his salt knows that Richie Fahey's fabulous artwork make these Penguin editions the third best ever cover designs.
    The best being Richard Chopping and the second best being Raymond Hawkey's great covers for Pan books.
    As previously mentioned in this thread, Random House have made a complete pig's ear of both Fleming's work and the continuation Bonds.

    Thanks for the kind words, @Villiers53. Yes, Richard Chopping's original covers for the first edition hardcovers are the greatest the Bond series has ever received. From what I've seen of Raymond Hawkey's work it's very nicely designed but doesn't have the unified look from one title to the next that both Chopping and Fahey utilize (each in his own way.) If what I've seen online doesn't match the editions you're referring to, I'd appreciate a link to the images you have in mind.

    Just last night, I finally located a copy of TMWTGG in the Fahey series. HUZZAH! My collection is now complete -- except for the QoS package that I'm led to believe is out there somewhere. The Neverending Search continues...but to some extent, I am now satisfied.

    I was fortunate enough to get my hands on this recently.

    I've been scooping up the First Edition Library editions wherever I can find them. Also managed to grab a Cape 1st/1st Thunderball hardback. albeit without the dust jacket.

    That one was on eBay, it was listed a few times, and didn't get any bids, which really surprised me, since I've seen copies sold for a couple hundred dollars. So I made a very modest offer, and I was pleasantly surprised it was accepted!

    @BeatlesSansEarmuffs, I'm not sure what you've looked at but if you go to www.catspawdynamics.com/James-bond-the 1960s-pan-covers you can see all of his work for PAN and their paperback Bond covers.
    They were the first series of designs to use modern typefaces (Helvetica & News Gothic) and minimalistic imagery that included photographs . His decision to put JAMES BOND above both the book title and author name resulted in simple, conceptual and iconic covers that remain fantastic examples of design.
    Hawkey started with 'Thunderball' in 1963 and completed a uniformed set of covers that dominated book shelves. The only break with uniformity from '63 on were the film covers that understandably popped up from time to time.
    In my opinion:
    Best Bond covers = 1) Chopping. 2) Hawkey 3) Fahey
    Best Spy cover = 1) Chopping for 'FRWL' 2) Hawkey for 'Ipcress File'
    In any event, they don't make them like that any more.
