Felix Leiter should remain the same actor

edited December 2012 in Bond 26 & Beyond Posts: 122
Felix Leiter as changed actor more times then Bond or even Dr Who. But if they bring him back I feel they should at least try to stick to Jeffrey Wright if they can. Plus it would be grate to have the character in more Bond films as he was such a good allie to Bond over the years missed out of Skyfall most of the Moore era and all of the Brosnan era. But it was grate to see him back in CR and i feel we should see more of him in up and coming Bond films longs while Craigs is atn the helm the keep the same actor to play him.

I certainly would like Jeffrey Wright to return as Leiter should the charactor be used again during Craig's tenure?

Actually wouldn't mind seeing Live And Let Die redone with him in it as Felix.

I agree, Wright has taken the character to a new level and it would be a shame if he didn't return in later films.

Worked out pretty well in the case of Casino Royale. :)

I would hardly call CR a remake of the comedy. They're just too different.

But there was no official Casino Royale until Craig. The American tv film with Nelson & Lorrie, and the 1967 spoof i don't really count.

Just a bit of wry humor, more than anything else. Besides -- how do you know I wasn't talking about the 1954 CBS production? :-P

    Carry on.

RogueAgent i agree the other two Casino Royales do not count and that spoof in 1967 what a seeming pile of buffalo dung it does not even have place in the dvd collection

:)) I do own a copy of the 67 spoof, so that i have a copy basically. But it is a mish mash mess of a movie. As for the CBS B&W tv outing? I thought it was an interesting take on what i am used too. Where Bond is American and Leiter was a Brit! That did make me chuckle, and also with that i am trying to obtain a copy of that edition too?

    Great soundtrack, though!

I count six actors who played FL in seven films (DN, GF, TB, DAF, LALD=LTK, CR). Am I missing any?

    no i don't either
in the spy game you need some mates
  • Wright was great as Felix and I really hope they bring him back for Bond 24 and give him a larger role in it than he did in QoS.

I'm not saying Wright isn't returning I hope he does but BB recent meeting with Idris Elba makes me think he could be being considered for the new Leiter.

I guess we'll find out come Bond 24 as I'm sure he'll return.

Completely disagree. Whilst I like the character Felix, his appearances have been just about right. Remember they are Bond movies and not the James and Felix double act show.

Wright is the best Felix since Hedison. He better be allowed to stay in the role.

I hope that they don't go with Elba for several reasons. First of all I think it's important to keep up continuity in this re-bot era as much as possible so they should stick with Wright for that reason alone. Second, I think Wright did a great job as Lighter and I'd like to see him explore the character further. Also, on a patriotic note, because I'm American I'd like to see the role remain in the hands of a yank, and not turned over to a limey. Finally though, I think Elba would do better as either a villain or as a member of the MI6 staff, perhaps as Robinson?

We don't need Robinson. We've got M, MP, Q and Tanner.
  • Idris Elba would be a superb Leiter, he can do the southern accent and everything. But for continuity's sake I'd rather they stuck with Wright.

Yes, the very first in "Dr. No", the one in "Thunderball" and Hedison's LTK were the best. Wright is ok and original. But it should definitely remain the same. I'd still prefer a Leiter close to the real book description rather than a new fashionable actor (light brown haired, blond haired, then black haired and finally black person, what's after ?), however, his storyline must be more active, as in LTK. I don't blame, I'm just purist... But if Wright does comeback, I'd be happy. He's good at it thanks to his connivance with Craig.

Charles Robinson was cool in particular in TWINE and DAD, when he was in the pitch and had action. But he'd be a waste of character in Craig's films.

Aaron Eckhart should have been cast as Felix Leiter if you want it to be right...

When ever we talk about allies, I weep at the thought of knowing they killed off Mathis!! Damn you!

I know! It's almost as bad as Kerim Bey's death in FRWL. I would love to have seen him again, but I think the actor died shortly after filming. as much as I want to see Liter back again, I'd also like to see a new ally modeled after Kerim Bey to feature prominently in Bond 24 or 25.
  • About Mathis. They made a huge mistake. Mathis wasn't killed off in the novels. Yes, he was blinded by Le Gerant in NDOD novel, but wasn't killed. What were Purvis and Wade thinking?

As forced as this may sound, Cinematic Mathis was old enough to possibly have a child who could be around Bond's age, born to a French woman and Bang! We have a French Mathis for the movies.
