Backing out of two film projects in a row could lead to a slightly marked reputation, could it not?

Perhaps, but you probably know what I'm going to say. The positive reputation he's gained during Bond can soften any blow of walking away from "normal" films. Granted, it's not ideal for the filmmakers (by any means), but I think for now - as someone has already said - he's probably happy on stage and films that he can afford to spend time on. I reckon he probably just got over ambitious.

TGWTDT was by no means a masterpiece, I still prefer the original series that were superiour to this Fincher piece, who undoubtely enjoyed the originals too but added little to what the tv show did better.

Craigs non-Bond movies have been not that great. Is that because he picks them wrongly or because he can chose artfilms due to his massive paycheck from the 007 franchise?
Comparing Craigs and Brosnans movie always ends in a bashing, overal I must admit that Brosnans output is more stellar than Craigs in recent years.

Perhaps Craig lacks the charisma as a leading man somehow outside of the franchise, after all 007 is the bigger of the two?

I'd never call TGWTDT a masterpiece but apart from Noomi Rapace's Salander I'd say Fincher delivered everything else superior to the Swedish version, for instance Blomvist isn't supposed to be swaggering about looking smug like Michael Nyqvist is. He's supposed to be deflated, having had his ego battered by the libel case that's left his credibility in tatters.

Craig nails this perfectly plus his chemistry with Mara is much better than the dynamic between Nyvquist and Rapace.

Also Niels Arden Oplev's has obviously referenced both Se7en and even more Fincher's undeniable masterpiece Zodiac, Oplev's no Fincher. I remember him bad mouthing the DF film but he follows it up with a by the numbers Hollywood film with Rapace and Colin Farrell.

If the sequels ever get made by Sony they won't have to try to hard to top the Swedish TV films that got made, they were hugely disappointing and Thomas Alfredson's brother Daniel obviously lacks the talent of his more gifted sibling.

I would imagine a comment or statement will have to be made as to why DC has walked away from the role? But as other's have said? If that means he spends more time on pre-production on Bond 24? I am all for it! :-bd

Perhaps he rather likes the contrast of being at the attention of the World with Bond and the small room a theater play provides.

He also strikes me as someone who won't bullshit you if he doesn't have something to bring to the project. Maybe that was the case here.

Craig did some great work before Bond but since he took the role I don't think he's really done anything really good apart from his Bond films. Dragon Tattoo was decent enough but that's about it imo. I thought Cowboys and Aliens and Dream House were poor.

Brosnan was Bond for seven years and during that time he made the Thomas Crown Affair and Tailor of Panama. Craig has been Bond for seven years now and I don't think he's made anything as good as those yet, which is surprising really because he's a really good actor, you'd think he'd make more good films.

Can't argue with this. It's disappointing because Craig is a talent, but there is nothing of his in the intervening years that comes close to Bond, unlike Brozzer.

TGWTDT is better than any Craig Bond film and Brosnan would be bloody lucky to of appeared in anything as good as that.

Right on! I love CR and SF and I think they are both among the very best movies of their respective years but TGWTDT is on an entirely different level. It's one of the 5 best movies since 2000 in my opinion.

I wouldn't put it has top tier Fincher but it's still a 5 star film for me and could only hope Bond could get to this level of quality.

Actually no, he doesn't. Not to the public anyway. I just have a hunch that something got ugly and it was either his way or the highway. You don't quit right before shooting unless something went really wrong, IMO. They'd sue his majestic butt for breach of contract if they could or if it wasn't mutual. So most likely some disagreement or contractual shit hit the fan. Nothing any party would like to see discussed in public.

I think @Germanlady is right. This all happened 3-4 days ago and since then there has really been no other news. My guess is that it was probably some lame contractual stuff and nothing too exciting.

Usually stuff like this goes down all the time in Hollywood and it really is no big deal. Mia Wasikowska was supposed to do a film called 'Carol' this year but she dropped out a few weeks before filming and was quickly replaced by Rooney Mara.

Had Daniel's departure been some big scandalous event it would have been all over the trade press. Last year when Lynne Ramsay left the film 'Jane got a Gun' under similar circumstances the whole story blew up due the nature of her departure.

I agree with Germanlady. People walk off projects for a number of reasons: issues with contract, script modified beyond recognition, creative differences... It can also happen during filming. Nothing to get worried about.

While I agree with Germanlady sentiments it will hurt his marketvalue and will make Craig look like the 007 actor with fat check who does not look too good in other projects.
A bit of a shame as I quite like Craig as an actor and would like to see more of him outside of 007land, where he has not impressed me so far.

No explanation needed. Actors leave projects for all sorts of reasons. And A-list actors leave plenty more productions behind than get reported about. It is indeed no big deal.

Well, we don't know why he quit. And it is not like it never happens. It may have been cavalier, but even then people leave movies during production sometimes. Better walk out than working when your heart is not into it.

I remember when Thandie was rumoured for the role of Vesper. It's good to see Ejiofor making a Nigerian movie, I know he's making many people proud right now. That B roll footage of him at the premiere has him looking incredibly suave. At this point I think it's safe to say he WILL be the villain in Bond 24.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about Cruz being in B24. I still don't know what I think of her. I loved her in 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona' and 'The Counselor.'

I get the feeling the Cruz stuff is just someone making a mistake from when the non-rumour surfaced last year.

Ejiofor, I'm sure will be the villain. Once again, we need to wait until November for the vital confirmation.

I'll go out and buy a hat then eat it if Cruz is cast as a Bond girl. Ever.

I don't remember Ejiofor in Children of Men, but he was quite memorable in Serenity. I would be happy to see him in the new film. As for Penelope Cruz- casting her as a Bond girl is a no-brainer. She's talented and beautiful, and with a Bond villain for a husband, does it not seem likely? Fingers crossed.

Agreed. I trust the latest rumors and according to them one of the actresses will be Scandinavian and the other one British. Cruz is Spanish.
