Perhaps Hoytema is the force behind them trying to film something (anything) there, even though they've moved beyond the original plan? Interesting to see what happens.
But let us not speak as though these are facts. An Australian film-maker not tied in to the Bond franchise is giving us these location rumors, and Hoytema is all but 'source-speculation' at this point. I don't want anyone confused. Some of us remember what happened last time..
And yes, I've amended the title to make it seem less than 100%.
Good heavens, by the time fall rolls around I really want some official news, EON!
Compared to the nothing we were getting earlier this year, I'm currently having a blast. I think I've had to update the thread 3 times in the past 2 days!
They would never announce the cinematographer, it would be the cinematographer telling us, and spilling the beans that they're doing the film and you don't do that unless you are Roger Deakins. Hoytema may talk soon enough.
The official word, like with most things, will come in the press release announcing the film in December.
He will also be getting a lot of coverage with the release of Interstellar in November and likely on into the Oscar season. I'm sure he'll spill the beans as it would give Interstellar and Bond both a lot of press. I'm sure his work on Nolan's film with at least have him nominated come awards time. Good for Bond if he's attached, they'll want to get that out there.
So what will EON announce for sure?

Here's a theory: P&W added a skichase in the snowy environment, and there are no slopes on Svalbard. Plenty in Austria.
But Austria instead of Svalbard? So we have another case of doubling, I guess? Somewhere with snow, but no visible landmarks. It could actually be anywhere, but this looks like a nice villains lair on Svalbard, though:
That the just made me giddy like a school girl in irrational Bond fandom. So Bond like. *Must. Not. Get. Hopes. Up.*
And the source in the article does say Austrian Alps. Mountains. Excitement. Joy. Squeal.
Doing some research, it is apparently the Administration Building for The Governor of Svalbard (the Island). The Island seems to be research-oriented. NASA has an outpost there. So let's see..
*If it doubles for Austria*, We have what could be a cool villain lair, which is a government building, in *maybe Austria*, where Quantum has been known to meet, on an Island that is based around geological research, after the feature Quantum of Solace's plot was based around Quantum manipulating the geology of a country for political and financial gain, and the main villain was a geologist. A movie that just so happened to have the same writers that were just brought back on Bond 24 to bring a plot that is 'substantially different' than the original draft.
That is 100% speculation and I'm sorry.
I've moved this discussion into another thread: http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/9325/making-connections-why-quantum-could-feature-in-bond-24#latest
Well, the plot is the first thing I thought of when I first heard about all this but admittedly, aside for Star Trek Nemesis, which didn't have the best of plots, I don't know what other films Logan has written. So, I just presumed that because Logan is such an established Hollywood screenwriter that he would have had a talent for crafting good plots for some reason so I wondered if it was other aspects of the script they changed. They haven't mentioned that they have added more action set pieces which is a good sign but I wouldn't be surprised if they have, knowing them.
Yeah, I was hoping for Scandinavia.
You know, all these girls who have auditioned for Bond girl roles all look just pretty average or slightly above average to me. Still, it's the acting that is the most important obviously.
Cast and Crew are announced as one, together.
Problem with the island is that Austria is a landlocked country. I am no expert, but I could see more Austria featured as Scandinavia than the other way round (even though Austria being a landlocked country, I doubt it could look convincingly like a place so connected to the sea). But I think if either are used, they should be as themselves.
Speculative maybe, but my wish of seeing an Austrian castle seems a bit less of a long shot now.
Nemesis was maybe his worst movie, with a ridiculous plot. Some of the dialogues however were really good, far superior to the whole. Even Logan's maybe most reknown movie, Gladiator, has a rather simplistic plot, with its good shares of holes (and filled with historical inaccuracies). What salvage the movie are the dialogues and characters.
His work is great. High contrast, great visuals, and works well with low light. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Interstellar are his two biggest projects so far.

As I understand it, not all locations have been found in Austria. Fingers crossed to Norway.
Please see the article at The Norwegian James Bond Magazine also...

One can find huge mountains in many countries, but especially the Norwegian fjords are very unique.
This is a showreel from Western Norway Film Location:
