Don't forget Licence Revoked was changed well into production due to the studio getting market research feedback that large numbers of Americans, when asked, didn't know what "revoked" meant.
I remember the day we were told the title would be changed. No one on the actual production was very happy about it, but even Barbara an Michael could not sway the studio decision. I think the title change really messed up the planned - and quite inspired - marketing campaign - artwork/posters etc - they were preparing with Licence Revoked as the title.

U can see the planned poster campaign, very stylish artwork of a brooding Dalton, and teaser posters in last issue of Mi6 Confidential - if they have any copies left.

I'm still skeptical of Stoneshi. The tweet came yesterday at 5.15pm as I guess news could be forthcoming any second now......However, we shouldn't get our hopes up there is no indication that this news has anything to do with Bond 24. The only thing that does is StoneShi's comments. If he's right then 'Death Leaves An Echo' is a pretty great title.

No, I agree with you. There's just somethong about it that makes it feel... uninspired.
And that has never happened before. Will not happen in the future. And how do you know what the exact contract details are between MGM/Sony and Sony Pictures? Prove me if Sony/MGM really have that right.
I think this kind of vetos are really more vital when it comes down to picking an actor....or a new James Bond. Common sense between MGM/SONY and EON will always be present when choosing a title.
As per my Licence Revoked post earlier, studios and distribution/international sales companies are always debating a film's title (it is a hugely important decision) - and they can and will insist on a title change if they feel it won't market well, or it needs to be adjusted for certain markets. Example, The Avengers (huge studio pic) was called Avengers Assemble in the UK because of concerns the British audiences would mix it up with the cult 60's Brit tv show The Avengers.
Licence Revoked was changed just as post-production got underway.
